I used to live where winters are like that. I moved a very long way away from it four years ago, and never want to go back to that much snow again. Far too hard to go anywhere, even though I was born and raised in the same place, lived there for 64+ years. Just no way I could deal with that again, no matter how beautiful it appears on screen.

I still enjoy this movie, even after all these years since I first saw it. For those who complain about how the science is all wrong, I can only say this: I watch movies for the fun and enjoyment, not the science. If I wanted the science, I'd watch a documentary. Actually, I like documentaries too, but not all the time. They have their time and place, but sometimes you just need to suspend reality for awhile.

You make it sound like it's impossible to write a fun, enjoyable movie that doesn't get at least the basic science wrong. This is far from the truth. It's simply writer laziness, pure and simple. I'm going to guess with this strong defence of ignorance that you're American, so consider, if you will, a movie intended to be taken seriously that has cowboys riding their horses down on Wall Street and getting into shootouts with gun-slinging bankers … pitched as a *serious* drama. One where everybody spoke with, say, a Kentucky accent and where the only food anybody ever ate was some form of burrito. How long would your ability to "suspend reality" last? (Hint: no matter what you claim, you likely wouldn't last longer than five minutes.) You would (rightly!) say that the writers of that movie should have opened a book at least once in their lives before writing. Same applies to basic science.

I TOTALLY AGREE with you, Melanie. Although I did go up the mountains in Jasper, Alberta I just couldn't make myself look down at the city because I'm so terrified of heights. I went through the Sulphur cave and relaxed in the warm Sulphur water. This was better than any message I could ever have had. In the winter you go under the water, come up and within seconds your hair becomes full of ice. In the summer, I'm not so brave. I don't go to the top of the mountain because of the hot summer fires. You want to be down near the road to be ready to get away.

Love the movie, I've watched it a dozen times or so & I seem to catch something I had missed before. The one thing that should've told those mountain rescue personal that something was really wrong was the dead wildlife! Racoons hibernate in the winter & to find them dead in the snow would've told somebody who knows about wildlife that something was seriously wrong on the mountain. And when that mountain happens to be a Volcano you should really start RUNNING! It's what I studied in college & Volcano's are no joke what so ever! A very well acted movie & I've always have been a fan of both Cynthia Gibb & Brian Kerwin. Also had Don Davis from the Stargate SG1 series too.

Lol, I was on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen... at first. Then when she's like "let's combine an avalanche with a lava flow," I thought, well, that's it; they'd be dead. Of course, in real life (assuming trajectory of flow was correct, and I don't see how it could've been), they would've had very little time before the pyroclastic flow hit them - much less than 20 minutes.

Good movie. Don't know how I missed seeing it before. I've seen almost every English language disaster movie, and some foreign language ones too. I'm addicted to disaster movies. This one came out the same year as Dante's Peak, which had a few bigger stars, so I guess it overshadowed this movie. I saw Dante's Peak on TV years ago. I've been evacuating people down the man w/ any/all vehicles, as far as the road was open, then sledding/travoising/snowmobiling past the blockages ASAP. The threat was above them, & liquids (water, lava, lahars (a mix, usually, especially when there's snow that'll melt in the heat) flow downhill, so getting off the mtn &/or onto a nearby hill/mtn, so you won't be in the flow should be the goal. Esp for those who can move, who were many. Staying in place seems to be the worst choice, considering their proximity to the threat above/around them. I know, it's just a movie, but knowing how fast some lavas can flow, I wouldn't stick around like these characters did.

Wonderful movie. This 1977 film. Lot better than the movies recently released, like ARTIC ACAPOLYSE. 👍 THANK U 4 THE QUALITY UPLOAD 💖

Wow! Great movie, thank you so much!! 🙋💜✝️❤️🇺🇸 Better than cable.
Looking at this today I keep thinking of Mammoth Mountain and the scare they had just 5 years after this film was made. Even just recently there's been a lot of quakes around there. Hope fiction remains just that! 😳😳😳. Good film and upload thanks Films 4 You 👍👍👍👍

I do not like when some people do not listen. They do when it is too late.

Wow great movie!! The very beginning was hard to watch when she fell. It was sad but at the same time I sat there saying you shouldn’t have gone down the trail. I really thought the wife was going to survive by a hair and she was going to let authorities know what happened. 😢 Great quality and very wholesome!

The scenery is so beautiful! 🌲🌨❄️⛷🏔 Makes me want to go on a mountain vacation and stay in a lodge or cabin (preferably not anywhere near a volcano🌋). The story was good too. Enjoyable movie and one that I’d recommend. 👍

It's a decent movie. I have one serious gripe. There is no way in hell you could walk on a log over flowing lava. It's molten rock.... think 1200 C or 2200 F. OK. You are not walking over that and not having issues with the heat below you.

At that temperature the log should have been on fire!

Was 1997 the year of the volcano. We had this with a Pierce Brosnan lookalike. Volcano with Tommy Lee Jones and Dante's peak with the real Pierce Brosnan. A bit more Dante's Peakish than Volcano.
