I work on a single timeline until it lags my computer and by then I'm sick of the tones and basic mix of the whole thing and I take what I've learned and move to a new one. Once there I re-imagine what I'm doing and where I want to go from there and the process starts all over again. It gives each group of songs a specific mood and keeps me from always trying to achieve the same sound session to session. Mind you I'm a complete amateur but it works for me better than other approaches because it makes me make decisions and finalize things. Lovin' this return of recent, keep it up Man and thanks. :)

Youre been huge inspiration in my life Keith. Youre pretty much the reason i got the courage to get into recording. Arrival had huge influence on me and the way i continue to write music to this day. So i just wanted to thank you for everything youve contributed to the metal world. Congrats on your mad success, you deserve it.

YES to building albums in one session (Cubase for us). And wow does it crush the PC running that many tracks in a single project! Thanks for the comparison between mic'd cab vs profiles/plugins. Digital has come a long way, but you're right with the heavy mutes. Nothing sounds as good as a live 5150. Your content is on point, man. The format of this episode is perfect. Please keep it up!

Just dropping into say that I'm a huge fan of your tones and riffing. One of the first videos I ever watched from you was the Rhodes Colossus amp, using the Randall iso cab. The tone in that vid got me super psyched about finding my own sound and working on my clarity when playing. It's awesome to see that you're still using iso cabs these days. also, it goes to show that we don't always need a hundred little EQ notches to get a great tone. Of course EQ can be very helpful, but it's not always needed in vast quantities. Peace and keep doing great things :)

I look forward to these every week, and I honestly don't know how you can improve on these much more because you already do such a fantastic job with the sound, lighting, camera work, etc. Question: do you usually start with a chord progression, melody, or maybe a groove/beat when writing?

Love those vids man! Keep em comin'! My question is: Do you think that tone is important in growing as a musician? Like, having a tone that you like inspires you to keep going and practice or you should just do with what you have until you become really good and then forge your tone, like it's a detail? Thx man
@jfo30004 жыл бұрын
Not Keith here, sorry. But I believe you answered your own question with the first part of your question. But don't commit all of your time looking for the sound and neglect your playing and writing, which is way easy to do with all the free plug-ins out there. To make it quick Id get the gear that the artists I like use, and start from there. I settled on the Ninja for a free rhythm amp tone, for now, until I decide which Neural to get, but no hurry there.
@gabrielcarpenter67704 жыл бұрын

I wouldn’t mind seeing what settings you used on the Kemper boost. Is the profile the same 5150 that was released years ago? Just now has the different boost. That Decapitated riff is super awesome and sounds crushing with that profile. Always a pleasure watching your channel🤘

Hey Keith! I really appreciate the comparison of the 5150, Kemper and all the plugins. That really helped. I've been playing for over a decade but recently started doing all the recording myself. I really love these videos man! I honestly prefer hearing your guitar tracks isolated than hearing them in the mix. Just something about the subtle nuances of your playing and that nasty... Really glad to have found this channel since Ola changed the format of his Sunday show. Still like ola but more interested in more Q&a stuff. Plus your riffs are killer.
@Eggy-bp6pj4 жыл бұрын
I've got a couple questions. I'd be interested to see how you go about dialing in a tone from an amp, could you please show us how you go about making a killer tone from square one, i.e. everything at zero, and see how you balance everything then boost it (presuming you use a boost) Second question, as a somewhat straight edge guy myself (very rarely drink, don't smoke, never touched drugs) I'm interested in how weed is involved with your whole music process, is it a very big important part for you, or do you just enjoy it and find it helps your creative abilities? Stay awesome mate! Cheers, from Australia

I feel like you’re the guy to ask this question to since you have a good knowledge on gear as well as computers. If you had to put together a “budget” setup for a bedroom guitarist that is new to plugins that would include a laptop, interface & whatever else is needed what would you choose? Love the content & hope you’re staying safe during all the madness out there!

Hi Keith! I have been following you for a long time bro and am a big fan of what you do! It was really cool learning that the Randall Isocab was a big part of your sound because I use one too! My question for you is this.... Did you have to make any modifications to yours in order to ensure things didn't rattle at high volumes? Did you add extra insulation or anything like that? I have noticed that it is pretty common amongst people who use them to do this. Mine is stock though currently. What do you recommend doing and also did you find that it was a bit difficult to keep the low end in check with the Isocab? Thanks in advance bro! Keep killing it man!!!
