Kelly Clarkson says weight loss is aided by prescription medication

Kelly Clarkson revealed for the first time that she used medication for her recent weight loss, but said it was not Ozempic. “My doctor chased me for like two years and I was like, ‘No, I'm afraid of it,’” she says during an interview with Whoopi Goldberg. NBC’s Chloe Melas reports for TODAY.

They would twist everything without knowing why she took the drug in the first place. And on top of that, taking a drug like she is, you don’t just lose the weight, she definitely had to change her diet and exercise like her doctor said. She never lied because she just didn’t disclose the medication part of it.

Yup! I would rather use weight loss meds to get to a proper weight then use meds for blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes and other illnesses caused by being overweight. Advanced science is amazing and is a great tool. Glad she finally got healthy and is enjoying her weight loss. She looks 100% better and probably feels better too. If I had the money I would do it also. Eventually the cost will come down and there will be pressure for health plans to start covering it because they see what obesity does and how much it costs all of us when there are so many Americans who are obese and on medications.

I was 44 at the time and did not change anything else in my diet or me level of physical activity which was zero to begin with. She likely said that because there is such judgement around weight and weight loss medicines. Look at the backlash they receive when they disclose the truth. In addition to that, it's no one else's business. She's not required to tell you what worked for her. Besides that, everyone's weight loss journey is different. Just because something worked for one person does not mean it will work for you. There are plenty of people who have used the shots and it did not work for them. Others did keto, IF, etc and what works differs person to person. So from that standpoint, it does not matter what she did because it may not apply to you anyways. Until people stop being shamed for their weight and then being further shamed for how they choose to fix it, they will continue to not disclose the full story.

I'd say Mounjaro since she's been on it for a while and it's meant for prediabetes. Zep is just a rebrand to gain FDA approval specifically for weight loss and that didn't happen until Dec 2023

Back in 2021, I was misdiagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, not only once but twice. In my case, I was losing weight quite quickly, even before my diagnosis. I was and still am a relatively healthy person. I was overweight many years ago, but this was around about the time I was healthy, so when I was losing weight, I wasn't aware of it. I was given a medication called 'Gliclazide' I was told by my doctor that it stops the body from taking the sugar. I live in the Uk, so I was 12 stone 5 lbs and I went down to 9 and a half stone, through not only personal stress that I was experiencing at the time, but diabetes was not helping either, so there was no sole contributor it was pretty much, 'all the things'. I was told about my new diagnosis last year, I now have "LADA" which is a latent type 1 diabetes, I take long and short-acting insulin, and certain medications and have a sensor as well, which helps a ton! Well, that's it!

When something sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. Back in the early 80’s I took Dexatrim, not to lose weight, but to help ease hunger pangs because I could not afford an adequate diet. It worked fantastic, but of course, turned out that one of the ingredients was causing hemorrhagic stroke in young women. So the formula changed, and so did it’s effectiveness. I really wonder about this Ozempic, and it’s off shoots. Time will tell.

Maybe metformin? I have insulin resistance and pcos. Started taking metformin and started losing weight quite quickly especially since I was already eating healthier and exercising. It was a side effect rather than the intended use. It helped keep my glucose levels in check. Lots of people have health problems we don't know about and there are a tons of treatments she could be using that are not Ozempic.Quit speculating!

I too was prediabetic once and that's the first thing my doctor prescribed to me. She also said it's something that helps her body 'process sugars correctly' which is exactly what Metformin is for. Everybody (the people accusing her of taking Ozempic) wants to know what she took so bad but if she actually came out and said it they still wouldn't believe her anyway because the truth isn't always so glamorous. I was 246lbs. Healthier eating choices and exercise helped me. Also getting out of a marriage that wasn't working too. I never heard of the weight loss Rx Mounjaro. I will talk to my doctor's to see if it would be good for me. After two Gestational diabetes pregnancies I am 50% more likely to get type 2 diabetes. Also my Grandma had to take insulin daily. That scares me too. My step mom took me to a nutritionist that put me in a casein-free diet. It's been very difficult to follow. I did not find out until 50 year's of age that I'm lactose intolerant. It's been a journey for 8 year's. Glad to know what I know now. Thanks. Kelly and Oprah. You're women people trust to look up to.

If it has similar side-effect profile as semaglutide (minimal) then it's a good thing. Being obese is terrible for your health; even if there are some side effects to the med if you take it to the white board the pros may outweigh the cons. Just don't lie and say you did it without prescriptions, which she isn't. Good for her.

I love Kelly and it is no ones business how she lost weight. People trust her so when she said walking and eating high protein, I am sure she influenced a ton of people to live a healthier lifestyle. Which is great but when they do not lose 40lbs in a few months, people are going to get discouraged and think that they are failing. She should of said I did a combination of things and leave it at that.

In all honesty I love Kelly Clarkson but working in the industry and I myself can say. She more than likely did not use medication. This is from either gastric bypass or gastric sleeve surgery. I was 300 pounds and in 2022 has vsg. And now I’m at 160. I’m also 5’3. Kelly, this doesnt seem like the truth is not medicine. Medications are horrible for weightloss. And if it is a medication it is more than likely not FDA approved.

I mean, happy for her, not hate or anything but then.. we , the “unimportant” people with similar issues that we diet and exercise and fast .. never get anything like that on prescription unless we are nearly dying. But for a celebrity help is available regardless of how overweight they are. I don’t think she was too big. But yeah, we’d love the doctors to help any of us, hormonal issues, pre diabetic is nothing if it’s about us, normal people..

I have the same health problems as kelly. I have hypothyroid and my weight goes up&down. I was fit got diagnosed with hypothyroid at 28 (thyroid problems not making alot of hormones). I was going up & down up&down. I got pregnant and after my pregnancy It has been hard losing the weight ... I eat healthier I live in Chicago which makes it worst because winter here is brutal. But now that is summer I am more active. I have a toddler son now and he walks everywhere I take him to the park I walk around my neighborhood with his stroller I eat healthier I don't eat junk food it's been hard. But I've notice I haven't gained or lost any weigh I am still in the same weight that i hate... I talked to my endocrinologist and she said most patients with thyroid issues is hard to lose it. I am pre diabetic and thats why I left the junk late night snacking and it sucks because I have a sweet tooth 😢... I love sweets and it's just been a roller coaster of emotions... I wish the best ! I know the struggles... & I hope she shares what medication she's taking since I am also having trouble with weight lose&I have hypothyroid as well
