There are lot of place to surf in the West coast of Italy .. the waves are not big often but in the winter when the swell is coming the waves could be huge...BUT Leo moved to hossegor when he was 16, when he figured out he could become prof

theres only one turn that kelly does on that tiny board that i like and i think benefits from being so small, all the other turns do not benefit from having a smaller board

I have no Slater bias, but I think Slater did the more progressive radical and interesting surfing in this heat all the way through to the end of his waves on all but maybe one wave. Leonardo just did basic radical(but not exceptional) carve and lip float surfing, same as from 1990 basically, - corporate basic nothing exceptional, basically clean and strong. Kelly was way more creative, and basically pulled it all off, at a high level. Looks like Leonardo has more board than Kelly, wider tail too. Kelly could stand to slightly increase the volume of his boards to smooth and solidify his surfing a bit more. Leonardo could stand to slightly narrow his board tail,… looked like it surfed a bit too wide as for the tail engagement.

I agree 100% with Bond's analysis. Funny also that the WSL doesn't respect tubes, when for "normal" surfers we hardly ever get barreled. I get tubed like 10x per YEAR, so a real tube (even an almond one, like Kelly's was) is WAY more exceptional than an off the lip. And by real tube I mean a tube that the wave offers up, which Kelly's did, not that you hand-drag. And he also got tubed on the left at the end... Oh well.

as much as id love to defend slates and complain about corrupt judging i think this heat was fair. leo was definitely picking better lines. Kelly looked like he was struggling a bit

leo surfed pretty good that heat. his best waves were bigger/ more powerful and he finished them off well on heavier sections.

kelly slater won and has been wining all along the wsl is just not giving him his points since he lost sponsorship witch means you are not promoting any brand and promoting the business so you will not win its that simple and its so obvious in compitition since he quit quicksilver he all of a sudden hasn't won a single contest its sadly about the money and not the talent anymore
