You're right about the Jamaican accent because there is a clip of Drake when he was a teenager saying that it's a really ignorant way of speaking. Drake only started talking like that when Dancehall was on the rise again and it was deemed the 'cool' thing to do.
@igweugo3 ай бұрын
Drake was a Jewish kid in Toronto, who didn't even try to be a part of even the culture of things in Toronto, before it was something he could make money off of anyway. And that's what kills Drake; he doesn't culturally belong to anywhere; not Atlanta, not Texas, not The South generally, not SoCal, not East London, not Jamaica, and not even Toronto. The man's a mercenary who doesn't value anything but money, and what money can get him. Hopefully he finds himself at some point, before it's too late

Now, with Wha Gwan Delilah, (I know I misspelled it 😅) he wants to take ownership of that accent.
@nope4008Ай бұрын
@igweugo he collabed with dancehall artists in an attempt to connect to the culture. When it was rumoured that rihanna was in barbados when she was pregnant, he was seen playing basketball AND going to clubs in barbados NOT TO LONG AFTER trying to be part of the culture whereas asap rocky is of barbadian decent and will always has a connection to barbados no matter where he goes. The man has a history of trying to be something he is not.
@igweugoАй бұрын
@@nope4008 That's not connecting to culture though; that's literally being a vulture. No one actually looking to be of culture simply shows up in a place, and puts on Barbadan accent to hang. Can even look at ASAP Rocky; don't know much about the man's personal life, but he came to the world as a New Yorker spitting over Texas beats/music. Barbadan by blood, but we're not going to lie and say he didn't go to Barbados and sound like a New Yorker. Maybe in time, he may start to sound like some of that Bajan Creole, but that's what time does

I honestly don’t get the idea that Mr Morale isn’t good. I recently listened to it and that is an amazing album. I will say that you will have all types of emotions listening to that album but me personally I enjoyed the highs, the lows and the prevail that this album consumes.
@igweugo3 ай бұрын
No one (or let me say few folks) is saying that Mr Morale was bad album; the point has been made that, even more than with TPAB, the album was so dense that it took a good 3-4 listens for the themes to finally start to gel. The problem with that, is that most folks didn't listen all that many times; maybe they got through 2 listens, but that was it. Drake, in his poorly crafted diss, ended up getting folks to go back to Mr Morale, and give the project a couple more listens; with folks getting to their 3rd/4th listens, the project finally opened up, and folks could finally see and appreciate some of what they missed before

Prince was exposing the industry and trying to help them get ownership of their music or at least decent royalties. Larry King asked Prince a question regarding all 3 of them getting paid and Prince shut him down quickly. He said "I'm paid....I'm here to help THEM get their money". 14:53 this is purely anecdotal from my perspective but I feel like can say with certainty that The Wiz was something Kendrick watched as a child. By the time we were kids (Dot is 36, Drake 37, and Cole is 39), it was already a classic in many black families. Just like Thriller, or anything else by Michael and the actors/actresses in that movie. We’re talking Nipsy Russell, Richard Prior, Diana Ross, a film produced by Quincy Jones and music featuring Luther Vandross. The Wiz was a big deal for many years and with it being apart of his/our parents time, it was most definitely something they passed to us and had us watch. I can’t think of anyone in my immediate or extended family, or any one of my friends who didn’t watch the Wiz when they were a kid. Heck, my first year as a music teacher I had my students watch and perform it lol. So, I don’t think What’s the Dirt is too far off here. Just my opinion though, I’m not tryna come for you I’m just saying I can see how he would come to that conclusion.

You're def. right about the Jamaican presence in Canada - especially in Toronto - but that doesn't necessarily mean Aubrey had any meaningful connections to the community as a child. As someone with a scarily similar upbringing to Drake, it wouldn't surprise me to learn that his mother brought/sent him to Jamaican cultural events, nor would I be surprised to learn that someone reached out to her & invited her son to participate. Of course, it also wouldn't surprise me to learn that young Aubrey mostly existed in very separate circles from the various Black diasporan communities. When you have the ethnic & cultural background that Aubrey Graham & I have as Canadian-Americans, the choice is entirely up to your mother & you as to how much connection you have to, "Blackness."

Yeah I didn't listen to the Mr. Morales album until like a year later. I was randomly running through KDot's catalog/albums. I will say Mr. Morales is not my favorite. But I did find some likeable songs.

Okay I know late but the thing u said about Drake’s drawing didn’t make any sense just because it wasn’t crinkled up doesn’t mean it’s not old if he took really good care of all his art work in a good folder then it would be still good
