With that said, I also agree in parents just teaching their kids to contribute to the household without expecting money. @@kittycaruso50 average maid makes $10 an hour, which is minimum wage in some states. if u worked full time as a housekeeper, you’d make roughly $1,300 a month. (after taxes of course) after bills, feeding urself and ur depends, gas, etc. that $1,300 will most likely drop down to $5, possibly even less, possibly even down to pennies. so i don’t think my dad played me, i think he really prepared me for the world. he taught me if i wanted something, i had to work really really hard to get it, and for a really long time. i’ve applied that to many real life scenarios.

Kids have no idea of what time actually means for example when you’re young a school year feels like a decade but the older you get a decade seems shorter and shorter. Making her do things over a week vs a day is still really the same lesson.

I love Bruce's method. I told my sister I wanted to give my nieces an allowance for doing their chores, getting good grades, etc. We grew up in a black household where we cleaned cause we lived there and didn't pay bills😂 but we decided to show my nieces a different way to get our points across. Working hard and earning your own money at a young age not only teaches appreciation and respect for what you have but it also teaches the value of a dollar earned vs a dollar given. Bravo, Bruce! He really tried to show the girls the way.

I had to keep mine clean for free. One time it was dirty and my mom invited the neighbor over to see it. Embarrassment drove me to keep things presentable. I didn't have an allowance, if I wanted something I had to ask for it and the answer was usually "no".
