Even though your friends excavator was a little small, he still managed to do a pretty good job opening it up and releasing the water.
@Me-qp8vz2 жыл бұрын
The smaller bucket was better for this type of job. It didn't dig oversized craters or pull down as much embankment as a larger bucket would have. It might have taken a little longer but this way there was less damage to the channel.

I've seen excavators remove as much material from the dry side of the dam first, starting at the opposite side and working towards the machine. Then, they break the dam last - it seems to work quite well. Just an observation.

Small excavator is all you need but you really need a thumb jaw fitted as that helps grabbing timbers. That made a good job of clearing the damn. And warmer in Winter!

Looks like the beaver dam is bigger than the little excavator.it does the job,that’s what counts.looks like it’s getting colder so maybe beavers 🦫 will start slacking off on building dams.good video.just carry on.😎😎😎👍👍👍

Maybe a small skid loader type with an excavating arm attachment. Cheaper, lighter and maybe more accessible. Maybe start a fee service to cover costs from your hobby. But be your own boss ( or let your wife tell you ) Don't forget though Baby needs new shoes. (Diapers, clothes, toys, extra love, food and etc). 😄 Like all the time it seems. Keep up the good Papa work, do whatever your wife wants, and love the child. A true happy family 👪

What would be interesting is if there was a tool made that could be driven up to the dam like a snow plough that grinds the logs to pulp and takes the entire dam out in one pass. With the entire dam removed in one pass, the beavers would have to take much longer to replace the dam than cutting a new channel where they can use the existing material to block the dam quickly.
@Kenislovas2 жыл бұрын
It would be, yes.
@lamwen032 жыл бұрын

I'm so grateful this got removed and then excavator or a mini estimator. Every time you going to rip this one out I've been very very worried about you. It's a very dangerous sketchy situation. Water here is very Swift and the dam is so high I've seen you slip plenty of times and been worried that you would fall and there would be nobody there to help you. So thank goodness may God answers prayers.

This video had me confused. I don't understand why he stayed so far away from the dam. He could barely reach it and so pretty much ended up digging a new channel around the dam. If he had moved in closer he could have taken out the middle of the dam. But hey, it isn't my ditch or equipment so what do I know.

Why remove the dam. The surrounding land does not look to be developed. The beavers will rebuild it. In a lot of areas the dams are modified with several small sluices which control the level of the water behind the dam without triggering the beavers natural rebuilding efforts
