Very inspired right now. My two favorite surfers head to head i was hoping for john john but ether way this was a overwhelming heat for me to watch. Definitely was a little emotional on this one, I'm stoked for kelly to finally get back in the grove of it and john getting his well earned place on the top of the wls yeeeww. Such a heavy interview at the end, Kelly so humbled, i truly believe that statement he made about channeling in with AI, next thing you know he gets the award with just an absolutely incredible performance, and no doubt about it, he is getting toward the end of his career, beast at his age....Of course no disrespect to the other surfers but, damn Kelly is killing it still.

To think this is the same Kelly Slater that I used to watch at my local beach when he would come here for a surf competitions when I was a kid in the really early 90’s and he was just starting to make a name for himself..Amazing. He still surfs around the world and hasn’t missed a step if not still getting better it seems at times..meanwhile I’m just a few years older then him and I’m almost bed ridden from a fire department injury that I tried to ignore and came back and bite me hardcore the second time back broke..So miss the surf. To see him doing this stuff and I used to watch him bk then it makes me feel like a bum for not even hitting the beach anymore.yet I live 10 miles from it,, So much respect for Kelly Slater. Keep up the great work.

I hate how WSL only uploads videos of heats that are HIGHLIGHTS...... HEY WSL Upload the ENTIRE heat ... so we can experience the tension, emotion when no waves come for 10 minutes ... etc etc.. Someone at the WSL site even made a request in the feedback on your site for it and hope everyone that views this video finds that on the feedback and upvotes/joins that request... Watching the highlights we get to see the highest scored waves but not the EMOTION the TACTICS the SUSPENSE of each heat... PLEASE START UPLOADING ENTIRE HEATS.

How was JJFs first wave an 8 whilst Kelly doing an incomplete floater after his tube is an 8.57. Like Kelly was the well deserved winner, don't get me wrong but that 8 should have been higher

The first waves in a heat are always scored more conservatively... It's hard to come out of the box with a 9 or 10.

bruce949 I would agree before 2014, but ever since Kelly got a 10 in the first 5 minutes of a heat in the chopes semi (funnily enough against JJF) I feel the judges are a bit inconsistent with how they score the first wave. Still every wave after should compare with each other and not be unique to themselves

difficulty... dropping in like JJ did (and it wasn't a set wave) got a respectible score, then kelly does almost save tube but a turn and float.. so it's pretty close and what Bruce949 said. They ALWAYS score lower on the first wave (even on set waves) to leave a margin for something EPIC to happen and deserve a 10.
