I use to have one of your Duolian models....till someone broke into my house and took 3 of my guitars....I so miss that guitar so much. One of these days I want to get one of your smaller models....some day.

Thank you for your comment. My best sure fire tip..."Learn to enjoy pratice". Make it fun and relaxing to avoid frustration. Understand to improve you have to face challenges. The things you cannot do, are the things you need to transcend in order to advance. So, don't expect to get something in just one sitting. Continous coming back to the same exercises is key. Take notice and appreciate your small improvements. Please feel free to write as you work through the lessons. Enjoy.

@ricen4u Thank you for your kind and encouraging words. Using open tunings with all those open sympathetic strings, fingerpicks to play two crisp lines of music at the same time, and a bottleneck slide, resonator guitars seem to shine at their best. I truely love their unique tone and the haunting tension filled aura that they create. Glad to hear you are enjoying my work.

@cloudeleven Thank you for your interest, comment, and question. Yes, they are all tuned to Open G. To better distinquish the difference in the tone between the 5 models, I tried to keep everything the same except use different guitars. Enjoy your practice.

Thanks for your demo. Very nice playing style. Recording sounded fine. Quality of Tri-cone is really great. I ordered one of the Republic tri-cone guitars just because of your wonderful comparisons. The National guitars look stunning but I’m not a professional, so the Republic is the correct price range. Please ignore negative comments, you are doing just fine, thanks very much, John

@ulli61 Thank you for your interest and kind words. Actually the inventor of the resonator guitar, John Dopera, believed his original model the Tricone was the best and the single biscuit cone was inferior. It was his business partner, George Beauchamp who patented the single cone. This lead to their split. John Dopera left and invented the spider bridge cone and formed the Dobro Company. Enjoy.

@johnnydobroboy Good question. First you are really comparing a single cone against a tricone. Single cones tend to be higher ended, sharp like a banjo. The tricone is more balanced between bass and treble. Second, you are comparing a 14 fret to a 12 fret. 12 fret tend to have better tone, but 14 fret makes using a capo better. If you wanted my opinion, the Clarksdale Special overall may be better. The smaller body on the Highway 61 may be better for traveling. Enjoy.

@XDHNoisePollution Thank you for your comment. Ya, it is interesting to hear them compared in this way, and how the subtle differences in tone appeal to different people. The Highway 61 is small and great for traveling. The shorter 3/4 scale and 1 3/4" nut certainly would appeal to any electric guitar player. Similar to the feel of a Les Paul. It is also available with the standard scale and 1 7/8" nut. Enjoy.

@beeyes Thank you for your question. The bridge is a wooden saddle (disk) with a wooden bridge. Frank at Republic guitars will set the height to your specifications. The intonation is set by moving the whole resonator cone forward or back. They function differently than standard guitars because there is no soundboard. Proper set up is essential so there is the correct downward pressure to ring the cone correctly. Please feel free to write if you have any further questions. Enjoy.

@kaptainbastard Thank you for your interest and question. The difference in tones is quite interesting. I tend to like steel single cones. They offer a sharp higher end banjo like tone. For some reason, I play the Resolian the most. I like the full size neck on the smaller parlor body. Regardless, they all seem to offer something unique. So far, the Highway 61 is the most popular with viewers. Enjoy.

@rastablues1 Thank you for your question. I personally prefer steel. It is harder than brass and tends to produce a higher end sharp crisp banjo liike tone. Brass being softer tends to have a warmer sound. Regardless, thet both function well for Blues. It comes down to taste. I would suggest contacting Frank at Republic Guitars for further input. Happy Holidays. Enjoy.

@kd5txo Thank you for your comment and question. Yes, I tried to keep everything I played the same, so it would be better to compare the tone. I personally prefer a 1 7/8" nut. Only the Highway 61 has a 1 3/4" nut / short scale. I find this a little tight, but electric guitarists probably would find it perfect (like a Les Paul). Not sure why exactly, but I play the Parlor the most. It has a full scale too. The smaller body makes it great for sitting on the couch. LOL Enjoy.

Hi Keni I just want to say thanks for all your playing...I'm a lefty so I don't have much choice here. I was wondering if I could just switch the strings around for the Parlors..plus I'd like to put a Lace Humbucker in one and was wondering what do you think. Would it be better if it was wood with the pickup or metal and what medal..steel or brass? I've been playing guitar and bass for a long time and I play with my fingers..So I know they make a Clarksdale for Leftys..that's what Frank said..I just don't know..so if you can give a little help here for us Lefty's. Thanks Keni..I hope you get this...and if anyone has any info..it would be appreciated..thanks all.

+77Blkstrat I would suggest talking to Frank about what models can be simply flipped over and a new bridge and nut cut for lefty. I play mainly acoustically so my knowledge of amplifying is weak. I have the Highlander system in my National Duolian. Again, possibly Frank may have better suggestion. Also try posting these questions in Facebook groups. I prefer the hard tone produced by steel myself. Wood being softer produces a warmer tone. I hope this helps.

@KeniLeeBurgess
@KeniLeeBurgess 8 жыл бұрын
+Scooter Lee I don't own a Republic 14 fret model, but my National Duolian is a 14 fret. Due to the fact the body was simply made smaller to expose the frets, it is debatable that they lack the fullness of the 12 fret model. Although, for changing keys it comes in handy. Open D to E, capo fret two and conveniently still have 12 frets clear of the body.
