So many people I've encountered lately have been scrutinizing the morality issues plaguing society today. Most, if not all, are coming to the realization that evil exists and likewise are starting to lend themselves to a belief that God is real. They are beginning to actually pursue Him. Every time I get on-line I'm surprised at the ridiculousness I see. I can't believe that people are so ignorant of fact and common sense morality issues, but then I remember that God said he would eventually give these people over to their debased minds and desires. Well, here we are. God bless Answers ministry and Ken Ham.

However, this wasnt really on how we can evangelize more effectively, more so on what parts of the church believes bothers him. I think a different title would be more suitable for this lecture. Again i get the concern for different views of Genesis, i understand what bothers him, but when evangelism came up it was More in regards to history, not what we can do now so that more can come to know Jesus

As regarding the question of why eschatology arises more emotions than creation [that's debatable, certainly amongst Christians but not in the secular world], it is because, 1) Christians build up their theology based on their denomination, most eschatology is different. 2) The Bible is like a masterful puzzle where all pieces fit together, when you get to end-time events, it exposes one's theological inconsistencies; there is no way around it. 3) It is an emotional issue because of preconceived ideas, the fear of being label "escapists" for example, or other terms. 4) Churches don't teach much of it because they'd lose members hence money. The intriguing part is that Kent is correct on Genesis - well, we should talk about the gap - but in general thumbs up Dr. Kent. On the other hand, I don't know his eschatological views, I just watch him once in a while. But as far as I know, he is reformed, so he is possibly a-millennial even though I know of pre-millennial Calvinists. If Kent is a-millennial or post, I mean that's whole point of the Bible, to reveal the Second Coming of Christ. IT IS inescapably linked to a thousand years kingdom i.e. 7 days of creation, 7 millennium. We are getting closer... Of course the gap would mess up the Calvinistic view of reality because it requires free-will in action but that's another story.

Good message Ken. Eschatology is effective when you understand that God is not the author of confusion. Just like understanding that in the beginning God created the heaven and the earth in 6 literal 24 hour periods and rested on the 7th. Understanding the correct lens to view the prophecies of the Bible is important to understand the whole of God's word, not just partial. I'm not a 'left behind' believer.

I like how he starts by asking why it is that people are not accepting the christian gospel today as they once did. Well, perhaps the main reason is that now, with civil government the norm in most western democracies, one can think about, analyze and dispute the claims of religion without fear of being arrested, imprisoned or killed. The Inquisition was an institution set up by the pope to combat heresy, which was any disagreement with the established religion in power and in concert with the state.

One of the reasons people stopped taking the genesis account literally is because genesis 1 and 2 present 2 different stories as the order of creation gets switched up. This is widely acknowledged in scholarship, particularly with the documentary hypothesis. Another reason a lot of people have is the morality displayed in the Hebrew Bible, with all the killing, slavery and misogyny.

@@cavedmanjim249 there are 2 reasons scholars say Genesis 1 and 2 are different stories, the first being that chapter 1 has animals, then man and woman but chapter 2 has man, then animals then woman the 2nd reason coming from the documentary hypothesis which makes sense of the 1st reason. What exactly is justified killing? Do you consider God killing the 70k people when David took the census in 2 Sam 24 to be justified? Also on the topic of slaves, Leviticus 25 sets a tone, Israelites can’t be slaves, they should get foreigners to be slaves and they can be kept for life, Jubilee only applied for Jewish hired workers. I haven’t heard of Torah class, fairly new to this world on KZbin, but on Judaism I have watched Rabbi Tovia Singer, who firmly believes Jesus is not the Messiah, he particularly speaks on how the wildly the New Testament takes Hebrew scripture out of context especially with what is said to be prophecy about Jesus. Ever since I can remember being conscious I’ve always had questions about existence, particularly because I grew up Christian. For whatever reason, my brain was never fully convinced, even though I wanted to believe it, I even gave my life at the young age of 8. the more I asked questions and I asked him, if you’re there, show me, the more I began to be lead away.

Documentary hypothesis is not the consensus view of the pentateuch among biblical scholars. Genesis 1 is the general account of creation while Genesis 2 is the specific details of man's creation. Genesis 2 also does not contradict when you actually read it. Genesis 2:8 "Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. " The garden of Eden was already planted before man was created Genesis 2:9 "The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground-trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil." The following verse is a description of the garden. This is not a description of the order of creation. As verse 8 established, Eden was already created when God placed Adam in the garden. In Genesis 2:18, God talks about how he shall create a helper for Adam. The following verse says, "Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. " If you don't understand English we'll this might seem like the animals were created after, but if that were the case the preposition starting the sentence would be "Then" in that case. The verse uses the preposition "Now" to indicate that the animals were already formed. What God really did in that passage was bring the animals to Adam to be named. All the other popular arguments for the documentary hypothesis are from bad scholarship and misusing certain passages out of context.

I wonder if anyone's done a study on whether there's a pattern relating to one's eschatological views coupled with what they actually believe creation-wise. I believe it largely comes back to how one inteprets Scripture and whether that is consistent. For example, I cannot see how someone could claim to be pre-millenialist and belive in a literal 1000 years Millenium, yet not believe in a literal 6 day creation. That just doesn't make sense to me. "Every word of God is pure..." Proverbs 30:5a On the other hand, if one is of the Amillenialist camp and given to picking and choosing what can be allegorised etc then there's no conflict in not believing in a variable time-span for creation. So from that perspective, I think eschatology is important, but not more important than what one believes about Genesis. What is more important is, can and does God say what He means in His word, how much honour and esteem do we give Him (as Christians I mean). Is the Word of God, the Word of God? And do we handle His infallible, inspired, and holy word without deceit (2 Corinthians 4:2) On another point, my eldest son goes to a 'Christian' school in Australia. I say 'Christian' because it is in name, yet in many aspects we as parents have to be so vigilant. It depends on the teacher as to whether they will be taught creation or evolution. Evolution is the default though as the school gets funding from the government, therefore they must follow the Australian curriculum (which teaches evolution of course!) I cannot speak for other schools as we are only associated with one, but I suspect this is not the only Christian school where evolution has been taught.

3:40 minutes into this video, Ken's says that "subsequent generations are beginning to realize that if the history in Genesis is not true, then the Gospel is not true". Ken is wrong about this. The gospel is about the resurrection of Christ from the dead. After being presented with the historical evidence for the resurrection of Christ, I believed it was true and called on the Name of the Lord. I was filled with heaven’s peace & joy, and delivered from deep-seated paranoia & the bondage to sin. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER I learned how unscientific evolution and billions of years was, which provided powerful & ongoing support for my already existing faith. My point is that kids raised in this current culture need, first of all, the gospel. Having to first convince unchurched kids & teens (who are totally immersed & convinced of billions of years and no God) that Genesis is history, and that they are sinners who need to be saved, is not necessary for successful evangelism. I do agree completely with Ken Ham that the church must regularly & emphatically teach their children the truth that Genesis is history, and provide the overwhelming scientific evidence for it. I appreciate and am very thankful for Ken Ham. "If Christ has not been raised, our peaching is useless, and so is your faith." 1 Corinthians 15

Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you. 17:24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; 17:25 Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; 17:26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; 17:27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: 17:28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. 17:29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device. 17:30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: 17:31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead. 17:32 And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter. 17:33 So Paul departed from among them. 17:34 Howbeit certain men clave unto him, and believed: among the which was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.

Ken, Most young people today don't believe in sin, or God. They believe that, everything that is has always been. And that science will someday be able to explain what we don't understand. Do they need to first be convinced that Genesis is history & that they are sinners? Or - “If Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless, and so is your faith.” (1 Corinthians 15:17) "the gospel...is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes". (Romans 1:16) "I want to remind you of the gospel...By this gospel you are saved" (1 Corinthians 15:1-2) "I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins (according to the Scriptures), that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day (according to the Scriptures)..." (1 Corinthians 15:3-4) "And with great power the apostles were giving testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus." (Acts 4:33) The RESURRECTION of CHRIST from the dead = a SUPERNATURAL event in history "If you acknowledge with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Afterwards, learning that Genesis is history will undergird and confirm their already existing faith in the risen, living Savior of mankind. It was 7:03 minutes into this video that prompted my post, where you say: "Isn't it also true that you can't understand the good news of the gospel unless you understand the bad news in Genesis?" Answer: No, my friend. It's not. Jesus said, "I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.” (Luke 5:32) Most young people today don't believe in sin. But each one knows that they personally, deep inside, are in serious trouble.

Society sees the failure of the western church in terms of power, position, tradition, institutional frames of reference in the lives of ordinary people everywhere. The personal encounter of christ remains a small part in the larger narrative of 'church'. What is the gospel in our time..when sin and sacrifice and good and bad, evil for example don't sit in the langauge of much of life these days. We CHRISTIANS have a big problem with seeing we are worse then we think we are RIGHTEOUSNESS seems to come up when we describe ourselves to ourselves and others. " I am a believer therefore I am RIGHTEOUS." " I dont sin as much as you do." That my freinds is a problem. A problem for our SALVATION and for our neighbors who need a nudge in the direction towards RIGHTEOUSNESS. Instead of watching those who live a secular life under a microscope, we need to look at ourselves and each other under that microscope. We must be directing ourselvesand each other towards RIGHTEOUSNESS. Even knowing it will hurt our ego's and feel quite uncomfortable. I know I still do a few things that are terrible to do when trying to show others their short comings. They may not ssy anything, but in their mind we look like hypocrites so we're taking their SALVATION away from them and ourselves. PRAY TONIGHT THAT THE HOLY SPIRIT CONVICTS US OF THE ACTUAL THINGS WE MUST CHANGE OF OURSELVES SO YOU WILL BE SOVEREIGN. We can effectively be a positive person for others to see our GODLY COUNTENANCE as we try to open their eyes and ears to the YRUTH OF GOD. GOD BLESS. AMEN.

But young people don't yet have this historical perspective. Theirs is a "eat, drink and be merry" mentality and follow culture mindset. Youth thinks it will live forever...

""so why would young people feel like they need God? "" I read somewhere when the Christian faith started everybody believed in God. Plus there was this sense that they had offended God and were doomed. So the Gospel was good news. Today people don't believe in God. People don't have a sense of sin. Therefore they do not need God and the Christian faith makes no sense. So you have to preach the bad news first before you preach the good news.

Ken Ham built the Ark to perpetuate a myth taught to him by his parents. A teacher who imparts knowledge is to be welcomed. One who tries to manifest an Ark which could never be built in ancient times, let alone be sea worthy is nuts. @@Neil-yg5gm unfortunately for that story there is vast amounts of evidence to the contrary. And even basic common sense shows that cannot be true. Ken, your work is valuable. I have a question(s). You assert again and again that all creation happened in 6 24 hour periods of time plus a 24 hour period of rest. You also assert that God is infinite and eternal and have even said that God exists out of time. You then use earth days and years to put time spans on these events. Could it be that the "days" of creation are epochs and since everything was created by God, that these "days" were of much longer length since they pertain to the entire cosmos and not Earth itself? From the Garden of Eden onward however, events happened on Earth, thus now being bound to Earth days and years. Much of Genesis occurs outside of Earth. I would be extremely interested in your thoughts on this matter. Additionally, can these distinctions be lost in the many translations of the Word Of God? What language did God speak? I can assure you it wasn't English. English is the language of man, not God. So therefore the King James Bible is the word of God as understood by men, not THE WORD OF GOD. How do you possibly argue these points successfully?
@janetdinkelman2348
@janetdinkelman2348 Жыл бұрын
The translation of the Bible is important because it needs to go to the original Hebrew and to the Greek for New Testament for correct translation, the King James version and the English Standard version (ESV) both did this. Both of these versions translate the Genesis account "and there was evening and there was morning this first day" and God states it the same way for each of the days. In Hebrew if the word day meant a period of time such as in Abraham's day that was not a specific day, but if it is combined with evening, or morning, or numbered then it was seen as a single day. So in scripture with KJV and ESV it specifically says 24 hour period of time and since God included all 3 words, He is emphasizing it as 24 hour days. Since God is Holy and cannot lie, we can take Him at his word. We need to trust Him, because the devil has been using the "did God really say?" Over and over.

@heinpereboom5521 I think the first 2 verses in Genesis are more of an introduction and telling it how it was made from nothing "void". I do look forward someday to asking God, "How he did it?" But I know he can do anything, turn water into wine, heal disease which normally would take a long time. He still does miracles today. I know that the earth is not billions of years old. Check out Spike Psarris, he is a NASA space engineer, he was an atheist who after studying all of the results from the space probes realized that the earth and the solar system is much younger. He has some awesome videos that I shared with my Sunday school kids and they were blown away. I hope this helps. These Old Testament books were written in Hebrew and Aramaic, they went to the original copies and they tried to interpret as closely as possible, the King James and English standard version went back to the most original copies some other Bibles did not do this and were not as careful.
