Such a great influence on me and my brother in our childhood in the 50s. We eagerly read the cartoon stories of Fudge the Elf and Speck, his friend. Our parents bought us the annuals at Christmas. Wonderful drawing and imaginative stories. I was married to a man whose initials were FJ. I called him Fudge throughout our long marriage! I remember as a little child being taken to a bookstore in Manchester where Ken Reid was signing Fudge and Speck annuals. My brother and I were so excited that our parents had to tell us that it was not the real Ken Reid!!! Cruel of them. A man who has not had the recognition his talent deserved. Never forgotten. Taken too soon. Thank you, Ken, for the joy you gave me in my childhood.

No comments?! Well I agree with you - Ken Reid was a brilliant artist/cartoonist/illustrator. Good on you for your tribute, mate. I love the work of many of those great children's comic artists of the past, and of course most of them could turn their hand to more "serious" art with just as much accomplishment if they felt so inclined! Very, very talented fellows.

Nice to see his son Anthony. I worked with him briefly at Paragon Publicity Services in Radcliffe (1979). He was a great bloke.

As a child Faceache, Frankie Stein and World Wide Weirdies inspired me to draw. It wasn't until the internet came about that I found out that the artist's name was Ken Reid. I'm a book illustrator decades later now and Ken is still one of my biggest inspirations. Fantastic artist. Great little video. 🙂👍

Great! I'm in my 20s but I used to pour over my dad's old annuals as a kid and Ken Reid is a massive influence on my own art to this day, like so many British comic artists criminally under rated!
