Love the look on the officer's face when you showed your authorization! He DIDN'T like that at ALL! Frowning and wondering what else he might cite you for. Then he's "just checkin'" so he won't have to make a phone call. Haha! Don't we love the immediate look of disdain and a frown as they THINK they are giving us the bad news, and it turns out, they are getting a bit of bad news! I love it! Comedy gold!

Here in Belgium where I live a lot of police officers don't know the rules about flying a drone. I have a Mavic 3 Classic and here in Belgium we fly under the European Regulation. The Mavic 3 Classic has a C1 classification which means I can fly close to buildings and people but not over a crowd (f.e. concert, festival,...). I got a complaint from the DGLV (the regulator for Belgian air traffic) that I had to fly in the Open A2 category (keeping at least 50 meters from people and buildings) but thanks to the C1 classification I can fly in the Open A1 category. They didn't know this and so how can we expect that police officers know the rules if the DGLV doesn't know this. But everything is rectified and I was perfectly ok flying my drone.

Just so you know, that area around the foundry with all the abandoned buildings will soon be the location of a new baseball stadium, park, recreation area, markets and lots of things that attract more tourists than skeletal building remains. At least one of foundry buildings will be refurbished and used in the plans. MLB says the current stadium no longer meets their requirements so since a new one has to be built the city decided to revitalize that area. No word yet if the plans include designated police spying and napping areas.

Shouldn't the cops already be educated on the laws before they try to impose their will on people and tell them they can't do something ??
@boboso7238
@boboso7238 Жыл бұрын
Considering most still can't get anything in the first 10 amendments right during every day interactions, I would say no. Look at the volume of violations regarding filming under the 1st and violations of the 4th demanding ID, etc when they don't have the right circumstances to do it.
@srjwari
@srjwari Жыл бұрын
I hate to side with the police but that's an idealistic point of view that just doesn't meet reality. If you think you have enough police to enforce the laws that did exist enough to make the streets safer then your in dream coco pops land. I mean I would love for every cop to have the law taught to them with once a week refreshers and monthly exams but no one is going to prop up the police as it stands to acomindate for such a strict and common sense idea! 😂
@MikeLockheart
@MikeLockheart Жыл бұрын
@@srjwari I like to be optimistic, and it just seems weird that they would try to tell you to do or not do something if they dont even know what the law says is all.
@srjwari
@srjwari Жыл бұрын
@@MikeLockheart I get that and respect your optimism. But, you're going to be let down in life alot if you're optimism isn't grounded with some level of reality. What your saying to most sounds sensible and that's why I'm with you on it. But it's never, ever.. Going to be reality. So what we have to do is what ken said which is we have to educate and be ambassadors to others who don't have the time or the know how to learn these things. We can't expect the police on the street to have the same level of education as those that specialise in a field such as law never mind air laws etc. We might get a cop that has a drone and lucky to have them but these people work stupid hours with rubbish pay when they get time off let them enjoy it. There's nothing wrong with dreaming the impossible dream but every now and then we got to wake up.

Once I am at home, uploading and processing the photos, I don't want to go out and shoot for fun, for creativity, etc.. I am doing this for such a long time, that camera equals work for me. Great stuff! Such a handy drone. I was waxing nostalgic today, so I flew one of my old Hubsan H501s, then put the Mini 4 pro up and did an orbit around the Hubsan. lucky lucky, pretty cool. I don't put myself in that situation but I bought a "get-r-back" device for flying over water, I don't want to find out if it works but it's something you strap onto your drone and when I gets submerged it releases a float attached to a string, so at least you can get it back from the water, who knows if it would be worth rescuing but only one way to find out lol

Entertaining as always Ken… I am getting here a little late to the party and see everyone commenting on the flying of your drone from a moving vehicle, but I didn’t read any mention of keeping your Mini 4 Pro within your line of sight. Would you mind sharing your take, because that one bothers me even though I’m a very safe Part 107 certified airman. I think some rules were “meant to be bent” at least a bit. Technically, you can not launch/land from private property without permission from the land owner. You also can't launch or land on state owned property without authorization. Waving around your 107 card doesn't not exempt you from the laws. Air space classification is irrelevant. Flying around a festival is almost always gonna get you in trouble without all the proper authorizations. Yes, I'm a professional drone pilot.

@@mikeylikesit1195 I flew 190 times in less than 121 days. I flew every day until the battery was completely used up so there were no storage days. DJI only offers 200 cycles per battery so I assume my experience is normal.

@@SlackerU what charger were you using? I use a 65W laptop charger and it has greatly diminished the flight time, but it sure does charge it fast. I think those things are related. That is odd that it would fall out of the sky without some kind of warning and/or emergency landing prior to that.

Flying thru a city is challenging enough, but doing it thru an unfamiliar city while riding in a carriage is a whole nutha level of skill 🤙🏽

I'm not part 107 certified. I fly recreationally. I flew in Florida on Melbourne Beach, and over the Indian River. I had electronic copies of my TRUST certificate and FAA drone registration, I had a couple of people on the beach inquire about the drone, and like you I landed before having a discussion with the people there, showed them the controller and how it worked. I wasn't in an area where I needed LAANC authorization so didn't have to get that for where I was flying. I may have been in a TFR area if I was there on dates there were launches from Kennedy Space Center, but the dates I was there there wasn't any TFRs in effect. I made sure to check that before even taking the drone out to fly.. A week or so later I was in Fort Worth area, needed LAANC authorization and to unlock two zones with DJI before the drone would even lift off because I was within about 3 miles of Alliance Airport and less than a mile from a private airstrip without a control tower. Once I got it up in the air and flying dome neighborhood kids saw me flying and thought it was cool, didn't have any adults approach me then. Most of the interactions I've had with the public including around here at home and a local park where drone flying is allowed have been positive and I get curious people asking how it works instead of the "you can't fly that here". I did have an issue when I was at a friend's house where when I sent the drone up about 15-20 meters a neighbor peeked his head over the fence asking me to take it down because his wife was in the back yard. I never pointed the drone down over their property and actually for the most part kept the drone facing east toward the mountains, not west toward their property, even if I did point it westward, at the hight I was flying it wouldn't be likely to record anything in their yard since the gimble was never pointed in a downward direction.

Keep flying responsibly and you'll be fine. Send me that neighbor wife footage though! 😜

I know it's not going to be popular here, but it needs to be said. 1. You know you're trespassing and claiming there's no trespassing signs therefore you didn't know is a joke. Someone owns the property whether there's anyone there or not and the officer is absolutely within their authority to say you can't operate from private property. 2. You're right, assuming the airspace is clear you can fly over that building. Plus, the FAA can't say anything about you flying INTO the building, the owners on the other hand, they could probably make a solid case that you trespassed with the drone. 3. Operating from the carriage. That's an obvious violation. You're operating from moving vehicle and obviously not in a sparsely populated area. 4. You aren't maintaining line of site. 5. You're operating over other moving vehicles. 6. You're likely flying over people not involved in the operation. Now, the Mavic Mini 4 is under 249 grams, but from what we can see you don't have any prop-guards on so you can't legally fly under Category 1 rules and even after you put the prop guards on, you'll be over the 249 gram limit. 7. You're right, you had a LAANC authorization and as local police, they don't have authority to force you to land anyway at best, all they could do is ask you to take a breathalyzer test. Problem is, so much of what you've done here is half-right and half-wrong and flaunting this kind of stuff is not being a good ambassador for the industry. Go ahead, flame away.
