Those enemies are exactly why after 40 years of morbid obesity and a series of yo yo dieting using low fat, eat less, move more, etc., I've finally gotten 2 1/2 years of success with keto and IF!!! Never before have I been able to handle those other "diets" for more than a year. 100 pounds gone! Only 30 pounds left to lose and then the rest of my life to enjoy keto! You, Neisha, Dr. Fung and others have helped more than you know. THANK YOU!!!

For me, the enemy of weight loss turned out to be the medical professionals who kept telling me to eat less and exercise more, which I was already doing, and to maintain a low fat diet. That led to weight loss failure, and weight gain over 40 years. It wasn't until I contracted Type 2 diabetes and learned that the real enemy was high insulin levels. Since then I have lost 180 pounds and no longer have numbers in the diabetes range.

This is definitely true. I have tried to convince people who need keto to give it a shot, but they often do not want to try it. I think it is strong solution aversion; they don't like the solution of giving up comfort foods so they ignore the fact that those foods are causing their health problems. I try to explain that you gain far more than you give up, but the addiction is too strong.

I am a carb addict yet after 10 months ketovore my cravings are 100% gone. These are some learnings that really helped me if anyone is struggling. 1. Avoid sweeteners, they stimulate carb cravings. 2. Don't go cold turkey with carbs, your willpower is not enough. Gradually reduce your sugar intake in line with increasing fat consumption. Allow your body to get used to a proper way of eating. This is a lifetime change, not a race. 3. Always eat until you're comfortably full. Calorie counting is your enemy. 4. Have NOTHING sweet in the house but ALWAYS have animal based foods available like home made beef patties, hard boiled eggs or oven baked lamb chops with crispy fat! It quickly becomes clear that if you feel 'hungry' but don't want to eat one of those snacks, you are not hungry, you're bored or needing an emotional crutch. Being able to tell the difference is a gamechanger. Good luck x

It would be better for everyone to realize that ift I isn't actual food yout buying. Your buying a drug. Their's a reason doctors use to perscribe chicken noodles soup for illness. Its because chicken noodles soup use to be made from real bone broth with lots of veggies and chicken and it was well known that a lack of nutrition and stress was driving forces behind illness. I cannot stress how much I love the carnivore "diet". It is the ONLY diet that has removed 100% of my cravings...from day one. I can watch my friends plough through bag after bag of potato chips (my kryptonite), and have zero desire for any. Also, carnivore is the only diet that doesn't cause me any physical discomfort; everything else causes bloating and hurts my gut. For me, my greatest enemy to weight loss is smoking Cannabis. I used to smoke it every night for insomnia (which worked far better than any pill that I'd tried), but had to give it up (reluctantly) because my head would say, "Let's eat EVERYTHING!" And I would. Not because I was hungry, or that it tasted good (usually, I couldn't taste anything), but because my mouth loved the different textures. Now, when I avoid that, and eat only meat, everything is easy-peasy.

Great video. Another way to talk about this subject is seen in this quote: "No one can exert cognitive inhibition (willpower) over a bio-chemical drive that goes on every minute of every day, of every year, it's just not possible" Dr Robert Lustig, Pediatric Endocrinologist, University of California, SF

Grocery shopping can be a pitfall for carb lovers! When I go grocery shopping there are aisles that I will not go down because they are all filled with junk food. Going down these aisles are too much of a temptation to rationalize and grab one item that you think won't hurt you because it's only one item.
@gratefulketo22114 жыл бұрын
Interesting! That’s not my experience. Those isles mean nothing to me. I do not even consider them food! In the past, they were like a “siren song”! Now they have no pull at all! I feel so lucky to have found this way of eating!

My withdrawal from sugars begs to differ with the Goofru's... I got headaches, became irritable, had problems sleeping (restless), and had serious cravings for various "Frosted" treats or tortes... Tiramisu and Dbl Fudge chocolate cake rolls with sprinkles... I honestly don't crave (or even miss) them at all. I will admit I miss a few Mint Oreo Thins with some Omega 3 enhanced milk (tastes like milk used to taste when I was a kid, organic cottage cheese and sour cream does too)... But I'll survive... I am down 80lbs since April 2020...

For me, though I am a carbaholic, I feel more like a alcoholic in that alcoholism is not short - term, its something alcoholics deal with for a lifetime. Sugar is sugar, no matter if its fermented or processed.

I've been following doctor Berry since June this year of 2020. To date, I've lost 80 pounds, restored my blood pressure - right down the middle and moved from borderline type 2 diabetes. I'm not on a diet, I've simple found out what 'real' food is and now I'm consuming 'real' food. Combined with intermittent fasting, I'm now on a 20:4 fast and it has been a super-easy journey. This is a forever thing. I suggest that anybody who can't afford to support Ken Berry on Patron, should consider allowing an ad or two to play to completion - so that he gets the revenue from that.

Great take on the subject Dr. B! For me, abstention from the carbs helps the addiction part and being fat adapted helps the true hunger part. Viewing the junk food as garbage and not food helps with the social stuff for me. The 'need sweet after meal' habit I'm still trying to conquer.

Thanks Dr. Berry for another awesome video. I think ignorant doctors/ physicians who promotes the high carbohydrate diet and think Ketogenic lifestyle is bad are also an enemy to a healthy lifestyle.

It's not just physicians spreading inaccurate information. Colleges are also pushing a plant-based diet. I understand factory farms are cruel and unhealthy, however, meat is not the enemy.

Mental comfort food during severe stressful times. I have been keto for 3 years and ketovore the past 6 months. I had a horrible stressful situation (beyond normal) and I broke down seeking comfort from food. Everything I went for didn't taste good like I remember how it used to. It didn't matter, my brain kept telling me to keep going. Finally, a week later, I got through a 24 hour fast and am still going. Hopefully a 48 hour fast. Mental is my problem.

Your video opened with a Raisin’ Cane’s commercial, lol! Now that is an issue! They are very popular here in South Louisiana with some of the best breaded fried chicken tenders and fries ever😢. It’s okay, I am not rushing to the nearest one! My biggest concern is the upcoming holidays. None of my family will be eating keto. Even the regulars are planning to cheat. I plan to cook Neisha’s cornbread dressing for me here at home but the kids and their families will be eating mama’s dressing. Yep, I am cooking SAD cornbread dressing for my family! Ah, well, if I make it through Thanksgiving and Christmas, I can do anything. Started out on keto Aug. 11 at 220 lb, blood sugar running 140-160 postprandially. A1C was 6.4. Now weighing 183, blood sugar around 100, postprandial; A1C was 5.4. I am mostly eating carnivore with an occasional veggie. Thank you Dr. Berry!

I had this problem hit me in the face... I was on keto for three years. Loss 45 lbs. I went from 215 to 170. Felt great ! Until the virus hit and coupled with taking care of family member with health problem. I'm up to 188. And sugar was definitely my escape. Should have realized this years ago. When I was at the 7- 11 I was the only guy grabbing a gallon of milk and a box of cookies. When the other guys were buying beer ! ,(lol) getting back on track but this time it's a up hill battle.

A lot of what you said does apply to me but I'm also a compulsive leader I eat out of depression I eat when I'm upset until my first husband got upset with me because I lost all but 15 lb after our child which was not quite 40 years ago now I did okay but it didn't matter what I picked up to eat I could pick up an apple and he would berate me about it you don't need that put it down after that I just kept eating and eating I've had small conquerors over the years where I lost some weight I am a type 2 diabetic now which does run in my family I do have cravings that are sometimes sugars or carbs but lately I've even had cravings just for meat just plain meat cooked of course which has confused me and isn't always the easiest thing on disability I've just recently watched your videos and I'm learning little by little thank you for all the information

I've always done well on Keto, but invariably have given up when I stalled. I heard your live stream the other night that said stalls were normal, and it totally opened my eyes. Back on keto again--two weeks into it. Hopefully I will stick with it for life this time.

My two biggest enemies are wine and peanut butter. I have managed to curb the wine to two glasses on Friday and Saturday nights and peanut butter I buy the all natural unsweetened and put a keto sweetener in it. Also keep that jar all the way in the back of the pantry. Thanks for the great video Doctor Berry, love your content.

For me, the social pressure from family is intense. They're all still following the gospel of low fat & I find I can't enjoy a meal with most of them because they spend the whole time telling me how awful keto/carnivore is, how I'm killing myself, etc. I miss the social aspect of eating with other people, but the constant negativity spoils it for me.

I just finally realized that it will be a constant battle to fight the cravings, boredom, big junk companies, family, friends and sometimes feeling sorry for myself because I do not eat starch/sugar/alcohol. I've been keto for 4 years and it does not get easier...but I have learned to ride the waves out and defeat the cravings. Just don't put it in your mouth, that's all there is to it. Do it for your best health and be strong, it's worth it. :)

I can’t fight it for 2 yrs even. If I’m still fighting in a few mos, I’ll have to stop. I don’t have the strength. My life requires all my strength I have. No extra left. I’m taking from other areas to try to get thru this now. That’s only a short term hack and then I have to give the areas back.

My failure is not being prepared to eat quality food. So I grab microwaveable junk that is prepared with lots of non-nutrient garbage. I’m getting better at being prepared even if it’s a can of tuna fish or sardines or frozen hamburger patties I can quickly prepare. After a 24 hour fast, you need to be prepared or you’ll eat anything, even junk. Thank you for helping us stay carnovore and healthy.

Sugar (all forms) is a drug. Why else do food companies put it in everything? They know it is addictive.
@Jeff.783 жыл бұрын
I consider sugar a long-term poison and a drug that is more addictive than some actual illicit drugs. Just because it tastes good, doesn't mean it's healthy and many people don't understand that or they refuse to accept it. Sugar is the real gateway drug and if you want proof, deny a toddler something sweet and watch the tantrum erupt.
