Kenetrek Mountain Extreme vs Kenetrek Mountain Guide

Thanks for putting out a review and giving your opinion on all the brands. I listened to your review and a comment you made about the upper not being supportive or stiff stood out to me. I have hundreds of miles logged in my mountain extremes and I can tell you they have saved me from multiple ankle injuries. They have a very stiff flex and tremendous ankle support. I am not trying to troll or cause problems on your channel, but in fairness to the boot - they are a mountain boot class leader. I have no vested interest in Kenetrek other than I believe them to be a great boot. I have Crispi boots also and I find the performance between the two brands to be similar. I am also looking at some Zamberlans, but think I will stick with what I know and what fits my foot. You hit it on the head with that point. There are a lot of great boots and fit is most important. Especially on a western backcountry hunt. Thanks for putting info out there, nice job!

I think this gets a bit subjective, I’m sure they provide plenty of support especially compared to traditional upland style boots

I was going to add some input to help others regarding these and some others. I did give a reply to Andrew regarding using these for work boots. I also own Crispy Nevada's which are similar but 200gr of insulation and I would say they run a half size smaller than Kenetrek and I feel the Kenetrek is a more comfortable fit. I have worn the Mountain extreme and the har scrabble steel toe for 14 hours a day and like Tim mentioned they have kept me from twisting an ankle more than a few times. As to Tim wanting to try Zamberlan boots, I own 3 pairs of them and that is another great boot company but order a half size larger than the Kenetrek. I wouldn't hesitate to order Zamberlan boots or Kenetrek boots. Love the fit and performance from both.

I have the Mt guides and when the weather gets extremely cold (-20's) the last thing I think about is my feet. When I can get by with a lighter boot I definitely grab a different pair. If I wear them all day even my knee joints will hurt a little due to the weight. The Guides I have had for two years and the tread is still amazing. I just waxed them today and they still look almost new!

Folding your boot tongue properly during break in is a critical detail There is no need for additional lace retention is you do this correctly from day one the tongue will develop grooves in the tongues that will keep it in place Never needed a lace clip on the tongues of my custom wesco logger boots and how you break them in matters

I keep hearing that these are true to size, but all of my other footwear is 10. Five and these and 11. Five still put my foot to sleep

Great video. Thanks for sharing. I got a pair of extremes 400s coming in. What's the coldest you have taken your guide 400s down to and how did they perform. Also, what is the warmest you have wore them, and how did they feel? Thank you, Rancho cucamonga CA

I've had them in the snow in 15* in West Virginia and they were fine. Can't recall wearing them in warm weather, I have other boots so didn't even try them in warm weather, I'm sure they'd get to be hot in anything over 60 or so. I'm bird hunting, not standing still, so staying warm isn't usually an issue

I hunt the Appalachian mountains and was thinking about the mountain extremes, what would be your first choice? I'll be hunting turkey, deer,bear,hogs and small game with dogs.

Kenetreks are good boots, I like my mountain extremes. If I had to take one pair it would be the Hoffmans mostly due to fit, but they’re a great combo of comfort and support

For lots of side hilling, without 400g of insulation, what you recommend? I not only hunt, but do a lot of hiking and mushroom picking up steep slippery mountain sides in the PacNW.

In your other video you mentioned that you used Danner Pronghorns in the past. How are these comparable in size fitment? A 9 US wide in Danner boots fits me comfortably.

Are the boots supposed to fit snug semi tight on your foot. I ordered a pair a half size bigger. And still feel snug /tight. Not sure if mountain boots are supposed to be like that since I’ve never owned a pair.

Comparing a insulated kenetrek to an NI kenetrek makes no sense The extra bulk in your guides is due to the insulation not the boot ot it’s fit for socks The internal sizing should be the same I own desert guides Mountain guides LPC And I am about to buy lineman extremes which are built on the guide sole and last All non insulated The weight difference comparison has a lot to do with the insulation as well This comparison is not an accurate representation of guides vs extremes IMO

I clearly stated that they’re an insulated boot and even said it’s not a true apples to apples comparison. Feel free to get a pair of NI Extremes and Guides and do your accurate review
