curious why Korea didn't score kote? while Japan got ippon on men? (I'm a kendo beginner.)
@SheylaFireCrow9 жыл бұрын
Gordon Hall Jang landed his kote first, but single kote from this angle scored very rare. So instead zanshin Jang tried to strike men immediately, but couldn't complete it becouse of Takenouchi men strike.

Gordon Hall Jang did't show acepted form of kote zanshin becouse his intention of men strike. But I think that his inner zanshin state was very strong. Sorry my bad english.)
@kimphilipy9 жыл бұрын
Jang didn't try to hit men after his successful kote strike; he was merely trying to cover his head with a block before zanshin which is acceptable. It's an egregious missed call.
@shushivick9 жыл бұрын
Because if you think of the actual sword, the way Jang hit the kote wouldn't "cut" since he hit from the side. Do you think the side of the real sword which is very flat will cut anything? No, and that's why.
If it hadn't been slowed down I would've never noticed.

Can someone explain how the scoring system works. I know they are awarded to see who has the most points by 3, but how do they score?
@bigbilly38163 жыл бұрын
you score a point by hitting the top of the head (men), hands (kote) or sides of the torso (do)

+M3D13V4L Well. Kendo technique has very little to do with actual swordfighting. It's the same as with european sport fencing. You don't learn how to strike with a real sword. You learn how to win at the sport.

You have to hit your opponent to score in Kendo. Having your blade on your opponents neck just make their strikes invalide.

why is korea wearing white when the whole world is blue/black.

korea was occupied by japan during ww2, after the war to establish self identify as a country, a lot of the activity orignated from japan are baned. To be avoid of being baned in korea, kendo is renamed to kumdo and the uniform change to white instead of black/blue.

I don't think there should be rules for Kendo. If you can non stop attack with power and precision... Then why not? Why stop and wait and why are you only allowed to hit certain points? It should be like a real sword fight.
@iamkailong8 жыл бұрын
firstly, in areal sword fight with gear and armor only certain point of your body is not protected by armor or weak enough for attack random attack is pointless and makes you vulnerable only in movie or comics you will see fighter attack randomly and try to cut people in half, they will usually wait their enermy moves and shows soft spot in their armor not to mention how heavy the sword is, it is very hard to recover from a miss attack, there is no way to non stop attack with power for kendo, people play it like this to get point just like any other sport, it cant be real, practical and still be efficient to get point
@bodhisativaa8 жыл бұрын
+Maxim Au did I say attack randomly? Some people would have much faster brain functioning then others and can process images faster then other people. Meaning that they can attack more precisely for longer periods of time and faster then normal.
@bodhisativaa8 жыл бұрын
+Maxim Au actually if you look at grandmasters of Kenjutsu back in the day like 100 year olds rare footage. These dudes could have easily sliced someone in half before they blinked.

Kendo is equal part mental and physical, There is nothing in the rules that say you can't really wail on your opponent but as to score an ippon you need to land with precision , intention and discipline wailing on your opponent gets you nowhere. Kendo is less about being practical and more about being focused anyway. That's what I have always taken away while practicing it anyway.
@Jimbo3860008 жыл бұрын
Kendo is a simplified form of Kenjutsu for keeping your mind, speed, and body trained together. It's never really been about killing or disabling an opponent. If you want to see real fighting techniques, go practice or watch some videos on Kenjutsu. Or my personal favorite, Katori Shinto-Ryu. That shit is intense and gruesome.

Their style is resembling more and more of the aggressive korean style each WKC. They already lost to the US team and it looks like they can very well lose in individuals soon. The gap between Korea and Japan is non-existent nowadays. Koreans took 2nd, 3rd and 4th in 2009. 2nd and third in 2012. In this WKC, there were a lot of bad judging and stall tactics by the Japanese which is to be expected in their home country.
