Praise Jesus that I’m not the only one. IGS first wave was a FULL point overscored if not more and his second wave should have been in the same range. Not sure why he was gifted those scores. Kelly got a little off track towards the tail end but he shouldn’t have been in the position he was in to begin with. Not saying kelly cooked him or anything but he should have been much closer score wise or actually had the lead. I guess all you need to do is just throw ridiculous claims and it adds a point or 2

Slater's *many barrels were underscored. KI's "top 2" waves were all turns. Just saying. Also on this same vibe: WSL stop trying to pull strings and have certain guys win to tell some kind of a marketing epic story (last year was bad) - or develop hype for countries that are growing in surfing hype for more coin or brand sales. Just let them surf and judge fairly for all surfers.

So bummed. Keramas is for barrels. It's like going to Pipe or Teahupoo dodge the barrel and beat the guys hunting the barrels. Riding the tube is way more critical than any turn in the open face.

Other than the Kerzy nose pick, most of Kanoa's turns weren't that progressive. They are glorified check turns and Kanoa gets scored on them higher than he should. Releasing your tail at the end of a turn, on the face, is waaaaay easier than doing a turn in a critical section on the face and keeping the rail engaged all the way through. I doesnt require as good of timing, and should be scored lower.

I don't think Kanoa's waves were overscored. They were pretty sweet, no double pumping etc. Now Kelly's wave being underscored... jeez something going on there, especially given that Kanoa skipped an entire barrel section on one of waves. Each event has a scoring emphasis, so perhaps the barrels were as important? Weird.

Kanoa definitely got a little overscored and he dodged some nice barrels for some reason but Kelly didnt surf very cleanly. The conditions were a bit choppier than the previous days and his surfing wasnt a s fluid. Still think his first wave was at least a 7.2 though

Wow what a robbery. This is one of the reasons I never watch live anymore. Judges are not even following their own criteria. Kanoa's first wave had faults, either flow or control was lacking in each turn, sometimes both. If the turns were full power hacks then I can see three proper turns competing with a barrel. But three mediocre turns Vs decent barrel - barrel wins every time...

hahahaha wow the scoring on kanoas waves..not taking anything away from him or his skills but every turn in this heat from his was not critical. he was ending his turns early avoiding any of the impact zone. was barely even getting back to the pocket of the wave. i know the judges wanted to see more turns on the face but you guys are judging in the semi finals.. slater was at least in the zone to get pummeled by the wave not out running the wave while turning down the face avoiding the impact zone in the cutbacks. based on the lack of barrels though out the comp i also surprised these barrels were not scored higher.

Slater (and Flores) robbed. They were surfing for Sunny with such power it was mesmeriszing but pomotion for Tokyo Olympics won the judges mind. Not surprising a (arrogant) Japanese won an Asian contest with the Tokyo Olympics on the horizon.

Quit favor regional peoples to pump their emerging markets for money. Brazil, sure they have great surfers; however, Kanoa isn't that good on his best day! He's an air tool, not a power tool... You're just trying to take advantage of Japan for love of money, they aren't stupid. That's the kind of cheap crap that makes the real surfers flip you off or even better, QUIT! Japan isn't buying it, they are still a culture of honor and they know Kanoa didn't win. I can't wait for Japan's Olympic Games, that's when you'll see real scores and a level playing field for surfers.

He did that fins above the lip even more radical at some point. Igarashi had this beautiful carve or 360 inside or something and thats it? idk. Paulo Eclectik good combos were easily the criteria from day 1, especially the first turn, not a barrel and 1 cutback. Just listen to the commentary, they are telling you what the judges want to see. I’m kellys matchup and in the final.
