I am amazed Kelsey was able to find a question to answer in that monologue, I couldn't 😅

Did you skip the first minute of the video? Kelsey asked the question, not Dave.

Here's what I would like to challenge. I clicked on your video to hear the great Kelsey Hightower and I'm faced with a 7 minute monologue that comes through as you trying hard to say nicely something that you disagree with. But this comes from a previous chat so I have no idea what you are referring to. And your fear to come through as disrespectful makes it so that you don't get to the point of what is that you don't like, and there's not a single question in those 7 minutes. So I don't know what to make of this exchange except that Kelsey is totally right. You can argue all you want about what is more true to the nature of the network, but at the end of the day we are here to solve problems, and if a rails monolith solves the problem and makes you money, discussion is over.

Yeah, I love Dave's channel and value his opinions. But this is just a weirdly chosen excerpt that made me wonder why he went to the trouble of inviting a guest just to give him someone to talk at. We all have bad days.

> at the end of the day we are here to solve problems, and if a rails monolith solves the problem and makes you money, discussion is over that seems not to be the point of the conversation and also not a point of disagreement between the two what seems to be going on is that dave farley is proposing that a higher level of abstraction would be a good idea and gives "stateful serverless" as an example of what this abstraction could be. kelsey hightowers response is not a direct answer but in the end states that app engine was something with a higher level of abstraction in this problem space but it lacked connections to tech that people were used to (linux, sql, etc). where they both seem to agree is that it's nice that networking and similar plumbing can be abstracted away to a certain degree and that one of the central pain points that clouds solve is to provide this for you.

Very interesting thoughts, Dave. It made me wonder what are your opinion about Erlang & Elixir because what you described are very common there at the language level, what I believe to be the best level of abstraction for those things since everything built above it will have such traits.

"The biggest challenge is adoption" ^ that... and also rejection of some other new things and ideas.

Kelsey says an HTTP only strong consistency is THE over arching all solving model of the world? Well, no
