It's amazing how this little lick barely 30sec long sums up the genius of Joe Walsh. He's one of the most musical guitarists I've ever heard. I literally think if he fell down the stairs with a guitar in his hands some amazing lick would happen.

Joe is the King! He's the only reason I don't change the station when an Eagles song comes on.At least from Hotel California and on. Before that I'll listen to Take it to the Limit pretty much exclusively. Joe is such an underrated guitarist

This is a bit encouraging. I taught myself how to play this before youtube was invented. I'm a bass player by choice, but I had borrowed a friend's guitar for a few days (back in 1990ish) and learned this song, I figured out pinch harmonics, and that lead me into learning "Territories" by Rush. Anyway, I play it exactly how you just showed. I generally watch tutorials to see teachers "teaching" wrong ways to play.

You're still playing it "wrong" compared to the way he's playing on the Stern show. You need to go back and take a good look at that again. The "click" is coming from his downward pick stroke that is muted and then he is actually snapping the note with his index finger.

It's hard on a Les Paul with 10's. It makes me think it's a skinny string thing. I'm sure it's easier on a Strat with the longer scale, and trem.
