Ken Cowan Plays David Conte: Christmas Intrada at Rice University

Christmas Intrada is based on the familiar tunes Ding-dong Merrily on High; Angels from the Realms of Glory; Von Himmel Hoch and Sussex Carol.
The original version for instruments alone was commissioned by the San Francisco Symphony for its annual Candlelight Choral Christmas Concert and was premiered on December 8, 1991 at Davies Symphony Hall, Vance George conducting.

A solo organ version** was premiered by David Higgs at the San Francisco Symphony's annual Christmas Pipe Dreams concert at Davies Symphony Hall on December 20, 1992.
The version for SATB Chorus was commissioned by Trinity Episcopal Church, Indianapolis, Indiana, Michael Messina, Director of Music
The version for SSAA Chorus was commissioned by The Peninsula Women's Chorus, Palo Alto, California, Patricia Hennings, Conductor
The version for TTBB Chorus was commissioned by The New York City Gay Men's Chorus, Gary Miller, Conductor; The Seattle Men's Chorus, Dennis Coleman, Conductor; and The Washington Gay Men's Chorus, James Holloway, Conductor.

Great playing and an observation unrelated to the playing. It's interesting how you really can't see any wear on the pedals in the camera shots of the pedal board. In college, the recital hall organ was less than 10 years old (five years old when I had my first lesson on it and could see the wear even then) and had obvious visible wear on the pedals in the center of the pedalboard. How is it not already visible on this instrument (or have pedals already been replaced)?

In keeping with Cavaillé-Coll�s custom in his mature periods, the present pedalboard rises in height at its extremes, giving the effect of concavity, while the sharp keys grow longer, giving the effect of radiating pedals. Therefore, the pedalboard, while straight, is not flat.
