Love the project, small projects like this and the shed are great. So you don’t have to double your work, I suggest you put the linoleum down now. Either sheet linoleum or maybe stick on squares. Then put your shelves back and start the other parts of the project.

I really like the greenhouse. You mentioned using as many screws as you would normally use for a garage. It is good that you really wanted the polycarbonate sealed and structurally sound. I agree that everything is better without the inside plastic. Once it is outside, y ou might consider putting some sort of sun protection over the entire greenhouse to prevent it from getting too hot during the summer. I have seen other KZbinrs doing that with their greenhouses because the sun can literally cook the plants. Great job Ken. I really enjoy watching you work. You thoroughly explain why you are doing what you are doing, and I like that.

I like the greenhouse door with the green paint. It looks very nice. The ridge cap you made I think was a great idea. I'm glad you could bend it in your brake! I do like it without the inside plastic! It's so pretty being clear. I like that latch you put on. The door stop is great. The shelves look great in there! That black handle is nice too! I don't think you've done anything dumb. That greenhouse is so cute Ken! Thanks for this video!

You may want to think about pulling in fresh air into the greenhouse. Opening and closing the door helps but plants need a fresh source of CO2 to flourish. There are solar fans that are really cheap and they only operate during days when the sun shines and cut off at dusk. The air can be drawn in through the roof vent. A plastic barrel outside will fill up slowly at first, but rainwater will fill it completely and it can be used as a natural water source where the water can be drawn from for your proposed automatic watering. I have two such barrels outside and they have never gone completely dry after weeks of no rain. One has a faucet at the bottom the other does not. The water coming off the roof of the greenhouse can be directed to those same barrels using a simple gutter system made from SCH40 PVC cut in half that drains into another SCH40 full pipe leading to the interior of the drum(s). If you want a barrel can be placed inside the Greenhouse and it will give humidity to the plants, and you may not need to water them much depending on the humidity in your area. *One last thing, anchor the entire greenhouse or a high wind will ruin all your work. Good Luck with the post-video suggestions should you decide they would work for you. Good job so far.*

Something I used on my little greenhouse, about the same size as that one, was the transparent double walled plastic panels. They're more expensive than the clear corrugated ones, but you gain the insulation of the air gap. I painted the framing, door and floor before I put my panels up. Nice to see your little projects taking off Ken!

You would love a Kreg Pocket Hole jig. It would work so great for a lot of things in these mini builds. For example you could use it to join the door pieces instead of L brackets. Stronger, looks good and probably cheaper. Just a thought. Absolutely love these build series!

Ken, the other problem with Poly vapor barrier you didn't mention is that it doesn't stand up to UV. After one year or a little more in the sun, it becomes brittle and crumbles into little tiny pieces and makes a horrendous mess.

I was concerned about the plastic on the inside trapping moisture. Im glad you removed it. Love your ridge cap in the metal break idea. Maybe a garage floor type epoxy would be better than vinyl on the floor. Also, floor drain hole(s). Painting all of the framing that green color would have looked good. I only thought of that when I saw the finished door. I've learned a lot from you and always enjoy your videos. Thank you.

Looks good - you did a great job. I built my first greenhouse in 1960 - similar to yours - 10X16 - it started to rot within a few years - I finally salvaged all of the glass and stored it away safely. I came across an old run down greenhouse that was on the property that a friend bought. He was going to burn it - all red wood - I took a lot of it and rebuilt it on a much smaller footprint. No problems. When we moved the new owners wanted it removed - I took it and sold it to the Dedham House of Correction. Now at 94 I just use a few lights inside and the backyard sunroom with sliding doors. Just a few tomatoes, cukes, peppers and romaine. I enjoy your videos along with Gina and Al's.

The greenhouse is looking great Ken. I've been reluctant to show my Wife this build. If she sees it, she will have me going to Home Depot for materials ASAP. I'm happy to see that you decided against the inner plastic. I believe that you avoided many future headaches by leaving it off. I do like the view much more without the cloudy plastic. BTW - Please don't feel "dumb" when things need rework. Like you said "10% of construction is remodeling". In 1994 I bought an entire bundle of 2x4 lumber , it was hemlock and I paid .99 cents per 8 ft 2x4, first project was the twin to your green house … used the same type of poly carbonate .. and it’s still cranking out the veggies .. I put window on the rear eve about. 12 inch square for vent and just put a box fan hanging from a nail .. I close it up at night and by 10 am open the door and the vent window for pollinators to enter If she gets to warm I turn on the fan

Ken, Being a cabinet builder, I would of used half lap joints on the door. Or a double horizontal piece to cover the joints for strength. Also I would have used treated lumber and plywood for the base and floor, and also paint the frame. Also maybe drill some holes in the floor by the back end and raise the door end up higher for drainage.

This build has been an absolute blast to follow along with. The framing you completed would allow for the plastic film to serve on the exterior for those looking for an inexpensive solution, but I like the poly best (more long term, more rigid, less wind noise). Removing the film from inside was a wise choice, in this case. Thank you so much for your humbleness. I know I respect you and I'm sure many others would agree. Can't wait til you get the water catchment worked out and we get to see the 'green' inside the greenhouse. God bless

Cute little greenhouse! If the sun is too strong, just throw some shadecloth over top I know the roof vent is to allow heat to escape but what do you think about having closable vents at both gable ends for cross ventilation and air circulation. Anyone would love to have this in their backyard!

Just a pointer here. In order for that roof vent to let out hot air you will need to have cool air to replace it. Depending on location in the yard you may want a gable end vent just for the cross ventilation of warm air up top. That may be enough to keep out very cold night air on a frosty evening. A solar fan may also keep the hot air from stratifying under the roof on sunny days. IOW, even out the temps from top shelf to bottom shelf. The solar panel can be mounted inside so no extra building penetrations. Mount the fan up high to push the warm air down. That could be handy on the shoulder season when the vents are closed.

Ken, I really enjoy your channel and have watched it for a long time. You are an extremely good carpenter and you are not dumb. I built a similar greenhouse 2 years ago. As mentioned in some of the other comments I had trouble with UV on the polycarbonate. Where I live we also have occasional hail. After the first summer, the poly was very brittle and a small hail storm completely destroyed the roof and even put some holes in the walls. I put galvanized sheet metal on the roof and now rely on the south and west sun to grow the plants. It also doesn’t get as hot inside anymore. Keep up the good work, and enjoy your retirement. I recommend it to everyone I talk to.

Like the greenhouse. I woud add a screen window in the back wall and also make the door screened. In the summer that greenhouse will turn into a hothouse (oven) and cook your plants. Cross ventilation will help that. Not sure that ridge vent will be sufficient.

I'd have to say, my concern would also be with condensation on the untreated wood, so it really is a double edged sword. But I will also say your biggest environmental stress on your plants will be too much heat and not enough ventilation spring, summer and fall. My rule of thumb is the smaller the greenhouse the harder it is to manage the heat. You'd be better off using season extension frost blankets on your plants in lower temperatures, which you will have to manage manually but would be more esthetically pleasing.

I RV full time. My camper has a "fantastic fan". Reason I mention that is because it's a very useful 12v fan, uses almost no energy and has a thermostat. You can set that thermostat for whatever is too hot, and it will vent until it gets down to the right temperature and will come back on when it gets too hot again. You could put nothing more than a 12v solar panel to run it. No battery storage necessary unless you think you'll be getting damaging night time temps. You will have to initially fiddle with the thermostat to figure out what setting is what temperature. Oh, it also has about 4 or 5 fan speed settings. The new ones have like 14 speeds all remotely controlled.

I agree with removal of plastic. Too many negatives to it. A window would be nice for ventilation along with the roof vent.

Looking real nice Ken! Looking at the cap you cut for the peak, I was visualizing flipping it over, making clear gutters for below the roof's edge & drained back into the greenhouse as free water...You may have already mentioned something to this effect, I don't remember... Bill...

I think you should have painted the framework before putting on the plastic. There will some moisture between the frame and the plastic.

Love the look. I'm a bit worried about the polycarbonate being able to prevent racking over time. Any plans to do some cross bracing?

How did your inside greenhouse die? Really sorry to hear that, so much work! I still don't understand where the makeup air will come in for the exhaust fan to work. Might want a few low wall operable vents? It will get really hot in there even on a sunny spring or fall day not to mention summer. Might want a thermostat to run the fan.

Nice looking finished house Ken! Is the point of this design to set the structure in a shady location? Or were you cutting in some gable vents later on? Set your home oven to 135 degrees, set in a young seeding, and time how long it takes for the young seedling to turn crispy. Just thinking outside your box. -Bob...

I love your creation! As a novice carpenter, you gave me the inspiration that I could possibly attempt such a project! Two questions: 1) What hand tool did you use to cut the poly carb? 2) Did you use rubber washers, with the screws, to attach the panels?
@kenskarpentry

I used regular tin snips, and the screws had rubber washers on them

Nice! Proof that a small structure doesn't need an engineered plan just to do a small but maybe important job. I would wonder just how well all the unpainted 2x4's will do in a presumably moist environment. We'll see, shall we?

Good Tuesday morning Kens Karpentry .... the greenhouse looks fabulous👍🏻 I also think that the heat that would have been trapped between the sheeting and plastic would have been harder to dissipate quickly if you needed to do so. But what do I know .... I've been stripped of my "green thumb" status due to mediocre vegetable production🤣🍅🫑🥒🧄🥕🥦🌶🤛🏻, nor is this --->🦶🏻😂 Take care Ken, family & Kaiya🐕🔨✏📐🪚☃👣
