WM_ 96 Kendrick might of been a part of that but I think it’s an era thing and not him. Hip hop evolves like any genre and with that the content becomes more complex and conceptual. Gambino was going to make BTI regardless of Kendrick or not. They came out around the same time too.

Kendrick blew up all social media and popular culture related to Hip Hop. Kendrick got Hip Hop off of the girls, money and clothes bandwagon. The more competitive Hip Hop Great Awakening began (IMHO) on Yeezus when Kanye began to break down normal rap barriers, although he did it with bad lyrics and too much auto tune. K-Dot finished getting the ball rolling (fuck molly, fancy clothes, etc.). I've got a bad feeling about Eminem's MMLP2, but if I'm wrong, Em will finidh putting rap in it's place.
