Personally, I have no issue with the UK having a Black Prime Minister as it's nice to see history being made and glass ceilings shattered. Putting aside the ethnicity of the Tory Leader, it's the Tory Party that should be the focus here. This is a Party that has fallen far from it's founding principles and the CURRENT iteration of the Tories, like their MAGA counterparts in the US is only interested in power, and the uses to which power can be put to benefit their backers and their powerful and wealthy supporters. Not that the Tories, even at their founding ever had the interests of the people in mind. Vested Interests lie at the heart of the Tory Party (as it does also in Labour, and in the Liberal Democrats, or ANY organized group of people) and the Tories will always serve first, their vested interests.
@CheeseToastie-f1x
@CheeseToastie-f1x 3 ай бұрын
That's literally the opposite of what the MAGA movemant represents in USA. It's working class and middle americans wrestling the party from the ground up from the "country club" coporate Republicans of old. That's why Trump has so much resistance from the giants of the party and the entire establishment. Because he's anti war machine and, at least initially, self funded. You couldn't be further from the truth

I feel some of these lot are delusional or just attempting to avoid argument if they think race is only important for 1% of the general electorate. Race has been important in all countries throughout the history of man for significant proportions of the population, especially within the UK. For those delusional enough to think otherwise just look at Brexit. London is not representative of the UK, and Rishi wouldn’t have been voted in if it were down to the general electorate. On race and ethnicity I feel these commentators missed a really important point. They talked about a small number of people possibly not voting for her based on Nigerian origins. This misses the point for me. I find part of her appeal is proving to the left that solid conservatism (in particular the stance on population change) doesn’t characterise people as “far right white British thuggery”. She is extremely articulate when describing the nuance and hi-res thinking around the topics of nationalism, immigration , citizenship. Agree or disagree, she elevates the political debate to the more informed position we so desperately crave. To do that as a black woman with Nigerian heritage is an engaging characteristic.

They don’t have the profound hatred the Yanks have. Look at Barack Obama. Probably the best U.S. President since Kennedy. Yet look how many hate him, simply because he was Black and did a better job than any white man in over 50 years. If Obama was a P.M. with a great record. Firstly, Kemi has a tendency to go down rabbit holes about WOKE issues, such as transgender and people with special educational needs being treated differently and being given equipment to carry out educational tasks. Secondly, in Saffron Walden, Kemi nearly lost her seat. It is is in the top ten of safest Conservative seats in the country and has been safe for one hundred years. She totally blew Alan Haselhurst's huge majority. Either the research for this discussion was wanting or no-one though these issues were relevant.

Kemi is just slimy and angry, I can't even bare to listen to her. Then again, I would never vote conservative in the future, it's not the party my mother used to vote for, they care more about scapegoating and pointing fingers than actually caring about the general populace.

This was the best possible outcome for Labour. Tories have conceded the middle ground for the next election already. They could be the 3rd party by then.

History tells us that the Tories will eventually get back in. Bedenoch in my view will not become PM. The next Tory PM is not even an MP yet; they get elected during a second term in opposition. The other factor that some other comments have mentioned is that the right wing vote is split between the Tories and Reform UK. Both of these points taken together mean that, unless something happens that we cannot forsee, the Tories will be out for a very VERY long time (thankfully).

Kwasi's confidence in this counntries attitude to people of colour in leadership I fear is misplaced. Rishi was never selected by the electorate. We shall see if Kemi last long enough to be put to the country. Something tells me that her colour will be a precluding factor even if she doesn't. Labour are in the mud on this issue because they haven’t even attempted. Lammy had to wait an age to get one of the top offices.

Farage has reached his high watermark with Reform. The MPs they have now are all they're going to get. They'll soon go the way of UKIP and the Brexit Party. Farage will soon see the writing on the wall and get bored with being an MP rather than a broadcaster. Tice will crash and burn and Lee Anderson will rejoin the Tories.
