I think a video-glossary of nail terms would be amazing. I’m very new to this, and loving it more & more, but don’t always understand the differences (beyond the often crazy, pun-like names) of the polishes/lacquers/gellies/gels/….. 😁 You explain everything so well & seem very genuine in wanting to teach us. I don't even know what to say about how much street cred you just got as a nail polish expert with this video. I finally ventured into holos with Holo Taco's Scattered, and I use it often, but it was hard to choose because there are so many variations. This is really helpful to see them all together. I'm loving the idea of Starrily Stars on black. Very subtle. Today I did a french tip with Essie Lighten the Mood and topped it with Zoya's Bonnie (that I bought because of your swatching). It's all very sparkly, pinky rose gold!

it’s the first holo topcoat i ever got! plus it feels like anytime i use it over my manicure it lasts a lot longer. only issue was the smell, but now that i’m more used to nail polish smell it doesn’t bother me so much anymore lol

oh wow! i was not at all expecting a Pop-arazzi polish to show up. i was able to get a few of their full-coverage linear holos before i think they discontinued that line. for $3-4 for a huge bottle, they give me enough rainbow. my linear holo topper is from Maniology, and it’s super packed and greys out the base, so i like that i can see other options (KBShimmer may be my go-to next). my scattered/glitter holo is Orly’s Shine on Crazy Diamond

WOW! That's a stellar effort Kelli! *thunderous applause* I will say that I find that I personally prefer a flakie if I want a slightly more dense holo effect and defer to a more sparse scattered holo if I want to go over the top of my nail art. That way I can still see what's happening underneath without covering it too much, if that makes sense. (i.e. a FUN Lacquer or Holo Taco flakie with no nail art vs. a Holo Taco Scattered or Starrily's Stars with nail art). 💅🌈✨💖

I dont feel like "the wizard" is less holographic, actually i feel like its more holo in a special way - it shows so cool holo even over white! No other holo topper does this. Its very mysterious in my opinion, i love it and i am so glad i bought it even if I have a bunch of holo toppers already ^^

This was so cool. I usually go for one type of each. I've been curious about colored linear holo between brands. Like if I want to buy a teal or a magenta linear holo, which brand will have the most holo flare? Do some have finer or coarser linear pigments? Which polishes are more packed with pigment? Are some to the point where they look greyish indoors? I'd love to see that kind of comparison. 🙂

This is an incredibly helpful video! I love the explanations for each category and how you've lined it all up in an easy to understand way. It does make me wonder if there are more shimmer or iridescent toppers? For those of us who want little pops of color. I don't mean glitter necessarily, I'm thinking of that kind of fleck style like in the color Smokey Quartz from Sally Hansen's Pure line. It's got these little flecks of pink and purple in it. Or the Insta-Dri color Cosmic Blue uses them, as well as a couple of the colors from the ILNP NYE collection. But those are more opaque, and what I'm interested in would be topper versions of those. Does anyone know if there are some options for that?

OK. I LOVE THIS VIDEO SO MUCH!!!! I have said this before but I maintain that you are a nail polish scientist. Your approach to observing and categorizing is so classically scientific. You should definitely try looking at them under the microscope. Also, have you ever tried Emily de Molly? That brand has the most insane holo toppers-huge circles, teensy bars, moons and stars…they’re crazy. China Glaze does have a scattered holo called “Fairy Dust” but I think it’s cut with silver as well. Also, LA Colors has a topper called Shimmer Mist that has MASSIVE holo flakies. It’s cut with some silver but considering that it’s $2 I am OK with that lol.

When Prism Break came out by KBShimmer, I put that on everything! It was my first holo topper and I love it so much! I also love Intergalactic from your Starrily collab. It's an in your face holo topper and it's gorgeous. I have duplicates of both of those polishes. I would definitely love to see a video comparing different brands red holos, blue holos, etc. I'll do swatches of a certain color holo from different brands to see what shade I'm in the mood for or if it fits in with the other colors I'll be using.

I just got Holo Taco flakie through the Rewards for my birthday. It’s quite nice. The crushed holo in their new coffee-inspired line is quite unique and even prettier imo; I’d love it in a topper. But it seems very similar to A England “The Wizard” so maybe I’ll look into them in the meantime once I run out of flakie; unless Holo Taco releases a crushed topper first!

KBShimmer is my favorite linear taco, along with Maniology Holo Prism top coat. Another two great ones are ILNP My Private Rainbow X and My Private Rainbow Scattered & Linear. ILNP is very underrated, they make amazing polishes. (I know you couldn’t possibly swatch every indie holo top coat, I can’t imagine how long that video would be 😊)

@@KelliMarissa I have sooo many! I got into nail art because of holo top coats and I’ve collected quite a few. Not sure how many, but definitely in the double digits! A couple others you might want to look into are Chirality, Blackheart (Hot Topic), Color Club & Pacifica (I’m not sure of the actual polish names). The latter two of those are among the “graying” holo top coats. They’re still gorgeous though. Btw, it’s a total “squee!” moment for me bc you replied to my comment! You are my favorite nail vlogger and the only one I follow. You are so talented and you’ve taught me so much. 🥰😘

I was wondering why I loved Starrily Stars so much! I usually prefer flakies but found that flakie Holo Taco can be too concentrated over magnetics, like the Planets collection. I found Stars is truly the perfect topper for them!
