The day I first heard this song, I didn’t think much of it. I assumed people were just overhyping it because of its storytelling. But when I got to 'Dying of Thirst,' my gut sank. As someone going through a spiritual transformation, I felt an overwhelming fear that I was destined for hell after listening to it. Everyone interprets the second part differently, but for me, it's Kendrick warning us about our sins

My 2 childhood best friends introduced me to this song. We were in middle school so we never truly understood the song. I used to be so impressed because they both knew all the lyrics and it was a long song. 10 years later, I believe this to be the greatest song of all time. The depth and layers to every verse is amazing. One of the childhood best friends died and this song is a constant reminder of him. The first verse specifically hits extra hard for me now. They are essentially brothers to me, and even though his death was out of my control, I still felt guilty. This song brings me to tears. And every time I hear this chorus it makes me think of my best friend/brother, to go visit his grave or watch some old videos of us. Miss you D. Thank you Kendrick for this track and for reminding me to promise to sing about him.

It’s hard for me to listen to this song. Just the melody alone makes my eyes well up, and then Kendrick’s poignant storytelling is just too overwhelming. I don’t think I’ve played it more than three times in the last decade because I feel it too much.

The problem with Kendrick Lamar is that every album sounds like it was made by a different person. You can’t compare his work cause it’s like each project had a different mission and he accomplishes it brilliantly every time. this song has always been my favorite song ever written. the power that comes from both the most impactful and standout moments like the gunshots that kill Daves brother, even down to the beat Kendrick chose reminds me of home and alot of my own life. not necessarily the violence, i was luckily not so exposed the way Kendrick unfortunately was, but the loss of people and the loss of hope that comes from the fear of not being Sung About. this song blows my mind on how much Kendricks fears reflect my own. ive always been scared to die a meaningless death and feeling like ive failed.

@@nathanadams7595 Maybe it dose but i dont see how it relates to the story of kendrick and what his thirst is. To me the "i am dying of thirst" part of samidot is talking about revenge as they tried to get revenge for kendrick from getting jumped wich led to his freind getting shot and killed and now getting revenge again for the death of that friend but as the cycle would have it the opps will try to take revenge on kendrick and his freinds and it will continue so on unless they follow the path of god and chose mercy and forgiveness over the thirst of revenge .

In the album it turns out Sherane deliberately flirted and spent time with Kendrick with the goal to set him up to be beaten by her gangbanger family members. Why is that? What did he do to warrant that treatment? I know it ended with Dave and his brother dying but did any consequence happen to Sherane and/or her fam? Did his friends' revenge work, even with what happened to the two (and not just killing who shot Dave but also Sherane's fam that beat up Kendrick)? I know and like some of Kendrick's music (besides the Drake beef) but I'm still a bit of an outsider, so I'm asking this to fans with more info who are willing to answer. And yes, I'm on Genius and other sites rn trying to find some answers first.
