Kudo is definitely one of the coolest martial arts Its like a mix of kyokushin, judo, grappling, and lethwei but more practical in terms of athlete safety and longevity

How about CTE though? Kudo fighter seems very aggressive because of the ruleset and the safety feeling they get from the helmet. From watching competitions online, I feel like a LOT of punches land in their helmets. Any thoughts?

As a HEMA person, one thing I don't see too often in your videos is blade grabbing, particularly since the katana has such a wide blade and blunt backspine (and especially given how you kendokas control the striking blade midair) I would think slapping and grabbing the back of the blade would have a bigger place in sparring, though it's not easy to pull off, as shown by the kudo sensei. Do love these videos!

Man, if the kendoka was not limited just to kendo ruled shots the budo guy would have lost *waaaay* more. Not surprised, fighting against a person with a weapon while unarmed is practically asking to be killed, you can’t even safely block his sword or dodge reliably, you’re at the mercy of the swords range.

This fight is just a exposition match, pratice. It's what we call randori in judo. Kudo is taught mainly for police enforcment, so many carry weapons and only deal with criminals wich may have some pocket knife or a hand gun, not a sword or spear. This video is just for the fun and gimmicks

a shinai is made not to hurt, basically kendo uses a shinai to represent a katana in training so as not to put the opponent at risk, therefore, any fighter or not against a kenshin has an advantage, however if we exchange the shinai for a katana this fight it would be over before it happened, they notice the successful attack on the opponent's head right at the beginning....if it was a real katana, it would end at that moment.
