I've always craved salt and eat it liberally. When I was a child I would salt ham, my mom was aghast, lol. My BP is normally low and my RHR is around 70. I used to have orthostatic hypotension when I was a young woman, and I ate more salt to try to combat it. I had surgery in June and my Na, K and Cl were normal. I'm almost 64. Thank you Dr. Berry and Dr. Dinicolantonio for good common sense research.

Had an uncle. Passed a few years ago. Salted everything. Apples, cucumbers, peanut butter, everything. Everyone told him he'd have a stroke or heart attack. Well...even with COPD he outlived his two siblings who were the loudest critics of his salt consumption. One didn't make it to 60. The other didn't make it to 65. He made it to 87.

I took care of my mother for several years before she passed. She had type 2 diabetes and bad swelling in her feet and lower legs. Her doctors kept telling me to limit her salt because of the swelling. I literally took all salt out of her diet, per their advise, and all the while she was craving and begging me for salt. I talked to her kidney doctor, the last doctor she saw, about her cravings and he told me to not give into her because it would be harmful for her. Five days later my mother passed away. The kidney doctor called me two days after her death and said I needed to bring her in ASAP to have another blood test done because her sodium level was dangerously low and they needed to make sure this was true. I told him I couldn't do that, he said " you don't understand this could be life threatening", I told him I couldn't bring her in because she had passed away two days ago. There was a long pause before he spoke and told me he was sorry. This makes me so furious I can't even believe it. 😢

The maximum amount recommended by OMS for an adult is about a teaspoon or 5 grams. My recommendation to anybody is to do bloodwork and general analysis at least once a year. Your body will indicate if you need more or less salt. Some adults might need 8 grams a day, while others might do very well with 3.

Having salt through the day literally saved my energy levels, mental clarity, I am starting to dream again and I feel incredible. All because I used to think it was so evil because I don't even know why. Obviously don't go nuts, but start the day with a quarter teaspoon and during lunch and dinner, and reduce foods that have a high sodium intake naturally. It killed my sugar cravings too! I just watched your video on salt you did four years ago. When I was in basic training in 1969, back when we put a man on the moon, we had at our doorway in our barracks a container of salt tablets to take when we went out for training outside. We usually took 3 to six tablets, if someone decided to not take them they usually passed out and needed a medic. We didn't have the ignorrant guideline's that we have today, oh ya, we're also trying to figure out how to put a man back on the moon also....

I am trying to go off the medication, per suggestion of my doctor, but when I gradually use less, then my pressure goes up. I think it could have something to do with my body adjusting to Ketosis, instead of carbs or sucrose. Very new to Keto, about a month. My Dad always enjoyed the use of salt. He said, salt was necessary for health, whenever anyone tried to give him grief. He passed from bladder cancer at 94. I’ve recognized that my Dad had a lot of natural understanding about everything, but only now, have I begun to appreciate it. A hard head I guess.

@@Painfulwhale360 That depends. I estimate my body's need based on my energy level and carb consumption. If I'm fasting or stricter on carbs, I tend to do up to 1 tsp. At minimum, a pinch. I’ve been doing a low carb keto like diet for a while to help with my narcolepsy. Lately I was getting really lethargic, couldn’t sleep, had headaches and high blood pressure. I took magnesium and potassium supplements and I wouldn’t feel any better when at first they helped a lot. My head would get cloudy and I’d wake up feeling drunk, in a tunnel, and it was getting worse. I had started eating healthier for the last month and I was gaining weight and all of these symptoms started showing up. I wouldn’t drink water preferring tea and couldn’t seem to pin down what was going on. It was a salt deficiency, by eating healthy I had inadvertently cut out salt and was drinking tea over water because of the sodium found in it along with the sugar which was satiating the craving. Two days ago I figured this all out and I feel 100x better, all my muscles are sore which I haven’t reasoned why yet but my mind is clear and my blood pressure is down. Salt your food people.

Interestingly my grandmother (born in 1902, prior to all the modern nutritional guidelines) told me if you get cramps at night have some salt. I have done this just put salt on my hand and eaten it. You don't care about salt recomendations when you have that severe pain. It works sooo fast. Just go back to bed....no more cramps. I will be having more salt every day now. Thank you both so much for such quality nutritional information.

I’m a 34 year old male, about 15-20% BMI, high protein and clean diet. I work out regularly. My recent blood test said that I had a surprisingly high BUN of 29 in a range where the max was 20. My sodium was normal, chloride was low and potassium was perfect. I couldn’t figure out why my BUN was high, but I’ve aways tried to keep my salt low and water high. Salt added to food is corrosive to the blood vessels. Causes many hemorogic strokes each years. Asian get the most because they us so mich salt. Americans take first place for most ischemic strokes. Too much processed oil in a bottle of any kind is too concentrated to eat. But ok to eat the olive, same w/fruit. Eat the the whole thing not the juice. The fiber slows the spike in glucose. The oil is in every product in the grocery store and everything in the restaurant. It doesn't tske much to begin to coat the live but takes years, then it spills over to other organs then finally the belly as viseral fat. Good luck in your health journey

WOW! Most important video I’ve seen in a while. I remember my husband and I guiltily pouring salt over our pre-marathon breakfast years ago and wondering why we loved it so much. And yes, carb-loading never did jack for us when we marathoned.

If I have learned one thing, it is that the medical community with their obsolete guidelines that is greatly responsible for the poor health of this country. The standards of care for each area of specialization make people sicker. When I was in the Army we had salt tablets as part of our training.

I’ve been on keto for little more than five months. I’ve lost almost 40 pounds and off of every blood pressure medicine that the doctor gave me. my salt intake is 3000 - 4500 grams a day. my blood pressure this morning was 108/68. Since I’ve been on keto, my blood pressure has gone down 40 points on the high side and about 10 points on the low side. Eat more salt😁

As a child I used to eat black olives and drink the brine. Im 70 and run a low sodium all the time. It concerns me but my doctors only care about cholesterol. They don't seem to know why I run like that. I think its my water pill and I take a lot of mag for bowel health. Will now eat all the salt I want. Thank you.

As a child we had one drop of iodine on our toast each morning to avoid getting goiters... that was in northern India. Now I use Lugol's Iodine ( Canada ) with a few drops each day AND it is used for recovery and therapy of radiation sickness, which many of us might be more exposed to with 5G and other EMF.... I LOVE salty more than sweet! People gasp at how much I use... and now I know why I like it! Can you comment on the salt lamps?

Man, that was one of the best and most eye opening videos I've seen. It really makes me think about my Dad and his parents, and my mother's dad, all died of heart related illnesses. I even remember my granddad used the fake salt substitute when I was young. Disappointed, but explains some health issues, I'm dealing with.

I've been very low carb keto for 3 weeks now. One tsp of Redmonds salt with my creatine is the first thing I consume when I wake up. Mix with a bit of warm water it goes down easily. The mix provides me with all the energy I need to workout in a fasted state. I also noticed within minutes of taking the mix that it's slightly easier to breathe.

I believe this is true. I was homeschooling my daughter this morning and felt the room spin. I called my husband because I thought I would faint. I tested my blood sugar and it was fine 106. I checked my blood pressure and it was 97/50! I googled how to raise it and consuming salt was #1. I asked my husband to bring me salt and after just a small amount on my tongue I retested not too long after and it was higher and I felt better. All these diet fads (low salt, low sugar, keto, veganism etc.) can harm you. My mom and sister are vegans and I went on the bandwagon and now I'm anemic in my lab work. Cut sugars...my blood level was in the 60s. Cut salt...low blood pressure. Definitely listen to YOUR body. I believe everything is fine in moderation. I also have all of the symptoms he mentioned: Dizzy upon standing Eyelid twitching for almost a month So tired I cry

It is difficult to understand how our ancestors would have access to a higher salt diet. We've evolved over 2m years or more, most likely eating small game, deer and hog, plants that grow above the ground, chicken fish nuts and seeds. Humans didn't all live next to the sea. So if it is an essential nutrient, how did it become so if we would mostly evolve without it? The data discussed by Dr Nicolantonio is conclusive, we clearly have better health with increased salt intake, compared with current guidelines. Great presentation thank you.

We didn't evolve without it. It is essential for optimal health. It is said that our hunter/gatherer ancestors got the sodium they needed by eating sodium rich organs of game they slaughtered.

About 2 years ago I was flushing sodium out of my body in order to reduce blood pressure. To accomplish the flushing, I constantly drank water from a container in my frig and at work as well. I had been doing this for weeks. Then one day I had a serious motorcycle wreck that put me in the hospital. It only took a couple days to patch me up from the crash, but my blood pressure was found to be dangerously low. The hospital threatened to place me in ICU, but instead just kept me an extra week, in a regular room, to get my blood pressure back up to normal. To raise my BP, I was given two units of blood. That didnt work, so they attempted to put me on a daily salt tablet, but I threw those up as soon as they hit my stomach. I learned a lesson.
