Love my 04 GT. I have owned cars that were a lot faster, and cars that were a lot more expensive. I’ve never owned a car that I’ve enjoyed driving more though. One of the best looking Mustangs of all time in my opinion, lots of variations, and they sound amazing.

Common issue I’ve found from experience is higher mileage 4.6 and 5.4 motors get chain slap. the chains stretch over the years. And can cause major timing issues if the chains jump timing and can cost you a motor. Chains guides and tensioners are important to check on motors over 100k miles. And also wanted to point out the IAC valve on the 99-01 cobras and mach ones are behind the throttle body on the back of the intake. I know that because I just had to replace mine so to idling issues in my 04. Mach 1

I mean all jokes aside it really wasn't that bad for its time especially in 1994 it was way better than the crappy camaro interior of 1994. I thought these looked badass back in the 90s they were very futuristic looking inside compared to other stuff from the same time or just before.

They are badass I had a bolt on 410 geared 97 back in the day. Quick car with a good driver behind the wheel. You are forged rods and pistons away from a reliably 700+ rwhp with a turbo that is stock heads cams crank and block. They're stout cars with alot of potential. I've seen guys do 500 wheel stock bottom with a turbo setup. With a good tune they will stay together.

I think when buying this several years ago I think they wanted to make it a cobra with all the extras that were done to GT. From Vortech super charger, Borla mufflers, Koni shocks, and etc. Your video was spot on I’ll be doing brakes as soon as I get vehicle bye the way rear brakes same problem. Thanks again this GT will be a warm weather vehicle weekend driver!

Great content! To add: My '99 with 315K has had two intake manifolds replaced. First, like you said was to go with the metal insert model. The second was to go with the race version that has separate gaskets. Now, the gasket needs to be replaced on the passenger side, as it's misfiring in chamber 5. I'll take plug out and find coolant on it. I'll clean it and the coil tip, then get another month before misfiring again. Only that chamber. So most likely ready for gasket replacement. Much cheaper than replacing the manifold like before, since the casket was part of the manifold in the original "full plastic" version. Next: Had to remove the instrument cluster panel and solder the odometer pins, since it would flash for a minute, then fade out. Tapping on the glass would make it come on, then fade back out. Make sure not to have solder connect the other pins! I did and it made the trip meter push button not turn on. Got that cleaned up. Finally, driver's side door sag. Partly my fault as my old ass would use it to help get out of the car. I use the floor rail now! Resolution was to add one washer on the bottom hinge. I also re-adjusted top hinge by loosening the 13 mm bolts (floor jack supporting door) and pull up on door then tighten. Closes smoothly again. Careful with closing the door when testing for adjustment. No need to damage the body!

Other than that has been very reliable so far.. knock on wood.. Only has 86k miles on it now ..

Funny, I just cleaned my IAC valve and it smoothed out the idle and put the idle RPM down to about 800 RPM's. I also changed the air filter and cleaned the sensor wire on the MAF, the RPM's are smooth at all speeds. And yes, change the oil religiously, the 4.6 loves new oil. You are right about the plugs and coil packs. I was running MSD coils with Bosch fine tip Iridium's. I'm now back to Motorcraft parts. If you want better performance out of your Mach stereo, get a decent head unit that has 3-5 Volt pre-outs. That really brings those woofers alive, and the rest of the system(mids and highs) are much more detailed. I put in a Duel DMCPA70BT, less than 200 clams. It won't play discs, but the USB is a better option anyways. I love music but I won't waste too much on a total system upgrade because, frankly, I love the sound of my Magnaflow catbacks more, and a top tier audio system would be corrupted by the catbacks.

Let me tell ya, the New Edge cars are vastly superior to the Fox. I've had pretty much every version of a fox you could ever want, starting way back in 1988 when I bought a used low mile 1985 GT, then a brand new 1989 GT, then a 1993 Cobra then a whole bunch of 'em(mostly to flip for profit) in the early 1990's thru the early 2000's. I've also had many SN95 cars, including Saleens and Cobras. I have spent many, many miles in both cars, including legit cross country trips from east coast to west coast...once in a 1997 GT and another time in a 1991 LX coupe...and I can tell you 100% that if you plan on driving your Mustang more than just on the weekends around your town...get a 1994-2004.

My GT has 186k miles, is bone stock except for Flowmaster mufflers(original ones rotted out unfortunately) and still runs great. Other than normal maintenance I have only needed to replace the driver side power window motor, one of the A/C lines and both front brake calipers. I'm still rolling on the original struts/shocks but they are definitely at the point I need to replace them.

I swapped in Accel step colder, didn’t gap them, and SR performance coil packs. 4K miles later still running strong and I drive this car spirited . I did a few 200+ miles trip, no issues at all, and AC blows cold. Mustangs are strong cars, I would never sell mine and can’t wait to start doing differential mods, cooling mods, then a Kenne Bell supercharger !

1 other thing to mention, if you live in the rust belt, check the framerail where the main subframe bolts connect though, that box and up to the strut tower is the only problem area for rust on these cars, the tire throws road grit and salt up into that section and it gets trapped in there, blast that junk out with an air line and spray it with por 15 or some tranny fluid or even bar and chain oil, other than that these cars are some of the best on the road at holding up to rust

I love my 04 GT. Loved it since the day I bought it in 06...until I hated it in 2017/2018 when things started going to pieces - typical plastic stuff. Intake, coolant tank, power steering reservoir, that kind of thing. So I did the RIGHT thing and decided to swap out the intake when it went with something aftermarket. Came across a Edlebrock Victor Jr. But the owner wanted to sell it as a kit with a P1SC. Great idea for a car with 100+k miles on it. And with crappy injectors (didn't know when I bought them), that pretty much spelled the demise of the original motor...and the forged motor I bought shortly after that. But then this last year, things started changing. I was going to rebuild the 2v motor with new pistons, better injectors, etc., when a low mileage older AED built Terminator motor came to me minus the blower. Put a Sullivan intake on it, got 480 wheel when the P1SC that I had originally bought decided to leave the chat. So I upgraded to a D1X. Now at around 540 wheel. And in full race trim now, but still street legal. Best mod for the car, if you're not on a budget? A forged 4v engine and a supercharger. The New Edge is a little heavier than it's predecessor, but still a light car in comparison to the newer Mustangs by a lot. And I can tell you with the mods I've made, on Hoosier D.O.T. drag radials, my car is EASILY capable of doing a 10 second pass or very low 7s in the 8th. Cockpit on these is a little cramped for someone over 6'. With the stock seats with a helmet on, be prepared to be laid out like you're in a lambo just to get your noggin to clear the roof. And with stock suspension, they're reasonably comfortable and capable on the road. Aftermarket suspension...she gets a little more like a buckboard, but she corners well. Another issue right out of the gate with the New Edge that I've found is that, even with the stock suspension, the geometry on the front sucks with the McPherson strut suspension. In order to corner decently, Ford laid in a hefty amount of negative camber. They DON'T like rutted roads and they are ABUSIVE to front tires. Even all the aftermarket suspension kits like the stuff from Maximum Motorsports continue to use that configuration. The only option beyond that is $$$$ and comes from Griggs, that uses a LSA configuration that has better geometry. But for a low budget car, they can be a ton of fun in factory trim and reasonably easy to mod. Pretty easy with just long tube headers, better exhaust and larger throttle body to make pretty good horsepower to the wheels. Ford rated them at 260 at the crank. When I was still running the 2v with those mods and a good tune, I made 268 horsepower and 305 ft/lbs of torque. That's plenty to get you in trouble, trust me. ;) Like I said - I have always loved my car...until I hated it. Now I love it again...and I'm gonna drive it like I hate it. :D

My Nissan that I financed was a nightmare so I just had to buy something with cash. Bought a 2003 automatic with 150k miles for 2200 bucks and it's my FAVORITE care I've ever owned... Two years in and NO issues whatsoever. Ummm.. Minus it driving in winter, but I knew what I was getting into. Plus an aftermarket stereo and minimal rust (in Michigan). It's so fun to drive; fuckin love this car.

Also, to add on the winter comment, as I was watching your video about the calipers. Last winter, my car got stuck and I had to get it towed. Upon arrival to the auto-shop, my wheels were LITERALLY ON FIRE, and the rotors were beat red. Me and the tow dude had to throw snow on it for like 5 minutes straight, as it was sizzling. I assumed shit locked up naturally when I was aggressively trying to get unstuck, and maybe the freezing weather like froze the calipers.

good advice, just one question, whats your major grudge with aftermarket parts, i have always had better luck with aftermarket parts but it seem like you have had a different experience, just curious, but great advice.

4.6 2v, it's in my wifes explorer, it's in my stang. This engine sounds like a fucking freight train straight piped i love it. The engine is basically indestructible, cheap to repair, SIMPLE and a huge amount of working room, i've had the whole timing chain replaced by just removing the radiator fan. I was able to get my impact down there to get the harmonic balance off.

One of the worst issues on this cars is sparkplug blowing out. Torqued to 13ft/lbs from OEM with 3 threads... I torque it to 20-22 ft/lbs.

I had a V6 convertible 2003 but my father suffered a stroke and gave me his beautiful 99 GT all original. I have started customizing it on my channel. Any recommendations on the best way to lower it and still have good performance and a nice ride?

I had no clue the Mach 1000 system was a thing. I'm jealous though because I got a Bullitt, I'd want one just for the aesthetic let alone the better audio.
