Good info here for sure but some other info needs to be said especially for a new mustang owner. As far as the under drive pulley system go. don't just go get the cheapest thing out there, steeda is the only company who has a rubber insert for vibration with is a must. a solid mount will in time ruin your oil pump. Also a good short throw like MGW dose wonders for the t-45 and the TR3650. I fulling built my motor, fully forged Manley internals, +.20 over bore, over size crank, Melling billit oil pump, ect my car is a 99 but I build a tr3650 and swapped it into mine. my compression is now 10.0:1 with factory PI heads and 9.6:1 with trick flow heads to be ready for the next step F.I. she dyno 277rwhp & 311 TQ after custom tune. 4.6L love forced induction even at factory internals the down side is the crank won't hold any more then 450 FWHP and even there it's a ticking time bomb. All in all nice video and car. just wanted to help the Mustang community a bit, sorry if I stepped on your toes by throwing my 2 sinces in.

Keith Alexander While I like your suggestions, I think taking a different approach to a 2v is a must since theses don't make any power lol. I would keep the intake stock. Trust me it's not really restrictive as much as you think, it's actually designed very well. If anything thing get rid of the paper filter and throw in an aftermarket filter. FBO are honestly a waste on a 2v. For people who aren't too savy on this generation mustang, you have to be more strategic with your mods. First things to do on a 2v is steeper gears for both manuel and automatic, and a good stall and shift kit for an auto. That'll definitely wake her up. Then suspension of course. Focus on unsprung weight, such as springs, sway bars, control arms and other suspension components as well as a good set of tires. Then for the exhaust, honestly chose a good brand of muffler of your chosing. What most people don't realize is that the factory exhaust is designed very well, including the exhaust manifolds. Even if American muscle.com says otherwise lol. But yeah my point being is to spend your money wisely when it comes to modding a new edge gt. Hope this really helps anybody

You're absolutely correct my dude lol I, myself, have an '04 GT I recently just bought a couple months ago. It's my 3rd SN95 and 2nd New Edge of the bunch and I suggest to others the same exact as you: these 2v motors really don't respond well to bolt ons. My engine bay is damn near stock.. I have a set of 3.73 gears waiting to be installed and all I've done to the car thus far is suspension work( new lower control arms, struts/shocks) and want to add some subframe connectors, which these whips desperately need. All I've done to my exhaust is cut off the rear cats and want to add some aftermarket mufflers(as u mentioned). I've already watched soo many people drops thousands of dollars on bolt ons for these cars to gain no more than 30-35 rwhp lol when you can save up a few racks and slap a good blower on the stock motor and really have some fun with it... btw, you're also spot on with the automatic tranny advice.. A J-Mod is mandatory on these things for them to shift well, even more so than a shift point/firmness tune off a handheld. A tranny oil cooler is a good idea also,, especially if you're going the high stall TC route(also not a bad mod at all; I have an Auto btw).

@@dicksteel91 As of now I sold my Gt and picked up a clean 2003 mach 1 with 116k miles for $8500! What a steal and what a big difference in power too. And as much as I want to drop thousands of $$$ it's still not even worth it honestly. The first owner(I'm the third) was building it as a drag car. Has 4.10 gears, upper control arms, subframe connectors, etc. I'm gonna still go the more smarter route by picking up where he left off. Now I can't decide between lowering springs or coilovers...? Know a good brand for under a grand? It still surprises me till this day that people still think it's a gt or even a v6 lmao. if u have had a chance to compare parts on a dyno, u would know the factory air tube is actually not restrictive, it the air box and filter . 3.73 gears are a lil better for street driving and 4.10s are more for drag racing. under drive pulleys are a waste of money, some testing wont show any gains and separating the crank damper from the crank throws off the engine balance, not good for main bearing life. colder plugs shouldnt be used unless u add force induction, adding lots of compression, or u r visually verify u need colder ones. a cold plug wont cool the engine and may lead to fouling your plugs. the intake manifold to look for would be with the aluminum cross over tube. not hating on your car, actually looks nice, but giving feed back on you mid list.
@twportre88095 жыл бұрын
Ok my dude you ... I totally respect you making this video and no shade but there's factors we need to correct and I've been a foxbody/SN95 driver since the 80's and this is the ONLY cars I drive. 1. It's not Trimik .. it's TREMEC... "Trim-Mick" 2. It's not Plenium ... It's PLENUM 3. Gears is probably THE ABSOLUTE SECOND THING you probably want to do with these SN95's and pretty much any car and yes, like you said it totally changes the speed game installed. 4. You can replace the Cold Air Intake first, that PLENUM will not make a difference right now getting started because the fact the air going in won't change, velocity will not change. You are however leaving room to grow. 5. The pulleys from 99-04 are ALL the same, there's no difference in them 6. If you are going to run it hard, you got HOTTER when N/a... COLDER when you start bringing boost. You go colder then you risk fouling your plugs. 7. These cars are capable of seeing 400hp at the wheels with better cams and intake. 8. Camshaft swaps depending on your kit can yield around 35-40hp.(These stock heads are more restrictive than a shy virgin) 9 Correct, these cars are more than capable in the low 12's with little work involved. low 11's if you snag a set of trickflow heads. 10. You can grab a Superchips handheld tuner for light tuning control of the car, turning off traction control PERMANENTLY, timing and some other light tuning abilities. 11. You missed one factor... your mid pipe. If you want that pure race car high pitch sound, X-Pipe(personal I feel these produce better powerbands) or an H-Pipe for that low farty 80's rumble . 12. Tires are a big factor. A set of Nitto 555r's or NT05's at least in the rear will give your car a damn good hook with the right pressures and heat. Those brands even hook in the rain depending on the road lol.
@CalebsCars4 жыл бұрын

My first mods with mustangs are good tires, subframe connectors, torque box reinforcements, a decent clutch, short shifter, and gears..none of these free up or add any power but will help utilize what power you already have and is a great foundation for more power later on..I guess it depends on where you live because if you pay more than $500 for parts and labor on a gear swap where I’m from you got ripped off..and to be fair the 12hp hp discrepancy on the Dorman was on a boosted car with big heads and cams..on a regular mild na car it’s more like 3-4 peak at best..it robs power but it’s mostly a placebo effect because it’s power you won’t feel...I’ll take the loss in power for the peace of mind that comes with an aluminum crossover (I am not endorsing the Dorman at all don’t take it that way 😂🤣)

The nice part is you can get good used motors all day long for under $600 out of crown vics 02 and up.The 4 valve is not a cheap motor to wear out.I really think these cars don't get the credit, i remember the old fox bodies that came with 215hp and you needed to swap the heads before you can even think about getting near 300hp at the rear wheels. I'm just barely under 300hp with just bolt on and cams with stock heads...not to bad for 4.6 liters.

I like the 2V given its in a light car, ran really good times 0-60 in 4.6 sec on the street and low to mid 12s in the 1/4. Plus it was super cheap to buy and add mods. My new Coyote GT costed alot just to buy the dam car not to mention every added mod is expensive as hell.
@Gladiatorguy1998 Жыл бұрын
@@keithalexander36 very true, the 2v was cheap to buy and cheap to mod. I got a great deal on my 04 Mach 1 and it was pretty cheap to mod as well.

@keithalexander367 жыл бұрын
+maxim x my tune is custom. Bama does not offer this tune basically.if your looking to use one of thier can tunes i would pick the premium race 92 obtain tune. My tune has all kind of wacky stuff done to it like 7k rev limiter although i shift around 6,500

i didnt know they had 92 i just bought a bama tuner and im starting to wonder how much of a gain ill really get with my restricted intake manifold
@keithalexander367 жыл бұрын
+maxim x the biggest gain your going to see with that bama tuner with either intake is going to happen by advancing the timing over stock. you may need to richen the mixture some at this point too

Safe down gear speed indicator. So i dont do a money shift. When i first started driving with 4:10 gears knowing what gear to downgear into in a pinch was a thoughtful process this helped a tons. Also my rev limiter was too high 7k for a time being so i had to have the line on the RPM because i keep hitting 7k in first gear on launches. My dyno tune has the rev limiter now set at 6500rpm. Shes good

Also do u have the back to back runs u mentioned so I can watch that also. Maybe that will make me a total believer. These dorman intakes are on many reputable sites. I find it hard to believe sooo many people would buy these and so many companies would sell these when they rob hp. Finally question do u know off an aftermarket company that makes a none plastic one that I could still bolt my bbk throttle body and plenum on. That is in a descent price range. I see most recommended cam upgrade while upgrading your intake manifold but lack of money would put a cam outta the question right now.thanks for any help buddy

Where have you seen that the dorman intake makes 12 less hp? I have an 02 with a Bassani O/F X pipe into flow master cat-back, a BBK 73mm throttle body&plenum, BBK underdrive pulleys, unfortunely a old ass superchips tuner (I know it came with the car) but better than not having a tune at all,3.90 gears, K&N typhoon CAI, NGK Irdium plugs, MSD coil on's, basically every bolt on that I know and bilstein b12 suspension AM staggered wheels and so on. But having watched your video I do have the dorman intake which I was unaware of until watching this. I plan on do some more work like shorties& new tuner, but has 153k on it and its smoking more than I like at the moment so I've put money away for what probably looks like new rings or somthing. But just wondering where you got the info on the dorman making that much less hp compared to the regular Ford PI intake. Thanks!
Just do a good google search on dorman vs PI intake. My brother was the first that informed me of this when I first bought this car and was complaining about power. After searching there was a few guys online that had a few back to back runs showing HP lose with the dorman. After I bought the PI and removed the Dorman I noticed the internal volume was much different between the two and the Ford PI had much cleaner runner design. You will notice a gain while not much it will make everything perform as it should. Plus you can sell your dorman on ebay when your done with it.

Fox Crush yeah you can add bolt ons all day and won't notice, but once you get that tune...... oh boy!!
@keithalexander368 жыл бұрын
I can agree with that. The stock tune is very weak. A buddy of mine has a 02 vert and he keep adding more and more bolt ons with stock tune and Nothing much to notice in gains.One of the problems with the stock tune is it is real friendly on the timing to allow the use of not just 87 octain but low quality 87 at that. Also the stock tune has a timing delay, this hurts performance anytime you have to reapply the throttle (like power shifting). The timing delay just makes the motor feel soggy. Thankfully just about every tune removes this and this is what people mostly feel when getting a tune even on a stock set-up

My 2000 GT (Borla Extreme Cat Back, K&N CAI, ) just jumped the timing chain. DOH Did I mention that the 4.6L 2V Ford is an "Interference motor". Meaning that when the timing chain jumps VERY BAD things happen. Only 90k miles on my DD, NOT a racecar by any means. I didn't read anything in the Ford service guide about needing a new chain/tensioners so soon. Oh well, this will give me a chance to upgrade everything.

I'd do 4.10s, 3.73 isn't much of a difference on the highway and not worth the money if you're doing it for performance. A good intake, exhaust and throttle body with tune will get you a solid 300 at the crank with 93 pump gas. These cars can crack 13 seconds if you got all that with good tires.

The ONLY things you want to change in search of HP is the Intake, exhaust, cams, and intake manifold.. Changing the PLENUM is a waste of money if you aren't going to go the route of forced induction.. Gearing is nice if you're building a track dedicated car but not really needed for a street car.. Other than that you can free up about 10hp by changing all of your fluids to Royal Purple but that is rather pricey.. Then other than that adding a really good tune will help give some noticable power gains.. Other than that you really don't need to do much else except for maybe suspension work to help get it to stick to the track a little better and launch a lot better
@keithalexander364 жыл бұрын
The stock plenum will not get you past 280rwhp. You right on a relatively stock motor the stock plenum is ok but in order to crank out 312rwhp as i am (old video btw) you will need to toss the oem plenum. We have found out C&L gives the most consistent performance on a NA motor. I tried 3 plenums and the stock is like a restrctor plate on a full built NA motor.

How are you able to run it with cams and those mods with the intake still being plastic where the antifreeze runs through,mine cracked after the first year I had it,used though,so like 100,000 miles,but it was on a96,I had to get the aluminum/plastic intake for the recall
@keithalexander367 жыл бұрын
this plastic intake is a P.I intake from a 2000 Windsor mustang. The P.I intake is a very good performing intake that has really good flow rates and can support roughly 350hp before becoming a bottle neck. personally i think the real bottle neck on a stocker is the plenum, TB, cats and the stock cam is a smogger.

Kody Johnson my first car was a V6 new edge, sold it after 4 months and got a GT. I've since done everything this guy has done (except my gears are 3.90, not 4.10). This car can definitely get you sideways if you're not careful. Respect the car and it will respect you. The good thing is that you have traction control. Leave that on and for the most part don't be an idiot and the car will be just fine. Also invest in some good tires. I can floor it in any gear with my tires and as long as the car is pointing straight there is no wheel spin.

Mine quit working too. Which I have an 04 GT manual. The 40th annivesary edition. I did research on it a while back but never fixed it because of the cost. Something about replacing an actual part under the hood so I never got around to it. A pressure switch/connector by the master cylinder brake fluid pump I think? That and there is another switch/connector located at the brake pedal. It could be a fuse but I read if the horn and cig lighter work then the fuse is fine because they are all tied in one. But dont quote me on any of this lol.

Great video just one question, why did you go stage 1 cam instead of stage 2? If I'm not mistaken you don't have to make modifications until you get stage 3 cams ( better valve springs etc.)....about to get started on my 99 mustang just wanted to know
@keithalexander367 жыл бұрын
the stage 1 cam will yield more power across a broader range if your keeping the stock heads. one thing i learned along time ago is bigger is not always better, its more about properly matching components. Ever see that guy with the chevy small block lumping like crazy at an idle but soon as he hits the gas all it does is make alot of noise? thats what happens when you over select a camshaft. the stage 1 cam is already pretty stout for such a small motor. Camshafts do make more power but really your camshaft choice should by where you want your power to be made. in this case my motor runs come on around 4500rpm and i shift at 6500rpm. good example is going with a stage 3 would put the cam way out of the working range of the stock heads and will just make the motor run soggy as a whole. On stock builds the stage 1 has been a proven cam. check out my other vids of it running...its ok for what it is. make sure on the Windsor motor you order cam gears, bolts and spacers.
