For other people that are wondering why the interfaces that are trunked are not showing up while doing "show VLAN brief". "show VLAN brief" only shows ports that are access-ports. So if access mode hasn't been turned on, it will not appear in the list of ports. Great videos Keith. Thanks for creating them and the Labs.

Hi Keith, I'm taking a CCNA course and I'm following your videos along as well. I have watched this video on VLAN and practiced but I'm confused with something I have noticed. My scenario is: I have noticed on SW1 we created a VLAN 10 on port Fa 0/1 but not on port Fa 0/2, on SW3 we created a VLAN 10 on port Fa 0/2 but not on port Fa 0/1, on SW2 we created a VLAN 10 but did not assign any ports. My question is: Why did we not create the VLAN 10 on the other ports that are connecting the devices and why did we not assign any ports on SW2 to VLAN 10 yet the Laptop was able to ping the server?? Please help, I'm confused. NOTE: Anyone on this channel who can help me understand, please help.

Hi. I was interested on understanding why, without making any config on the lab, just fresh open, the first time you turn on the laptop it gets a link-local IP address because of a failed DHCP attempt but if you turn off the laptop and turn on again it never gets an IP. And more interested on understanding why with a fresh opened lab, no changes, I power on the laptop and then I do a power cycle devices (Alt+S), then the laptop gets IP from the DHCP server and laptop is able to reach server, though laptop is supposed to be on VLAN 1, server on VLAN 10 and SW1, SW2 have no VLAN10. On this stage, I can reboot the laptop and always gets the IP though it takes one or two minutes to obtain it, sometimes after showing a link-local IP address before obtaining the IP from DHCP. Thanks.
@manfersite3 жыл бұрын
I found why. When the lab is fresh opened SW1 Fa 0/1 (ap/laptop link) is in VLAN 1 and SW3 Fa 0/2 (server link) is in VLAN 10 and they can't reach each other. But when I power cycle the devices SW3 loses VLAN configuration on Fa 0/2 so both laptop and server are on VLAN 1.

@KeithBarker4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the question Josiah Abernathy. If you are at the beginning of your CCNA studies, you may want to hold off on the labs until you have gone through some of the CLI commands in the book or video series you are studying. These would include: enable configure terminal and configuration of interfaces and routing protocols. Just take one step at a time, as you come across these commands in your study material, and use PT for free to practice them.

Thank you Keith great an informative lab. Similar to some people I cannot see trunking on any of the switches so I just setup the ports of each switch to VLAN 10, another problem is the password of the Wifi AP was set to TKIP instead of AES. One more problem I faced and still facing is that the server DHCP pool handing out IP addresses starting from 10.67.83.32 ! (which happens to be within its own address .. ). If I try to create another serverPool1 and assign start of IP address to 10.67.83.40, it would let me, but it won't allow me to remove the original serverPool for some reason. But hey, solving problems is half the fun (& learning)! FYI, I'm using the latest PT 7.3.0. THANKS AGAIN.

That was fun! One question: At one point I had only vlan 10 allowed on the switches (excluding vlan 1), and the ping didn't work. Why is that? If the native vlan is vlan 1, doesn't it get access to all communication, so to speak?

I checked and compared configs of all 3 switches with yours and found that in my case in sw-1 and sw-3 additional configs are coming for gigaEthernet 0/2(sw3) and 0/1(sw-1). I found that when I do any config for fastEthernet 0/1 or 0/2, same configs are being copied on gigaEthernet as well. Could this be the reason for AP not able to reach server/switches?
