This is an introductory session and is designed for newcomers to the Knowledge Equity Network.
This session will introduce the Knowledge Equity Network (KEN) and the Declaration on Knowledge Equity, along with an overview of the key concepts of Open Education and Open Research.

Gino Fransman
Founder and Project Leader Open Education Influencers, Nelson Mandela University.
Gino Fransman is the founder of the Open Education Influencers project (openedinfluenc...) at Nelson Mandela University in South Africa.
He is the current Africa Hub Coordinator for the UNESCO Open Education for a Better World [OE4BW] program, plus both a mentor and previous project author in the program. His highly collaborative Open online course is titled Becoming an Open Education Influencer (BOEI). BOEI is a student empowerment and advocacy tool for innovation in education through Open available on the Nelson Mandela University Open Engage LMS.
Gino is a member of the OE4BW Advisory Board and the recent 2021 winner of the Open Education Global Emerging Leader Award (awards.oegloba.... He is also an independent member of Open Education Global.
Gino is a Key Partner of the Knowledge Equity Network (KEN) who has been integral to the establishment of the Network since speaking at its inaugural summit in November 2022.

Antonio Martínez-Arboleda
Senior Lead for the Knowledge Equity Network (KEN).
Originally trained as a lawyer, in 1998 Antonio started to teach at the University of Leeds, where he is also currently Academic Lead for Open Educational Practice and Co-director of the Centre for Digital Research in Education.
He has taught courses on digital literacy for open practice for a variety of academic international audiences and has directed projects including developing open educational resources, podcasting for students, poetry translation and employability for students.
Antonio has delivered keynote speeches at conferences in Japan, Brazil, Spain, Greece, Czech Republic and Mexico.
As an academic and educator, he has 25 years’ experience of teaching, research and leadership. His latest research, with publications in English and Spanish, focuses on student audio-visual feedback.
