Hi Kelly I agree "slugging" is a new term for an old skincare trick. Despite having tried a few K beauty sleeping packs (including the purito dermide and the cosrx rice version), they weren't occlusive enough for my severely dry skin out with the warmer months. I actually used up both as daytime moisturisers under a sunscreen - my skin is super dry/dehydrated. Instead I went back to using a body cream on my face/neck/chest overnight including the LRP Lipikar and the Altruist dry skin cream. Both of these have petrolatum in the ingredients, but they're a rich cream rather than an ointment. This remember is for my severely dry, mature, rosacea and ECZEMA prone skin, but probably will not suit others without such dryness to combat. Even with these types of cream I can wake up dry/dehydrated - so it's not too heavy for me. I also feed my skin with oil (currently cacay oil) both morning and night, especially in the Winter. Mature skin loses oestrogen and with it also goes a lot of the sebum production in our skin - my skin literally no longer produces any oil of it's own. I've always been dry (face and body), but the dryness increased massively during menopause. Rich emollient creams are necessary for my skin to be comfortable, but body creams are usually richer in texture than face creams. This makes them a viable choice as a sleeping pack/night cream for extremely dry skin. I choose fragrance free creams with beneficial ingredients, but the size also makes them really affordable to use in this way. Best wishes.

agreed - the rice cream is super light like a lotion, NOT an occlusive layer. Eucerin just came out with this weirdly named but great product called essential oil balm. It spreads like warm butter instead of chunky like the cerave ointment, and it's lightweight but has all the occlusives (plus glycerin and urea!): Glycerin, Decyl Oleate, Octyldodecanol, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, C18-38 Alkyl Hydroxystearoyl Stearate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cetearyl Alcohol, Coco-Glycerides, Cetyl Palmitate, Polyglyceryl-3 Diisostearate, Beeswax, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Urea, Glycine, Sodium Pca, Arginine Hcl, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Tocopherol, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Water, Magnesium Stearate, Magnesium Sulfate, Decylene Glycol

I also use quite a lot of AC (I live in central Africa so forever humid summer) and I’ve noticed that no matter how much I apply my moisturizer I wake up a little dry. I’m looking into adding an occlusive into my routine

@@ornellansoki I'm from South East Asia and sleep in AC as well. I used to have similar problem to you. To combat them, I used heavy moisturiser (pyunkang yul ato cream) and mixed in few drops of oil (rosehip or squalene oil). On top of that, used the Soon Jung cica sleeping pack. So far this combo work for me. The Soon Jung sleeping pack is very thick, but my dry skin loves it!

I’ve been “slugging” forever. Learned it from my late Mum and Grandmother. But I have very dry skin. They had dry skin as well. I use it on my neck, too. I use the Cerave because it has ceramides. But I use Petroleum Jelly as well.

I love the Purito Dermide sleeping pack! I use it prior to applying my Tretinoin; it helps to strengthen the skin barrier, alleviate irritation, and minimizes the Tretinoin peelies. I still use a light layer of vaseline around my eyes (especially the corners) and corners of my mouth- these are not areas you want Tretinoin.

I stick to plain old petroleum jelly. Contains only 1 ingredient so no fear of getting irritation from other ingredients. Easily accessible, can go to a target, cvs, or Walmart. Great bang for your buck that I don't need to be mindful about the amount I use and the frequency I slug. Plus the sticky texture forces me sleep on my back. Lol

I’ve never used a sleeping pack before but, I have added a few drops of facial oil to my moisturizer at night. I got a facial oil blend made up locally last year of 10%, tamanu oil, 20% cranberry seed oil, 30% jojoba oil, and 40% camellia seed oil. I recently ran out of it and had the formula tweaked some to be a little bit lighter so it’s now 5% tamanu oil, 25% cranberry seed oil, 30% rosehip oil, and 40% camellia seed oil. I’m still experimenting with it. Not sure what I think about it yet. I read recently that rosehip oil might lead to more sebaceous filaments which I already struggle with so we’ll have to see what happens. I’m slightly nervous about that choice now. While I have grown to love the smell of the tamanu oil, I’m partly thinking about dropping it from the blend and focusing more on the cranberry seed oil and camellia seed oil, with maybe argan in a smaller amount or perhaps a different oil altogether (they don’t have squalane or I’d ask for it). My 10ml bottle did last me a while so I think I will have a while before the new one is used up, unless I really don’t like it...in which case I can probably use up quickly in the bath, in my hair as a treatment, or on my body and reformulate a new blend.

Purito sleeping pack is definitely not light weight it's very heavy like toothpaste just like the Lrp Cicaplast not quite as heavy as that but it's not light weight at all and it's not hydrating at all. It's very occluisve though I've been wearing it every night and I don't like it at all so far it makes my face so heavy and hot and stiff. Reminds me of how CeraVe cream used to make me feel Am I doing something wrong ? Is it supposed to make your face hot and smothered ?

Hey Kelly, we’re going to have to hold a 40k party soon!! Thank you for going over sleeping packs. I guess I’ve been doing this for a Long time and didn’t know it. I usually only do this in winter, but after my serums/treatments I’ll seal it all in with a thicker moisturizer + whatever facial oil I have on hand. I do have the Good Molecules Rosehip oil right now. I also have the brand Acrive Argon, argon oil drops. This oil is formulated to go into your skin 6x deeper than normal argon oil. For moisturizers I really liked the Isntree HA Moisturizer. To top it off I mist my face with whatever facial mist I have on hand. I let that soak in a bit and apply my sunscreen. I've tried sleeping packs in place of my moisturizer and it never worked for my skin type so definitely on top works better! (always feel free to experiment, there is no wrong way just the ways that do or don't work for you). It depends on the products you're using but sleeping packs on top of moisturizer is usually more protective compared to oils. (oils add moisture but not always occlusivity)

Hey Kelly, how can you differentiate the "feel" of both hydration and moisturization? What exactly are you feeling for hydration alone and then moisturization?

The easiest way to understand it is hydration = water and moisture = oil. Hope that helps!
@jeneeesaisquoi3 жыл бұрын
@@KellyDriscoll thanks kelly. I understand that, but I find it difficult to "feel" hydration when it is masked by moisture. It's easy to feel it when it's a toner or essence alone, but I don't know how to differentiate the two when both of them are in the same product.
@KellyDriscoll3 жыл бұрын
I think it just comes with time and experience, tuning into the product and how your skin feels. Also understanding that different skin will react/respond differently, I have dehydrated skin so I can tune in more to what products help feed my skin with with water. Tuning instincts come with time.

that isntree hyaluronic mask is interesting given that it's called a hyaluronic mask but the largest hydrating ingredient is beta glucan plus it has trehalose! there are multiple forms of hyaluronic acid, but there's obviously way more variables than hyaluronic acid that add to how hydrating this sleeping mask is... it could easily be called a beta glucan mask but it wouldn't be as widely recognized, so I understand marketing it as a hyaluronic acid mask. It has a lot of good stuff in it! I normally wouldn't gravitate towards things marketed as hyaluronic acid-centric products but this has way more to offer! This is definitely on my radar 🧐
