If you ever feel useless, remember there was a guy ringing a bell while Shermans were shooting all over the place.

Such a crazy movie. Deadly serious at some points and at others just over the top crazy humor. Some really sick people among the writers. Twisted individuals.

One of my Dad’s favorite movies, see the Sherman wasn’t completely useless. It was mass produced in Detroit and everywhere else. Then had to be shipped to the opposite side of the globe. Because of that it had to be smaller than the Tiger and Panther. US AirPower took care of the big cats when they needed to.
@rhyskandoll94725 ай бұрын
US Airpower massively over-reported their successes, also the Shermans dealt with German armor rather handily, considering they almost always had quite the numbers advantage, the Sherman also with its ergonomics and accommodations for crew safety, had the second highest crew survival rate of the war. US tankers could bail out of a Sherman, walk back to the lines, and be in the fight again with a fresh fist of iron.

"Oddball" says earlier in the movie that they added "pipe" to the Sherman's main guns to approximate a much larger gun. But it's entirely visible that the guns on the Sherman's are rifled all the way to the end.. That would mean they are "Firefly" Shermans... equipped with the 76.2mm main gun...
@SilveradoChris3 жыл бұрын
These are M4A3s with the M1 76mm gun and not a Firefly. The Firefly's are equipped with a modified 17 pounder gun and have a round muzzle break. Only the British used the Firefly and most were M4A4s. The tanks in the move are an early attempt to put the US 76mm in the Sherman. This version was never used as the turret which was designed for the 74 was deemed too small and was not until the later E6 program did the Sherman get the 76mm in the T23 turret such as the tank in the movie Fury. These tanks were given to Yugoslavia at the end of WW2 and that is where the movie was made. The chieftains hatch and has a video on the M4 Sherman and its evolution through WW2.

You really think that Odd Ball wouldn't try and make his COs think he was less well equipped than he was? If his COs think he's got a smaller gun, he gets put in less danger and seems like he can pull things off against the odds more times than nod.

@@MeepChangeling Oddball & his platoon were staying out of the war by not staying in the same place too long. by the time someone would ask"Why is that platoon not in action?" they would pick up stakes & leave.

Nice Yugoslavian built Shermans. Also the "germans" are YNA soldiers. So is the plane that destroys the convoy later in the movie.😁
