Nightwish has outdone themselves with this entire album!..and Floor's singing is simply angelic right through, and the prime reason for the goosebumps and tears brought throughout the experience. NO other vocalist has this effect on me, so you're not alone Kelly, all of us has that experience with NW. Great hearing little man purr his approval too..

I keep coming back to your thoughtful reactions to Nightwish's masterpieces. Their latest release reflects Nightwish's and Tuomas' in particular ongoing maturity and evolution. Tuomas is a remarkable man - he questions much, feels deeply and it is obvious that he has an unslakable thirst for comprehension. I mean, who else writes like this? Who else save the musical giants of our history composes like this? Toumas has recently said that Nightwish is far from done - that there is so much more he wants to be able to convey. Thank you for helping others understand the deeper and often stunningly beautiful and profound meanings behind his work.

You said it Kelly. Music is a gift given to humanity. Beautiful poem to start the show my friend. The opening gives me the vibe of an orchestra tuning up before the performance. Then you see the dark landscape and suddenly a light appears in the distance. Then another one followed by more. In my opinion these are fires illuminating the darkness as the clans hear the bear bone playing, calling out to listen to the first music. When the chorus takes over the tears started to flow just watching your joyous reaction to the sound. Such a beautiful chorus and the lyrics are amazing. I knew you would appreciate this CD, because you understand the intricacies and complexity of music and poetry. Words are so important to Tuomas and you are the only reactor so far to understand and feel the depth of the lyrics. No one else has understood the melismatic, as opposed to syllabic vocal style which Tuomas has composed for this song. Only a vocalist like Floor could even pull this off, especially live. Beautifully analyzed once again my friend. Be well and stay safe. Until the next time, peace and love.

@@KellyDeaconKDzJOY It was my pleasure Kelly. You truly are wonderful and insightful and a total joy to experience these reactions with because you get it. I love your poetic soul and emotional spirit. I will join you for the next one. I am anxious to see your response. The song is an ode to Eugene Shoemaker an American geologist and one of the founders of the field of planetary science. He co-discovered Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 with his wife Carolyn S. Shoemaker and David H. Levy. This comet hit Jupiter in July 1994: the impact was televised around the world. Shoemaker also studied terrestrial craters, such as Barringer Meteor Crater in Arizona, and was the first scientist to conclude that these craters were caused by meteor impacts. He was also the first director of the United States Geological Survey's Astrogeology Research Program. He was killed in a car accident while visiting an impact crater site in Australia. After his death, some of his ashes were carried to the Moon with the Lunar Prospector mission. Be well and stay safe my friend.

I think some of the first sounds of the song sound like the sound of the wind blowing through a rock in a cave, or a bamboo tree. I'm not sure, but if combined with the first verse it fits quite well. Before human arrived, the house of music was cloud, wind, bird sound, sound of northern light, etc.

I love the characterization of music as an entity in this song’s lyrics. You talk about how the third part is the human soul and I think you hit something right on the head there. Music is soul, but not in the way most people think of “soul”. One could argue all day about where the soul of music resides. Is it in the composer? The performer? The listener? I think it’s something more than that. It is all of these, yes, but there’s something more beyond. Music happens when these souls combine and create an experience that is utterly unique in each circumstance. No two people will ever experience the same “music”, no matter who the composer or performer are, because each person has their own soul and this combines with the heart of the music to make that unique experience.
@bloodhayze

You and Kelly have started the million dollar conversation that we should be having. The "soul of music" and where it resides. Im only 25, have only been listening to music intently for only 12 about years and dont know much of anything about these things. I've taken concert band throughout middle school and high school and all this time this has been a thought that has been behind the back of my mind. What is truly music, and why does it have such a profound impact on our lives? When Nightwish talks about music "fanning the flames of the mystery", i wonder what is that mystery? Maybe the mystery of the soul.

Music: harmonic connector of souls Thank you for taking the time to listen and analyze the first song of this amazing work Tuomas and the crew have shared with us. This song has (personified) music sharing its history with us and our symbiotic relationship with it; music is one aspect of what it means to be human and our connection to nature, and this song sets the stage for a deep dive into.... human:||:nature. I think you will love the journey. Be well.

Great reaction and I love the lyrical analysis. "Singing the tale of another man" to me is the storytelling aspect of music. Describing this piece in a few words? Wow, this song just touches the heart of being human, music separates us from the animals and is in my opinion human's greatest accomplishment. This song just captures that beauty and accomplishment beautifully. looking forward to more reactions from Human Nature, please continue with the lyrical analysis, it is very interesting to hear other people's interpretations. you nailed this one I think.

I read this in a KZbin comment I think, and I forget who to attribute it to, but someone said, "Music is what emotions sound like". Tuomas's original idea was "to tell the story of the entity of music descending on mankind". Musically, the demo shifted musical genres with each part of the song. While he scrapped that idea, I'm not sure if the theme remained. If so, I guess Floor would be the "Entity of Music".

Oh, I agree with you (and the FB music page)..... Tuomas has been our teacher...... I tend to feel he was present for the birth of song (metaphorically speaking and in my opinion) Tuomas was sent as a muse to inspire our world. In fact, when I use spoken poem at the beginning of the 'music' reaction I am talking about Tuomas.

This song is a great opening track for this album, and also one of the top songs in my opinion, well the top picks on the album is still very close, there might be 3 or 4 other songs, and Music is not my favorite still, but close.. the song builds slowly as human discover the musical instruments. The drums and percussion then that harp from 2800BC that takes up the whole screen floating in space then the voice and other instruments through to the electric guitar solo. The greedy crowd also is like making music for yourself and not for the audience...be true to yourself and if others also see the merit they will partake. Great reaction, and explanation of lyrics(your thoughts), loved it!!

"Shadows of shadows passing. It is now 1831, and as always I am absorbed with a delicate thought. It is how poetry has indefinite sensations, to which end music is inessential. Since the comprehension of sweet sound is our most indefinite conception, music, when combined with a pleasurable idea, is poetry. Music without the idea is simply music. Without music or an intriguing idea, colour becomes pallor, man becomes carcase, home becomes catacomb, and the dead are but for a moment motionless." I love your reactions - they are just... *something* more, your own manifest impressions as presented in your own work blossoming forth from your thoughts like Athena from Zeus' forehead, all ready and thoughtful and never appearing inappropriate, bloated or vainglorious!^^ It's a bit similar to my own thought process (without the *beauty* though, I work in historical associations ;) ), but I only reached that state of semiotic-association-by-impulse after 10 long years of academic training, and I highly doubt that a person as smart as you wasted 10 years on universities only to become an orthopedic shoemaker eventually ;). Stay save! Raoul G. Kunz Edit: Three of four words that describe "Music" => *(the) Base of (all) cultural semiotics.* I know, I cheated, but the phrase works without the qualifiers and articles ;).

Yes, I've known no other 'musical group' that has ever touched me like they do. It's who they are....it's Tuomas' words, they operate at a greater level, and we appreciate that level of beauty with understanding that some people cannot understand (if that makes sense). I absolutely am excited to dig into all of the songs. I feel bad I cannot do them more timely, due to my work schedule....it's okay though..... "we were here" that's what counts right Mantai? Thank YOU for being here.

I definitely like it (and the rest of the album), but I will have to listen to it several times to absorb it before I decide if it's a masterpiece or not in my eyes.I've never been a big "lyrics" guy so I listen and judge it solely on musical and vocal merits. My final opinion will also depend on how the songs translate in the live environment. It's great to see you enjoy it and get so emotional on first listen...and your lyrical interpretations are always very insightful. I look forward to watching you react to all of the songs of the new album. I'm wondering to myself if maybe it would be better to do the entire second disc as one big reaction video....hmmm. It DOES come across as one long song split into movements, to me at least. 3 or 4 words eh? How about "I must listen again". Cheers!

We were here. Interesting analasys of the lyrics, though in some parts I wonder if the meaning was a little simpler than you made it, for example "Singing the tale of another man" might just mean singing a song someone else wrote, showing how music and song can pass on stories and knowlede.

I think that sentence must go with the whole part later. People often sing other people's songs, they need to listen to themselves for the first song to come to them. Have you read Masanobu Fukuoka's "A Straw Revolution" book? In it he talks about having children listen to the music of nature, and the music and singing will come to them on their own (not by trapping them in four walls with a guitar for hours of practice). ) Mastering an instrument, of course, requires a lot of hard work, but creativity comes from the soul. Tuomas also said that the best way for him to be inspired to compose is to sweat for hours in the nature. Sorry for the bad english

In a recent interview Tuomas told that at first he composed this song combining different genres (classical, blues, jazz, rock & what have you) of music that have evolved through ages, but it sounded awful, so he rewrote the whole song. P.S. People who say dogs are a man's best friend couldn't be more wrong. Without cats we all would die of extinction due to exploding rat & mice populations eating out food & spreading diseases.

Very sweet reaction my dear. I love this albuml. listening I some times get a lil emotional, other times I hear parts of songs and get such a rush of adrenaline, I literally yell out "Oh my God!!" Or "Holy S**T!!". Please do the album in-order, in separate videos if you could, it really needs to be heard that way. Maybe skip Noise?, but I think Music and Noise go together and enhance one another, so maybe just do it again?. Would bother me a bit 😁❤

Loved this. Silence of sound: Those spaces between in music can have huge meaning, which he also alludes to in Shudder Before the Beautiful. 'silence between the notes deafens me with endless love' Since I know how Nightwish affects you, I am posting a couple of really funny videos to react to, to help you take a break if you need one. ( I did heh ) kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5jJgHt7lq2XoNE kzbin.info/www/bejne/fnemiaKbm7p_pac I didn't know most of the songs, but I still laughed cause he silly. The content of the hand washing video was most definitely needed.
