the problem is the used market for Chrysler is so cheap that people take a chance, and they pay dearly for that, another vehicle you shouldn't buy is Nissan .

I would not categorize this as a rant, but an observation. You make a great point, why would a corporation make it difficult to repair their product. Unless profit is a motivation. They do have a popular line of cars and trucks. You are correct about Toyota they do take care of their customers. The "Right to repair" you mention, I think everyone has the choice to take their vehicle to whoever they want or repair it themself. I saw something a few years back on 20/20 or some other program about Jonh Deer not letting farmers access software to be able to diagnose their tractor. Great video, their a half a second delay on your audio. It's almost like watching an old martial arts movie. 👍

I had a second hand 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee V6 diesel had the N23 recall, what a fiasco, I was fortunate after reading a lot about it on some Jeep forums and good private mechanic I did not need to have the FDCM reflash done, the shift motor for the transfer case was never lube'd from day one & the module sensed to higher current draw on the shift motor, so no shift, mean while FCA was trying to fix this with a reflash, go figure. Others had different problems with the FDCM & shift motor and FCA was trying to fix with the reflash that did not work. My first and last Jeep ever!

I'm a DYI and I overhauled my 1997 DGC (I bought CAD700 with 270k km.) when it stayed to 2nd gear (limp mode). I found out that the splines of 2-4 hub are all gone due to hard constant banging (aka hard 4-2 downshift). After the overhaul the symptoms is still there in spite of almost all parts replaced with new ones. Now I know that the problem is the TCM. You just validate my experience that these Dodge Chrysler cars have bad computer modules. Now I want to learn module flashing / programming. I'm now waiting for the Toyota RAV XLE I ordered.

I haven't noticed recently but for years the taxicab companies in my city would buy used Chysler minivans from auctions that had 100k miles on them for a couple thousand dollars and run them typically up to 450,000 miles befoe the engines died.

Looks like there will be plenty of work with the electric cars in the future, you miss the CAFE standards hijinx, but they'll find something else to break. I mean around ~2002 you had various PSA products (Europe) where the blinker would stay on in one direction, how did that ever get shipped? Then there is Tesla currently where it's become incredibly hard to get the tools you need. And increasing amount of actual encryption means it becomes neigh impossible to just replace something, it's not just a VIN check anymore (say for a Nissan Leaf battery replacement).

Chrysler electronics was light years of ahead of everybody else when they made their own. Huntsville electronics division was in a class by itself, first electronic voltage regulator, first electronic ignition, first in dash computer/display, first computer controlled ignition and fueling, etc. Then Mercedes bought them in 1998, and they were forced to sell off everything in the name of cost savings. Mechanically, they are still state-of-the-art. 840 HP Hemi, emissions legal! Pentstar v6 is the class leader.

Now we need to GM and Ford rant, lol. All those “fees” will be coming to them also they are both implementing “SGM” too. I specialize in rebuilding transmissions and see far more GM transmissions then FCA 6L80/6T70 are shit piles. Now the 62TE and the 65/66/68RFE, definitely have their issues too. Engine wise don’t deal much with internals but GM hasn’t had a good run either, timing chains, bad rings/pistons oil consumption ect.... Ford they did pretty good with the 6R60/80 and their version the 6F50 (6T70E) does hold up very well I can’t chime in much with Fords later model engines but the early 4.6/5.4 they were a joke.
@williamwhite97673 жыл бұрын
The 4.6 and 5.4 two valve engines are some of the best engines ever built. Yeah, they would sometimes spit spark plugs if you didn't tighten them enough and the Ford torque spec was too low, but many of them go over 300k miles. My 2000 5.4 went 170k miles reliably before I lost track of it. My current 2002 5.4 has 165k on it without spitting a plug. Google "million mile van" sometimes and read about one that went 1,270,000 miles.

great content. I came to the conclusion myself , many dealers do not have a well rounded diagnosticians. Reasons, do not want to deal with issues for hours and get paid 1 hour. pay is not enough. Techs do not want spend in the effort to educate themselves, when can make the same amount of money, doing repetitive work. A friend took his Nissan rogue, paid 200 , they said , did not find nothing. They could look closer, 200 more and a week , they were to busy. This industry it's going down. dealers and independent shops do not invest in new techs, everybody needs training, dealers just want to make money, not solve problems.

You're very passionate about your work and this subject. You have the skill and experience to back up your data too. I bought a 1997 Jeep that we kept for 10 years and had zero issues. Fast forward and our 2005 Dodge Magnum we kept for 7 years had one failure of the EGR valve. I now own a 1987 Jeep and a 2019 Chrysler 300. So far it has been a trouble free car. But I hear you and I'm paying attention. I guess I have an advantage in the maintenance area because I can do most of it myself. But yes, the diagnostic aspect scares me. I own a 2005 Dodge Magnum with the 5.7L Hemi bought new and it has been more reliable than the 95 Mark VIII Lincoln that it replaced. I loved the Mark and I love the Magnum for it's power, handling, and comfort. Yeah, I know some of those 03 to 08 Hemis drop valve seats but the 4.6 DOHC Lincoln engines broke valve springs occasionally too. There ain't no perfect cars. Great video. I think you will find that it's less Chrysler but knowledge and philosophy of a producer. A person can sit with a paper and pencil and write a note. Or a person can sit at a purchased computer running a silicon based computer utilizing memory and electric. They both end with similar results. I do know that I will never own a vehicle without a transmission stick for fluid checking. AMC failed because they were the worst parts pickers to create a car. In the 1970's life was more mechanical (physical) now it's more electrical or Technical as in a automotive technician. Just saying.
