A little update. Because of the Coronavirus issue, the Hong Kong Kendo Association decided to cancel the Taikai. Looking at either KL or Jakarta to take the exam, but I actually am also considering waiting for either late this year or March next year to go to Hong Kong. Although I am caught between frustration and relief, my Sensei and I see it as an opportunity to train more to ensure a higher probability of passing. Thanks though for the encouragement and advice.

Your videos are great regardless of where they are filmed, don't worry too much about the studio thing =)

Well, I'm already planning to upgrade my bogu. I bought mine 6 years ago and the kote has fallen apart. It was a basic bogu so it packs some weight on it and I am looking at some of your premium bogus. Being a student with limited working hours isn't helping but I am aiming to upgrade my bogu at the end of this year. Thanks for making this videos. PS: I still have a kendostar bamboo bokken and it's great! It became part of my kendo journey from 1st Kyu to Sho dan and will continue to be with me until it falls apart.

Once again, thanks so much, Andy, for the terrific, informative kendo rant. With the hand-stitched men that you show in the video, what is the Bu/stitch width? And when ordering a hand-stitched bogu set, would that also be the standard stitch size? Full disclosure... slowly - very slowly, mind - getting closer to finally ordering a hand-stitched set. Cheers and thanks again.

Hey Andy, is it possible to talk about the key points to passing 1st Kyu. Then the transition to passing 1st Dan? Thanks!

Hi Andy, I will participate in Shiai in about 2 weeks, and I want to prepare my conditioning to last as long as possible during the match. I have a gym in my apartment, (which I use almost daily) and I would like to know which exercises, or what is the best non Kendo activity that I can do to be ready for Shiai. I really want to be in my best shape in order to perform my best in the Shiai ! Thank you very much for your answer!

Good day Andy Sensei. I hope you are well? I perspire profusely during practise and was wondering if I would be allowed to wear a bandana to absorb my sweat and prevent it from running into my eyes as I have little to no hair to stop it! :D When I wear bogu, my tengui and men do the job but without them I suffer. Thank you.

Hey Andy-sensei, Thank you so much for answering my previous question. I really appreciate it 🙏🏻 I have a small question regarding the kata. Since I’m self-learning kendō, can I train on the kata alone, and take the roles of both, shidachi and uchidachi?
@sergiochichi68674 жыл бұрын
You can practice the movement for your own, both sides. Thats possible. BUT to practice Kata to the fullest extent you need a partner. Otherwise it is impossible to learn for example correct (individual) maai or correct timing. Even waza like suriage or kaeshi are impossible to learn without partner. And there are a lot more elements in kata where a partner is needed (attention, continuously eyecontact, harmony etc.).
