Those three minutes right there in the beginning of the video are SO important. I've struggled with my skin since I was a teenager and people would come up to me with the CRAZIEST advice, completely unsolicited at the most random times, which was so disrespectful and I'd have to go OFF. Like why are you telling me to wash my face with dish soap? To use lemon and toothpaste? Other people would make remarks about my higiene (you probably don't wash your face, etc) and straight up blame me for my skin's condition. It's crazy.

I didn’t have acne but I definitely understand. I had terrible sebhorreic dermatitis on my face for almost 10 years: spots, crusts, flaking, oozing, etc. It was brutally painful and ugly. One derm very rudely told me it was the worst she’d ever seen. The pain of having a disfiguring condition on your FACE that you cannot hide or control is, like you said, something others will never understand. What sucks is after my seb derm finally cleared after 10 years of struggle - I immediately developed Melasma and have had that ever since. My heart goes out to everyone struggling with their skin. If I had a dollar for every time some idiot asked what was wrong with me, or gave stupid unsolicited advice, or acted like they were scared what I had was contagious, or said ‘you have something on your face’, I’d be able to buy a car, no joke. I adore Keke for coming out about her skin and sharing awareness! The fact that she still looked goddess-tier beautiful even with serious skin problems, it gives important perspective that our ‘faults’ don’t need to hold us back.

Side effects I can handle....such as dry lips, backache, headache, joint pains, drowsiness. I'm surprised 😮 Accutane didn't work on you Keke. One thing I’ve noticed is that men don’t break out as badly as women do and I think a lot of it has to do with the hormones and the changes that women have to deal with. I also feel like a skin routine really shouldn’t need too many skin care products. I feel like the less the better.

It took me FOREVER to finally get the PCOS diagnosis and to finally know where to start with healing my skin. Doctors will prescribe everything in the book rather than helping you understand what is actually happening. It really is a journey. I’m so happy to see this transparency… I hid behind Snapchat filters and make up for the first year before actually managing it properly. I’m not even going to get into the unsolicited skin care advice from people who just didn’t understand it. “Use proactiv it’s the only thing that works for me”- but of course you didn’t ask and didn’t know I’ve tried every new kit from proactiv and it didn’t work for MY SKIN…

Thanks for sharing your journey Keke. I am in my 50s now and have suffered with acne since elementary. I still have breakouts that leave dark spots. Over the years I too have found what works and what doesn't and found for ME.. that black dermatologist was best suitable for my skin treatments because he understood how certain products react to our skin/melanin skin and what dries out my skin and how sun still damages our skin as well. Black folk DO NEED SUNSCREEN!! I found that products with benzoyl peroxide made my dark spots worse vs using products with salicylic acid. Also, hot water is not good for our skin.. use warm to cold water is best. Not to use rough and hard cleansing routines on our skin..it makes it worse.. YOU CANT WASH ACNE AWAY,, SO DONT ABUSE YOUR FACE. 😊Also, for years I used Rx compounds with hydroquinone, 3-6%, to lighten my dark spots that as recently as 2 yrs ago, I feel has contributed to me having cataracts due to hydroquinone is a STEROID. So be very careful if using a form of hydroquinone near your eyes or only spot treat. Use with caution. Retina dried my skin out so much I had to discontinue that years ago. I took so many meds by mouth for years until I got tired.. I refused Accutane due to all the SERIOUS MENTAL HEALTH SIDE EFFECTS.. So, you're so right..caring for acne is such a stressful nd continuous journey. Thanks for sharing.🥰🙏

Thanks for sharing Keke! My skincare holy grail I use religiously is turmeric face mask. This mask Truly helps with shrinking pore size, reducing inflammation and evening out skin tone! Highly recommend!

As someone with extremely sensitive skin I cringed at the Noxzema and seabreeze but girl if it works for you then keep using it! Cetaphil also has a clay mask that does wonders for oily skin you should try it. I’ve been a fan of yours since my teens and am just now finding your youtube channel. Love that you are genuine and speak from your heart!

I love that cetaphil mask ! I stock up on it because it’s such a gentle mask for someone with sensitive skin
@BbGun-lw5vi3 жыл бұрын
You’re right. The Noxzema and Seabreeze work in the short term but do way more harm long term. They’re full of terribly irritating ingredients. Alcohol, menthol, eucalyptus, etc. They damage the skin barrier which means your skin is no longer protected and it’s easier for bacteria to get in. Damaging the skin barrier often results in acne. Dr. Sam’s videos on the skin barrier are awesome She’s a dermatologist. Or Dr. Idriss.

I have PCOS and was diagnosed around 13-14 yrs old. I was put on birth control immediately after my diagnosis. It’s been 10 yrs and I stopped taking birth control a few months back. My acne came back FULL FORCE. Thank you for being so transparent with your PCOS. Even though we know we’re not alone, videos like this make us FEEL less alone. Definitely going to try these products and see if I have any luck with them. Thank you. 💛

The new Aveeno oat cleaner line is God sent! Also, what helped me tremendously on its own, is not using towels. Use paper towels instead. Good luck on your skincare journey!

I really, really love this video because acne is (smh omg)so complex and individualise. As I am getting older, I deal with it much better and also understand where I am in my life emotionally , mentally and physically. I didn't start getting acne until my mid 20s and it was absolutely horrid. I have so many photos of my skin at it's worse and also can pinpoint what I was going through at those moments. Hence why I'm getting a nutrition certification and always focused on my overall personal growth and healing. I had to also learn to have grace with myself and stop beating up myself so much because it became so much more than just the acne on the surface.

I've been searching on Instagram, Facebook and Amazon for the best products and haven't found any darn thing. Just as you said what works for others doesn't work for you. I've tried just about everything and had damaged my skin tremendously. Most if the products are advertised is to expensive and it may not work for me. I'm a dark skin with dark spots on my left cheek and in grown hairs under my chin. My sister advised my to use noxzema and it helped out a lot. Thank you so much for showing your routine. You are so beautiful inside and out. Love you Keke Palmer. I practically use the same products you use. I will continue to use my same products.

I always had hormonal acne issues.. and When I was pregnant I was one of those unlucky gals whose face, chest and back break out due to the hormonal change. In the end the only thing that worked was African black soap and Nivea creme after I washed. Those two basic things saved me. Don't know if it'll work for everybody but those two things are doing the lords work right now lol.

Yes, I feel like acne face doesn't require someone to use alot of products at one time. Black soap or Dettol "herbal " soap and for moisturizer or oil I used "Arimis" and with no makeup and the discolouration or pigmentation was cleared but you can scrub your face once in a while. I would wash my face in the morning with Dettol herbal soap and apply Arimis then before I sleep I would wash my face with Dettol herbal soap again and sleep like that without applying anything. It worked for me

Yes diet is the #1 cause of cystic acne bc diet affects the hormones. I had to cut out sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many foods including dairy and gluten. I also take an allergy pill, vitamin d, and probiotic everyday. Allergy pill can help w skin when you have allergies caused by the environment (dust pollen etc) which causes inflammation. Vitamin d deficiency can cause dark marks and slow healing and depression. Probiotic helps balance gut health. Also a simple consistent skincare routine is needed. I almost passed out when you said noxema bc that tore my skin up back in the day but happy it works for you!!

thank you for bringing awareness to many people that acne is normal. As a person who deals with acne it has been hard to accept acne and treat it but i will get there. i just wish more people would be educated about acne instead of criticizing people for it. ❤

“I know what’s been done when it’s not working” exactly. Everybody’s journey is individual, only unsolicited general advice I’d give to anyone about anything is start with an elimination period. Assess yourself after a period of baseline non problematic /inflammatory/ stressful etc so just being with loved ones, a bland diet, etc. then slowly reintroduce your excesses preferably one by one to see what’s the trigger, maybe even try groupings to see if it is a compounding issue. I feel methodical approach with this method can make it easier to keep track, identify and avoid repetition of same mistakes

When you first shared your journey, it honestly made me stop & think because I couldn't figure out why I would have such painful breakouts. I'm 33 with five kids so PCOS never crossed my mind. Then I started having other PCOS symptoms so I went to the gyno, had some test & an ultrasound done & sure enough PCOS. I'm still trying to figure out my skincare routine. I oil cleanse and then go in with the Cetaphil and I've seen a difference. Still a work in progress tho 🤗
