I’m so glad I came across your video. I’m making my grandson an afghan. I started different stitches just to frog them. I finally found your video. I’ve already done a couple of inches. Then I’ll make one for my granddaughter and finally one for mommy and daddy. This pattern is so pretty, and easy! My husband, and I, decided all 3 afghans will be the same stitch! With your instructions, about the size of the hook as well, I think I’m be making 3 master pieces! 😁 Thank you so very much for your direction and explanations about the yarn and hook. Perfection. 👏🏼

2:49 I have been making a similar striped afghan, changing colors every row. One side is lined up perfectly the other not so. Is there a way to manually decrease some of the beginning row edges to line up evenly with the others? I plan on putting an edge around the entire afghan.
@epena2805
@epena2805 11 ай бұрын
@valeriekeith44081 Sounds like you are missing stitches somewhere along the row. Two hints: put a stitch marker in the first stitch & last stitch on each row. A short piece of scrap yarn will work. Count the stitches as you complete each row. Every row should always be the same number as you had after finishing your Single Crochet base row. I know, I know - it’s a real pain.! But I still do this with each new project until I am sure I have it down-pat and that’s 50++ years of crocheting. The stitch you are likely missing is the slip stitch as it is hard to see. Try working it a bit looser each time. Also, it is easier to remember that with each new row worked you will be putting a Half Double into the Slip stitch and a Slip Stitch into the Half Double on the row below. If you are having trouble seeing the Slip Stitch gently pull your work to the side - the Slip Stitch is the one with a tiny little V. Tilt your work toward you & you will see the sideways teardrop of the Slip Stitch. That is where you insert your hook to make the Half Double. If you are still having difficulty, search KZbin with the phrase “crochet Crunch Stitch” (that’s the more common name). My early projects came with a lot of frogging (rip it, rip it, rip it all out). I know you CAN do this.!!!

@kellyreneeveryday I totally agree with you. My daughter brought one over and some yarn to teach me a new stitch. When I tried her Susan Bates crochet hook, I was stunned at how much better I liked it than mine of the same size. It handles like a charm. I just recently replaced all of my own Boye hooks out for the Susan Bates hooks! And the funny thing was that she didn't even know that she had a SB hook, nor where it came from! 😂 We all learn from each other ❤

You are so right about having aspirations for making an afghan! However, I became so frustrated in trying to follow tutorials…until I watched your clear, easy to follow teaching. The beautiful Canon afghan drew me in, and from there, your patience in slowly, repeatedly showing where to put a stitch. Your calming manner and joy in your work make me once again ready to create as well. Thank you!!

@@kellyreneeveryday my sides are not even and I have to take the whole thing apart. I've been so careful to start with a half double and end with a slip stitch!! Why does this happen?

@@claudiacollier1350 put a stitch marker in your last stitch on each row…that last stitch is hard to see because it’s coming around the corner….don’t get discouraged, it’s part of learning and it happens to us all….💕

The reason you chose Susan Bates hooks (the shape of the head) is the exact reason I have heard people say they did NOT prefer these hooks. Hook design is very personal. It depends on the crocheter’s style and possibly the yarn!

So true! I find Susan Bates works well on worsted, acrylic yarns... not so great with cotton. So, yes, personal choice and other factors play into it as well. Thank you for watching and commenting!!

This was the best instructional demonstration of crocheting. I especially like that you showed how to determine what the first stitch and the last stitch of the row the row is. I have a hard time with that. Your camera was perfectly positioned. I think I’ll try a baby blanket with that stitch. I will be looking at your other videos for sure. Thank you. PS. Beautiful manicure.
