Great video guys that sure is a great looking Angus Bull. Just a quick question why do you use horned bulls instead of polled bulls you are passing the horn genetic’s on to your calves. Here in South Central Kentucky you rarely see a Hereford Bull most are Angus.

Only 10-15% of the calves will come out with horns. Majority of our calves are a terminal cross to be sold as 800lb feeders so they won’t be sorted off at a discount. The breeder we use likes the ruggedness and performance of horned Herefords.

You really should consider AI. It's not that difficult and you will see the difference in the calves.

Most of our calving seasons have 70+% of calves born in the first 21 days. Our calves perform better than almost any of the calves we buy from sale barns and our because we calve in the spring and fall our bulls stay busy breeding 6 months of the year rather than just standing around. AI has its benefits in some operations but for labor and cost savings we like our bulls.

I have no idea why anyone would breed with a horned Hereford bull. You get docked at the sale barn or you have to dehorn them. You do have a very nice looking Angus bull and I hope he covers all your heifers.

That’s what I say also here in South Central Ky everyone I know use a Polled Bull and very few Hereford bulls mostly Angus bulls

Our Baldy calves outweighed the our all black calves by 30-50 lbs at weaning for the couple years we had them side by side. With the current genetics of our cows we only have to dehorn about 10-15% of the calves. Majority are still born polled. So it’s a very cost effective cross! The only reason I went back to having a single angus bull is because the heifers he’s breeding will already have some hybrid vigor in their genetics. And yes, to decrease the chance of the 2024 calves having horns.

First. Thank you for responding back Kendal. This makes me love what you guys do even more. I definitely didn’t expect this. Your explanation makes sense. We used to raise Herefords and would get a occasional horned one and take a beating at the sale barn if you didn’t dehorn it but we switched to black Angus because we were averaging 25 to 35 cents higher per pound for black cattle over the red cattle. I do like the baldes. Keep up the great work and Thanks again for responding back.

What’s wrong with the old one? Must be making all kinds of money. Why Don’t you AI your cows ? So I’ve always been told black cows will sell for more than red. Is that not true? Why do you roll the corn? The hay isn’t ground to make it easier for the cattle to digest ?
