He's a prophet. Think about it. If he would've gone everything would be cool and who knows maybe Kendrick would have became con-placed and lost his focus. The fact that he wasn't rewarded for his hard work and story gave him a different perspective which we can see in his 2nd/3rd (how ever you'd like to call it) album. He's giving back to the people by giving real messages with a positive outlook. There's nothing more rewarding than giving without expecting nothing.

+Pester Fester this album is a contemporary view into life as a black person in America. throughout the album, it portrays the different kinds of attitudes found in "the hood". from the gang mentality to the feeling of helplessness to spirituality to hope for the black community. it is only for black people in the same way Anne Frank is only for holocaust survivors

I swear to God, if Kendrick doesn't win Album of the Year, I will officially lose every last iota of respect I have for the Grammys. Especially... _especially_ if Taylor Swift is the one who beats him. If _that_ happens, somebody's going to get hurt. Badly.
@TheAndrewj969 жыл бұрын
+Amrit Singh _To Pimp a Butterfly_ is, in my opinion, the greatest hip-hop album of the 21st century. It's also my favorite hip-hop album, period. And I listen to a _lot_ of hip-hop. I could go on for hours about how amazing and important that album is. But there's really nothing I can say that everybody else hasn't already covered. I'll just say that _everyone_ needs to listen to it.
@nobad61349 жыл бұрын
+TheAndrewj96 TPAB is amazing coming from a Hip Hop fan. But Taylor also has her own legitimate reasons to win based on the enormous numbers she sold. It's all subjective. You can't expect the Grammys to recognize Kendrick in the same way they do mainstream Pop. If it was it BET that would be different. Being nominated 11 times is enough of an honor because their decisions can be quite arbitrary. A Grammy shouldn't affect your appreciation of Kendrick's work.
@TheAndrewj969 жыл бұрын
+Olisa Maduegbuna I know, but the quality of the music matters, too. And _To Pimp a Butterfly_ is by far the best album among those five. It shouldn't matter how many copies were sold, but to the Grammys it unfortunately does. It's really just a popularity contest now, which will be permanently cemented if Kendrick gets snubbed again. And yes, regardless of whether or not _To Pimp a Butterfly_ wins, it's still a flawless album that will be talked about for decades to come. But winning Album of the Year would certainly get more people to listen to it.

Forest Hill Drive briefly touched on cultural issues, which is respectable. However, Kendrick Lamar intentionally structured TPAB as an outline to the innate crime, injustice and the poverty trap in minority communities. You simply can't compare the two Albums because they are inspired by two different themes. You could even say they are from two different genres.
