Bill Howard This is a jazz/blues version, and is nothing like Patsy Cline's version which is pretty much Country. I don't think she could even sing in this way, and I don't suppose it would have ever crossed her mind. I'm not trying to denigrate Patsy who was such a fine and well-loved singer. But this is a completely out-of -this world version as far as I'm concerned. But then I've always been a sucker for Jazz and Blues, and was never very keen on Country generally although Jerry Lee has me hooked for sheer emotional impact like none of the others have managed.

I love the artistic license. To me, each person brings something new to music and different interpretations are great. I love to hear different voices on songs. That being said, this shouldn't be passed off as country. Blues? Jazz blues? Sure. But this isn't country. Her interpretation, while brilliant, is about as country as polka.

Clarkson did a good job, but changed the feel of the song imo. I prefer patsy clines version. The blues and I guess soul type sounds change the feel of the song entirely for me. It’s like there’s too much “attitude” for a song that to me always felt desperate and lonely, but Kelly sang her ass off that’s for sure.
