Kelly definitely was brave to air her "dirty laundry" in this song. Isolating a person from their support system is part of grooming a person to be a victim of abuse. It's an early sign that many miss.

@@JackReacts904 well, it's spoken about, but widely tolerated. Historically, Black women were always reluctant to report Black men because the penalty/punishment was so severe. Even among members of the Black movement (such as the Black Panthers) women were often the casualties of Black progress. This is why Malcolm X said "The Black Woman is the most disrespected & least protected in America". When I work with teens, it hurts my heart to hear some of the girls, some as young as 12 year old talking about how their boyfriends hit them.

In an interview she said when this song came out that Beyoncé is never left, she always been there for her but this is just how she felt at that time, and actually The Dream wrote the song ( lyrics as well ) after he had a conversation with Kelly about this. She wrote the song The dream just co-roaded and help compose the beat to it and someone else also help with the beat and they worked on the rhythm together but clearly she wrote it so she knows how she felt and she wrote how she felt the song is clearly from her point of view. Domestic abuse victims tend to believe everybody abandoned them and normally that is the case when you constantly telling that person to stay away from this guy and leave this guy alone they often leave you alone and stop talking to you then you stop talking to them and then you know you stay away and that person needs you all of us something after they push you away that's 10 to happen all the time

This is the most vulnerable song that Kelly has ever made. I remember her saying that she was crying in the studio when she recorded this. Years before this song came out Destiny's Child made a song called Girl. Now looking back in retrospect I'm pretty sure their song Girl is about Kelly and her abusive ex. At the time I just thought that Destiny's Child as a group was just putting out a song with a deep message. Most people didn't know the depth of the actual situation until Dirty Laundry came out. It really is sad how abusers will try to keep a person away from the people who really love them. Beyonce and Kelly have been best friends since they were in elementary school...they are basically sisters at this point. I'm so glad Kelly made it out of that relationship alive and is now married to a better man that treats her like the queen she is. Another deep song by Kelly that you should react to is called Stole. You should also react to If We Had Your Eyes by Michelle Williams because that's another deep song. Oh and react to Resentment, If I Were A Boy, Pretty Hurts by Beyonce because those are deep too.

The water scenes are interesting because a lot of abuse victims say that they feel like they're "drowning", which takes then meaning deeper. Also, since the water looks black, it's like she's drowning in darkness, with the title of dirty laundry: it turns water dark as you clean the clothes. Deeply impactful song.

You should react to Girl by Destiny's Child, which came out in 2004-05. Even though Dirty Laundry came out so much later, there's a connection b/t the two songs. The song really emphasize the sisterhood between the ladies.

YOU NEED TO BUY HER ALBUMS😆. Kelly has always been a very transparent artist. She's been sharing personal stories since her debut. From Simply Deep's "Beyond Imagination" to Ms. Kelly's "Still In Love With My Ex" to the Ms. Kelly Deluxe Edition EP which had a song called "Love Again" (if you thought Kelly was singing in this video, wait until you hear that song). Then there's Talk A Good Game's "Dirty Laundry" (which you just reviewed). Kelly has put out 4 1/2 full bodies of work, but she has tons of buzz singles floating around on the internet (and some of them are available to stream/purchase) as well as a 3 track EP that was released last year through RED BULL Studios (It's a whole vibe😀). In fact I'll paste the link to the documentary for that project below. I've always been one who roots for the underdog, but Kelly is an underdog who has just as much (if not more) talent than the top dog (we all know who that is) and so many people are missing out on this phenomenal woman because of popularity contests, industry politics and biased fan bases. Don't you be one of those people. CHECK HER OUT. She's worth your time. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqrTg52Dh8ulqKs

After watching this, it occurred to me that four of the women you've reacted to on your channel (Kelly, Mariah, Janet, and Whitney) have all described experiencing an abusive/controlling/violent relationship (or multiple ones). And they've each touched on how these experiences impacted them through their music, whether they wrote the lyrics or not. I agree with those who recommend "Girl" (2004) by Destiny's Child because I also think it further contextualizes "Dirty Laundry," and "What About" (1997) by Janet for the similar message (but it's also one of those you need to make sure you're in the right headspace to do). Domestic violence truly is an issue that most people would rather hide than speak about, and it's important to remember that it doesn't discriminate by age, race, religion, gender, socioeconomic status, or orientation, because there are a lot of people who are too afraid to get help because of stigma. I applaud you for recognizing the strength it takes to put out something like this and not making light of it.

She actually wasn’t talking about being in the shadows while in Destiny’s Child. She was referring to the time period after the Destiny’s Child “Survivor” album when the group separated briefly for solo careers. That’s when Beyoncé blew up with “03 Bonnie & Clyde” with Jay Z and “Crazy In Love” came out. Kelly had a huge hit with Nelly called “Dilemma.” And Michelle had a number one gospel album. Kelly has a lot you can check out and react to. Check out “Stole,” “Motivation,” “Ice,” and “When Love Takes Over.” She also has quite a bit of features with other artists.

I was a teenager in the 90's so 90's R&B is my shit. I love 2Pac, Michael, TLC, Whitney, etc. I love your reactions because you really get into the music and feel it. So, I wanted to recommend you 3 songs by Madonna. I know Madonna is more known for her pop songs, which are not really what this channel is about, but in the 90's Madonna released two albums that were purely R&B. Specially "Bedtime Stories", produced by Dallas Austin (who also produced TLC, Michael Jackson, Boyz 2 Men, and Mariah Carey). She was dating 2Pac at that time. You should react to "Secret", "Human Nature" and "Take a Bow". In that order. And after you react to "Secret" I'm sure people will start asking you to react to all her pop hits, but trust me, those 3 songs are the ones for this channel. After those you have Waiting, Why's it so Hard, Inside of Me and other R&B songs that have no official video. Thank you, great channel, and keep it coming!
