Speaking of the ole M80 and M90 I was in Kansas years ago. I brought a bunch over here. Ive had them say 17 years. I got mad at some squirrels just to scare them off. I lit the dang thing a boom. Federal law now limits the grains of powder in firecrackers. Therefore from my understanding of it, even certain countires cannot make firecrackers that powerful to sell. But would be nice to be wrong...also since I live in california, cannot legally have firecrackers!

I had a deputy friend bring me some m1000's and although louder than a regular firecracker, when opnned to inspect they were pack inside with only paper wadding and the firecracker was as small as the ones they call lady fingers.

The salesman was pulling your chain. No matter what name they are given, a legal firecracker in the US can only contain a maximum of 50mg of flash powder. Real M-80s had 3.5g, 35x the max allowed in a modern firecracker. Their "m-1000" wont even break skin, much less blow your fingers off. The real deal is still out there, but the last place you will find it is at a TNT fireworks stand. That company, along with Phantom Fireworks, are actively lobbying the CPSC to put even more ridiculous restrictions on consumer fireworks. If you like buying loud and vibrantly colored fireworks, they are the last people you should give your money to.

I've never gone after a waiver, but they do seem to be clamping down on them for some reason. Only advice I can offer is to develop a relationship with your local FAA guy. Maybe send him/her a fruit basket? --No wait... That's a bribe.

Hey Ken, Please shed some light on droning a firework event.

In the USA the FAA won't allow night flights anymore. You can film at a very dark dusk though. Also, don't get too close to the ordinances! I know it LOOKS cool with the fireworks flying past, but just one hit, and you're finished. I've filmed four fireworks celebrations and each time underestimated the reach of the rockets. Fly safely!!

I heard they give special authorization to fly at night if supported with valid reason(not sure if 4th of July fireworks is a valid reason). You should have got that so that we all could have enjoyed a firework feast.
