This might be my most psychotic, armchair psychologist moment but I have a friend like Pat and I instantly saw Pat’s reaction to Woolie as exactly like what my friend would do. They are very smart, just like Pat. They are very anxious, just like Pat. As soon as Woolie showed that “the thing Pat likes” was bad, Pat immediately had to intellectualize the analysis and present “the thing Woolie likes” as equally absurd. Rap disses aren’t “normal”, they are “singing poetry to music”. This is exactly what my friend does when he perceives that something he enjoys is looked down upon and he doesn’t quite *get* why. This causes issues with a lot of people because to a lot of people it’s intuitive but they don’t know how to explain that in concrete, discrete terms. It’s also why Pat ended the discussion with “we’re actually the same” because I think he was incredibly anxious about being ostracized. I know this as an A1 parasocial moment but I’ve seen this happen so many times in my own life that I feel I have to say social anxiety sucks and it’s important to be cognizant of it as the experiencer and the experiencee.

Woolie isn't a clout chaser though. He is almost always months, if not years behind on playing popular games and speaks in a coded language that's nigh impenetrable unless you are into all the same things he is, and got into them during the same era he did. (I've been following in this fandom for over 6 years and still don't know what he's saying sometimes) Influencer and clout chaser are not synonymous, and if they are in your mind love your self, and expand who you consume content from.

@@Americanbadashh I wasn't suggesting Woolie -or any/every other influencer- was chasing clout, just acknowledging that clout is a clear and big part of what an influencer is. That's why my initial take was that it was ironic that he'd call others out for wanting to develop something that he has already developed. To reiterate, it was my initial take. My actual takeaway from the video was beneath it in my previous comment. I'm not sure why you only responded to the first part of what I said, but I'll clarify my actual takeaway in case I just did a poor job expressing it: Woolie seemed to be struggling with his phrasing initially, it even took Pat a minute to realize this (as he mentions in the video). That led to my initial take, but eventually he got it out more clearly that he considered the tactics being used to build the clout were what annoyed him. Which seemed fair to me, as an influencer having opinions about good and bad ways to build clout is reasonable.
