Seriously! I get her initial rage about it though- she wasn’t even suggesting it *only* be Osbourne, she just wanted him to have half of each family’s name for their beloved son! And actually it was entirely her right to name the baby anything she wanted, and refuse anyone else’s wishes (not suggesting any couple should do that), but she relented and gave her husband his way completely! It’s seriously wonderful that they’ve gotten help to go back over past hurt to reach mutual understanding/forgiveness, AND that they were able to agree on a resolution. Makes me happy to hear about humans treating each other well, especially if they put in whatever work is necessary to do better and heal the past!

Ownership? I might not (I wouldn’t but that’s just me, personally) refer to being a parent as “ownership” but…okay. 😳 And saying it felt like your (ex) partner was trying to “take away” your “ownership” makes it sound…as if you may need some mental health assessments? Parenting classes? There’s no shame in that. Many of us take parenting classes, etc. Being a good parent is a lot of work. And no parent does it perfectly. So I’m not saying any of this with true nastiness in my heart. I hope things are better with the addition of your last name. Which, btw, is usually the person’s (in this case, your) father’s last name. You might have received your mother’s maiden name at your birth but again? That was your mother’s father’s last name so…it’s just kind of the way it’s been. If changing THAT “norm” is your hill to die on then I wish you much luck! If it’s just about the addition of your last name then there are many who have done that before you; I’m sure they’ll be happy to have you join them. 🙂

I went through this exact scenario. Then I got pregnant with baby number two and said “okay here’s the choice: we either change our first borns name and give them both hyphenated names, or this one gets MY last name only.” He was not happy but I refused to budge. After seeing what motherhood actually entailed in my situation, I KNEW I deserved my name to be in there if I wanted it there. After a LOT of arguing, he finally relented and we legally changed our first borns name so both of our kids have the same last name. I also didn’t change my name when we got married so the connection means even more to me - otherwise i appear to be the nanny when i go to pick them up.

Kelly, me hearing you say, " he wouldn't let me ", pierced through my heart. It also gives insight on whose the alpha in this marriage. You were brought up with a strong mother who knows exactly where this will lead if its not already there.. Words are more abusive than actually being hit. Your a strong women Kelly and I'm going to say this, love is double barreled, trust me this is a huge red flag Kelly. If you do not begin to take control of your part in this relationship example, letting your partner have control of " you , is out of the question ( period ) " he wouldn't let me ", I'm glad you spoke openingly so you yourself can actually watch this video and hear what you just said , " why", because when we are in a relationship we don't see the forrest through the trees. That said, if another women said this , you would of said , not me, I'd never let someone make me do something I didn't want to do!! Now, I'm sure your mom is keeping a close watch without actually you or anyone else thinking mom isn't there , trust me our parents know immediately its a paternal instinct but, we have to stay back , watch and listen, allow our children to learn that's what life is about to a certain point. Now, if someone was to hurt our child we'd be ballistic in a heartbeat. The one thing I'm thankful for is that you are close to your parents and are able and do talk to them about your life in general . Praise be for that because there are parents who have no clue about there children. I know you might think I'm a bit much but, I've been abused and it starts out with little quirks example: your wearing something you like and he'll say, i think that doesn't look good on you or worse gees , I think you look a bit fat in that dress. We take it as he'sbeing sweet , "oh " how sweet he's looking out for me , thanks hon, I'll change . Then comes the I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth I worked for all I got . The feel sorry for me act with the added dislike for yourself. You mentioned couples therapy! Thats a great thing. But, I'm going to say this, if one day should you feel things aren't well enough for you or your son never stay in a relationship for fear of being looked at as a failure! My first marriage wasn't right and it was over jealousy nonsense that got completely draining . I left thanks to my parents seeing that I feared they would be upset should I left . Years later I met the right man been together 29 years . The ironic thing was my mom loved him . Our parents are always right. I learned that the hard way. My mother could see right through whomever I was dating and I was always like the puppy dog who fell in love and dam it I love him. It took til I was 37 yrs old to finally stop butting heads with my mom and realizing she really has my back. Daughters tend to go through this odd thing with there mothers. No matter how close or how much we love one another , we still can butt heads. I say, its because we are like our moms , the old phrase, if you want to know what your girl is going to be like and look like at 50, look at there mom ! LOL- As we grow older we learn that mom is the person we will always have by our sides good, bad and ugly. I hope you never say, " he wouldn't let me ", again . I'm sure therapy has pointed that out. Cause your now changing your sons name to what is rightfully his and thats his parents parents names, his heritage , he has a mother and father again, he is of both of you not one ! I'm glad your both changing it. Continued Blessings Kelly ❤
