I actually saw sleeping with sirens for the first time at a local band festival in my hometown in Michigan before they even blew up and they have been my favorite band ever since. I almost went and posted that and tagged them on twitter. But the riff is different enough that I could believe that with the resurgence of that almost galloping pace riff, which similar to all of those other universally applicable lawsuit macguffin riffs like Misery Business and Spirit in the Sky, basically take an entire style of riff and trademark it by ensuring their copyright registration covers the "DNA", musical ancestors, tones, alternate versions of the riff, and basically everything else, so if you make a searing high melodic pop punk riff, you automatically pay warner/ fueled by ramen for interpolating misery business, make an old picking bassline in a blues format, you pay whoever owns the rights to Norman Greenbaums music and have to credit him as one of the tracks primary songrwiters. For example, another band on Sumerian Records, Palaye Royale, had a song called Nightmares drop in May 2020, and an alternate version was recorded and within months of that, and while I can draw the connections between Bloody Knuckles and both versions of Nightmares, for different reasons, I didnt even think of that possible blondie riff similarity until I recognized the best parts of Call Me making up the intro and bridge to bloody knuckles. If it is an interpolation, its one of the most skillful ones done in recent years, seeing as remixed glorified covers are now topping charts for some scary reason. (its possible Debbie Harry was able to give permission to use it it uncredited/for free, she is known to be a big fan of the scene genres, and once did some vocals for a Fall Out Boy song called West Coast Smoker, but refusing the feature credit like Cory Taylor sometimes does to let people appreciate the band that wrote a fuckin banger, not "whatever fucking song but it has COREY TAYLOR on it!", and only taking the required credits in the liner notes) if its NOT?... I say we wait for someone who knows the band well to make the connection and DM the right people, and hope that happens before some employee for BMG doesnt run into the office someday soon with a copy of the song in hand, yelling about the payday theyll get once its confirmed that a prolific Metalcore band lifted a blondie song, regardless of intent knowldge or even factual accuracy of said clami, (because after all a couple of the more bullshit claim attempts recently have been rebutted with the stats that say while having any one riff I write match some exact riff you wrote is low probability, but by comparison, the probability that I may write any one riff that I havent heard before or couldnt recall as being from something, that matches any riff that you wrote, or debbie harry wrote, or patrick stump wrote, or kellinquin wrote? THAT probability is EXTREMELY HIGH.
