Horticulture grad class of 99 here. I transferred to Tech after spending 2 years (91-93) at West Virginia Wesleyan, a small liberal arts school of about 3000 after finding myself. Coming to a huge state school of 25,000+ was an adjustment, but living in Vawter for a semester (spring 94) helped before moving off campus to College Park (now it’s called something different) with 2 guys from the dorms. Think of being at Tech as like having 25,000 members in your family. For the incoming freshman I’d highly recommend living on campus for a year THEN moving off. It’s a great way to meet people and experience college life. Plus you can walk down the hall to your friends and not have to bear the cold winds of the drill field. Good luck and Go Hokies!

I attended VA Tech from 1990-95. I was part of the party crowd. The food was terrible back in 1990. I was thrilled in 1992 when Owen's food court opened. Drinking 🍻 beer and going to frat parties was #1 for me. I am Gen X. That's what we did. I did do summer school twice and it was so laid back. I rode the bus to parties. Awesome tips!

@thekelsg2 жыл бұрын
A part time job on campus is definitely doable! I worked about 10-15 hours a week as a graphic designer for student engagement and campus life. For my major it was still doable. It’s also a great way to meet new people outside of your major! Just make sure it’s something you can take on on top of your major. Hope this helps

Did you live on campus when you transferred? Did you choose to live off campus or was it not an option? Your videos are really helpful! I'm hoping to transfer too!
@thekelsg5 жыл бұрын
Hi Daniela! I transferred in the summer so I was living on campus just for two months. Then I lived off campus. I believe I could live on campus only if I was an RA. On campus housing is currently very limited due to the influx of people coming to tech! However, living off campus is really great! Because the bus system pretty much goes everywhere, it makes it easy to get around even when you’re off campus. If you can live on campus for a bit it might be helpful just to get used to everything but no worries if you can’t!
@danielasanchez29035 жыл бұрын
KelseyG That’s great! Thanks for replying! My main concern is if its hard to make friends and meet people because of not living in a dorm? Most of the time, people have already established their group of friends and who they hangout with. So I’m wondering if living off campus as a transfer student makes it more difficult... 😬

What gpa do I need to get it ? I’m out of state btw? Thanks
@thekelsg3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately It depends on many things beside just a number. I’m sure they look at everything (other scores, letters of rec, list of achievements etc) I had a 3.6 in HS if I remember correctly but I wouldn’t just based it off of that. Like if you don’t have that, don’t worry.

have you lied, stolen, used God's name in vain, or lusted after someone (which God sees as adultery)? if so, you have broken God's law, the ten commandments, and have sinned against God. The Bible says in Romans 6:23 that the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Put your trust in Jesus Christ, His death paid the debt for YOUR sins. Trust in Jesus, and He will give you eternal life, a free gift from God that can't be achieved or gotten by works!!
