Thanks so much for the kind words about our work on this synth! The AX-60 is one that all of us here are pretty fond of too, but you're right, it's too wild and strange sounding to be a good all-purpose synth, especially when it comes to trying to make pads and other gentler sounds. Its extremely unique character also stands as proof that what people sometimes say about synths that use Curtis chips sounding inherently alike is far from the truth-- it uses the same combination VCO/VCF/VCA chips as the much more normal sounding Sequential Circuits Six Trak and Multi-Trak. I hope its new owner appreciates it as much as you did!

This is EXACTLY how I ended up with Yamaha AN1x. I friggin love that thing, but I didn't have the space for it at the time so I sold it to a friend. He has used it in soundtracks and a ton of music since, while it was propped against the side of a closet for a few years while it was at my place. I sorely miss it now, and the second hand prices have now doubled. Goddamn!

I would much, much rather have this type of content, compared to the sponsored videos. I honestly think the sponsored videos that have become the regular on most synth based KZbin channels are ruining the spirit of sharing honest and meaningful content. To clarify, I really enjoy learning about individual artist’s insights and imbedded processes. Mixed with application methods and stories of how they achieve desired results… way more than what they think about a newer product… that was given to you by a manufacturer. but that is just me. Lots of people are drawn to that content, but it is also ubiquitous. I think having a variety of content is beneficial for you, as your viewers come for different reasons. I mean, I don’t run a successful KZbin channel, so what do I know… but… Ultimately, you are the product. Your sincere and honest personality is what keeps people coming back. Stay honest and stay real. These candid spotlights are beautiful. Do what makes you happy and what makes you feel connected to the content. As a viewer it is about participating in the transmission of insight and enjoyment, through an eloquent presentation. And this video does that, thank you. As an experiment, it might be an interesting task to try making a a few videos that fall into different lengths just to see how it impacts your presentation and content. Something like: tiny videos- under a minute, short videos- under 5 minutes, medium video- under 12 minutes long videos- under 20 minutes Open ended videos- that end when they end Just to see how you respond to your own limitations. Enjoy your enjoyment and enjoy your day and thanks for sharing.

I'm working on a solution to be able to control the AX-60/S612 combo via midi as it clearly doesn't work. I think its entirely possible if the AX could be thrown into an Omni mode
@AlchemicalAudio2 жыл бұрын
@@Ancaja123 what kinds of issues are you running into and looking to solve? I would love to be able to use an external controller to control the chain (it seems like that was an issue I had) or even be able to insert something like an arpeggiator in between the synth and the sampler (as that was something I tried to do years ago that didn’t ever seem to work, could have been user error). I always have to check the manual to set it up correctly, and originally had a hard time getting it to work beyond the first few times, when the first 13 pin cable I had didn’t work correctly, as the settings had to be just so. At the moment, I am mostly using a S700 with the SXM-007 expansion, which, usually, gives me 10 slots that are saved to memory. The s700 loads all the sounds from the 612 and has a few more tricks, but doesn’t have the active front panel controls, which is definitely a significant part of the charm for the Akai synth and sampler combo. I will likely go back to the s612 once I recap the 612… always the case with old gear.
@Ancaja1232 жыл бұрын
@@AlchemicalAudio apparently when the Sampler Input mode is engaged the AX will respond to notes on whatever midi channel it’s on (don’t really understand what happens), but most importantly each voice played *on the actual AX keyboard* sends out a different midi channel of 1-6, in round-Robin fashion. But it’s not easy to suss out the order of notes it’s sending out, I have tried using max patches and even this device I has that does a 6ch round Robin midi thing. It’s extremely confusing, but I still think it’s possible. Solution I tried but didn’t work (using they boxes and stuff): two identical tracks on a sequencer. 1 round Robin 1-6 sending to S612, one sending to channel 7 specifically to the AX60 set to channel 7. I thought triggering the envelopes if the AX, while simultaneously doing what the S612 is expecting would work. Doesn’t. That’s why I thought maybe if there was an Omni mode on the AX, it could respond to all 6 channels. It’s something that I think someone who knew more about the design of the synth would be able to figure out a solution for. Side note: The arp in between the two is and excellent idea in theory. Would sound beautiful!!!!

The old Akai gear... It conveys a certain era, not just by sound but by look as well. Old gear has a certain appeal new gear often misses or just doesn't get right. Seldomly they do get it right and the user doesn't get it (not you Jorb,gimme a sec). Few years ago bought a Jupiter 50, not a great commercial succes. Found a slightly used one for a third(!) of the new price. In the comments of the reviews it read that it wasn't analog,it was no workstation, it was only 6 part multitimbral and only 128 voice polyphonic. So I bought it... What it does do is layer or split over a 6 octave keybed. Piano's sound like piano's (same goes for organs, marimba, you get the idea) synths sound like synths (more or less the whole Roland JV,Juno and Jupiter library is in there). This ditched and misunderstood piece of gear is better than the ever so celebrated overpriced Jupiter 8 ever was. The old gear is fantastic, but sometimes new iterations are better than the original. People are now finding out what a great synth the JX-3P is. Due to the price of Juno's and Jupiters. The Jupiter 8 was used by bands on tour because it was reliable (service netwerk) and had presets. It were the synth sounds that were used, the other sounds were average at best.

@craigsurette34382 жыл бұрын
I cant agree with your premise for why you would let the Akai go. If anything, that it is charachterful and unique and hard to replace is exactly why i would hold onto it. I sold my Juno106, for the reasons you describe selling your Akai. I loved it, but i found myself using other synths more,especially as my music tastes at the time were evolving towards different sorts of sounds. The thing is, nothing else i had could do what the Juno did, the way it did it, and I have found myself since then perpetually trying in vain to recapture that essence with all the other gear I was using more which i kept instead or have gotten since. I imagine you might find yourself doing the exact same thing,when you miss your Akai Now, i make a point of keeping the synths that are the best sounding, unique and most characterful ones, and passing on the ones that excel in generic usefulness. I can replace those vastly easier, than i can refind or recreate an old rare gem that does something special
@wackerburg2 жыл бұрын
I am not really buying that dogma about things having to evolve. Especially with music. Artists don't HAVE to evolve just because being different than yesterday. When something is great how it is, it is totally good to keep it that way. I for instance LOVE the Roland TB-303. To me it's perfect. I don't like the mods people are treating it with. Same with the TR-909. I never even feel the need to tune that Hi Hat for instance 😂 It's perfect as it is. For me at least. I don't need a gazillion of features and possibilities when I never really use those anyway. That being said, I totally understand you from a "channel's POV". If you feel that you have to present NEW gear to your audience, then flipping stuff regularly makes sense. I am just an avid music lover who got himself the tools for creating the niche musical genre that I like most 🖖🏻
