Tip: turn off obstacle avoidance on the spark to fly faster without sports mode on while in active track. Btw it uses deep learning to determine the vehicle it is tracking, not the speed. It can recognise a bike, car, human etc. cool eh

I really enjoyed this. I am impressed with the Spark it is a very nice drone and has some amazing features I think will really challenge the drone industry to do more. As always I was blown away by the Phantom 4 Pro. It truly is a beautiful machine. One reason I started with the Phantom 3 Standard as a tool to learn with, is the fact it has no "bells and whistles". It makes me fly the drone. Being a aerial enthusiast at heart, I'd rather do the flying, Ken's right its more fun. Great collaboration and I have spent many hours watching both of your channels.

Nice cooperation and test. It seems the Active track on the P4 is the smoothest of all. The Spark went left and right a little bit and doing it manually doesn't make it that smooth. The only problem with active track is lack of speed. You can't go fast unfortunately, neither take sharp turns.
@KenHeron7 жыл бұрын
Hey Peter! Yes, Active Track has limitations. However, those tech-nerds over at DJI will no doubt make another quantum leap with it on the upcoming Phantom 5! (Fingers crossed.)

I just bought a Spark at Target on clearance for $199! (with the controller kit!) and it’s absolutely awesome! Easily the best $200 I’ve ever spent in my life. After a week I gained the confidence to try Sport mode and WOW it’s a rocket ship! It feels like it has 5x the power. It drifts around turns like a fishtailing car on a racetrack in the sky above my street! I then bought a Mavic Pro a few days later for the insane price of $425 on clearance also at Target, and honestly I’m undecided whether I’m more impressed with the Spark! Sure the Mavic has obvious advantages, namely 4x the range/distance, 25% more top speed, 2x the runtime, the 60FPS video modes, and 4K, but the Spark basically has everything else the Mavic Pro does. The Spark isn’t just an “intro version” of the Mavic, it’s practically a Mavic in a mini package. It reaches its 31mph max speed so fast I can tell it’s clearly an arbitrary software limit and not the true maximum performance possible. (Same with the Mavic Pro). The Spark still has a powerful transmitter with 1.2mi range which is far out of sight, trust me. And the 1080HD videos are basically identical to the Mavic Pro, unless you’re a fan of 60FPS modes (few are, but I happen to be), or doing panning sideways (bc the Spark has a 2 axis gimbal, lacking the 3rd axis that stabilizes when you rotate sideways). If I showed 10 random people videos from the Spark and the Mavic, I’d be pretty surprised if even 1 person could accurately identify which is which. Bottom line: if you can afford the Mavic Pro and want the 4mi range and all the extra performance, by all means buy it. But if you’re like I was a year ago, only being able to afford the Spark but believing I’d just end up disappointed missing the extra Mavic Pro features - you’re as wrong as I was! The Spark is like 75% of the machine the Mavic Pro is, really. The fact it is such a tiny package and comes in that cool little square black foam case (with slots for 2 spare batteries which I immediately filled haha), actually makes it COOLER than the Mavic in that regard, for sure. You expect the Mavic to do what it does, but nobody would expect what the Spark is all capable of. You can tell DJI was worried the Spark was TOO close to the Mavic actually, because they arbitrarily stripped a few features like away like Waypoint automated mission flights, which the Spark performs just fine with 3rd party apps. I will say, having owned both for 3-4 weeks now (my first 2 drones - besides a $50 MJX FPV drone with a home-grade WiFi connection that basically means you can’t fly further than your backyard), what I notice about the Mavic Pro over the Spark more than anything is the twice as long runtime. (Claimed max: 27 min, 16 min for Mavic/Spark respectively, actual results from my typical flight logs: 22 min, 12 min.) But that double the run time, is a BIG difference. It feels like 4x rather than 2x, because you have so much time to explore and take shots and tinker and fly around, before it’s time to return home. And obviously it’s particularly beneficial given the Mavic Pro’s 4.3mi range vs Spark at 1.2mi. Honestly if I knew the Spark did what it does, or if I had witnessed anyone flying one in person, I would’ve bought one a looooong time ago!! PS: the Spark controller is virtually identical to the Mavic Pro’s, besides the lack of LCD screen (which you won’t see whatsoever anyway if you fly with an iPad mount, as I found out).

Ken, forgive me if this has been discussed before. I pulled the spark out of hibernation and my fly more combo batteries are shot,, I knew they had to be put into storage mode but I procrastinated and time keeps rolling down here I am today.. batteries are so dead I don't think I can get firmware updates or downgrades. The first two lights flash 4 times.. when the cable is plugged into the Drone the fan comes on for half a second then off. Is there a way to literally jumpstart the battery from another type of power source,? The reason why I asked about that is because of Buddy at work read about doing that to a drill battery and he jumped it and then it was able to take a charge. I hope something can be done because I cannot drop the coin for three batteries., thanks for your reply in advance, keep up the videos they're great.

Ken, why such a big difference between the gopro video quality and the drones? Also, is this video output in 4k (i see it as an option on youtube) when the spark video was only 1080? I thought taking a 1080 and outputting as 4k would mess up the clarity.
@KenHeron7 жыл бұрын
I zoomed-in Kelly's handheld GoPro. That might be why it looked a bit grainy. No, outputting 1080 as 4K will look like 1080. Outputting 4K as 1080 will also look like 1080.
