Great suggestions. For the outlet covers, the existing ones can be painted. They just need a light sanding to rough up the surface. That's what I did before those paintable covers were available. Updating lights, cabinet hardware, and door hinges and knobs really does make a difference.

For towels, wash them with baking soda and vinegar. This will usually brighten them and get rid of the dingy color. In my bathroom I am using a sugar bowl and creamer pitcher for Qtips and toothbrush, paste, etc. I wasn’t using them in the kitchen and didn’t want to go buy something.

@@seedabeauty I use it all. Detergent, about 1 cup baking soda, and 1 cup white vinegar. I don’t do it every wash. But I do frequently add the baking soda to my whites with the detergent.

Depends on the window. Actual frosted glass intended for bathrooms is indeed very opaque. But great heads up to check if they really work! 😂

Excellent tips! I really appreciate the toilet handle tip - I'll be doing my bathroom later this year and switching to brass fixtures, so this one was good to know. So many never think about it and just settle for the cheap chrome one that it comes with it. Yes - on the house numbers - not only looks better but also for emergency concerns. If there's an emergency, you want 1st responders, to find the house as quickly as possible. If you have a curb side mail box, put large numbers on there for the same reason and on the house. You have a lovely home!

I tried to change my deadbolt lock which was separate from my door handle. The two had a different finish and I wanted them to match. Unfortunately the dead bolt had a different diameter than what is now standard. It’s very hard to bore a larger hole than what is there now so instead I went and bought some oil rubbed bronze spray paint. I wasn’t sure how it would hold up since I open and lock that door everyday and I was spraying moving parts. But I did it about 5 years ago and it’s held up beautifully without a single chip anywhere.

Don't paint your outlet covers while leaving the centers of them white. That looks terrible! You can buy paintable covers that go over the entire outlet (or switch, as applicable). That way, the entire thing will be painted and you won't see an ugly white switch or outlet in the center, that is surrounded by another color of paint on the cover plate.

It takes me 30 minutes to hang a couple of pictures! Don’t think I’ll tackle mounting my tv on the wall (find the studs, LEVEL the mount, mark, screw, drill big old holes in the wall to hide the now-exposed cables, patch, paint…). That would take me a day at least. And my tv looks just fine on the chest where it is. I’ll use that time on other projects!

I agree with the towels. Rag out those faded old towels, use them for car cleaning and drying. Buy new towels at Thanksgiving time Black Friday the best deals. I’ve gotten my family towels for Christmas gifts. ❤ the wire tape on your window. Thinking it will get gooey with the heat of the sun. Good idea, just maybe a different tape. Maybe something waterproof with condensation and cleaning them. Great simple ideas. ❤
