LYRICS（both Original Japanese and English Translation ) I saw other guys already post Japanese Lyrics and translation separately but people want to know both the same time so I put together here. * Note : On the surface, the lyrics are about a man and cat eating curry rice, a Japanese soul food, but it is actually an anti-war song. When this song was written, it was just after the hippie and flower movement of the late 1960s. Japanese Folk and Rock music scene was heavily influenced by that even in 1970's. [English Translation] You, the cat, me. We all like curry and rice. You cut potatoes and carrots. You cut onions with tears in your eyes. You're so silly... so silly... you even cut your own hands... Hi, @euphoricmelancholy That translation was regular (released) one, but here in this TV studio live, Endo paraphrased the news part lyrics as below: "Then the news spoke about Peace Accords in Vietnam at last! Though I don't think it's completely OK, but anyway good for you people of Vietnam!" This song was out in 1971 and this broadcasting was in 1973 according to this video's description, that's why. That was my junior high school days. I liked this song very much. I also personally recommend another song by him below. cant understand every word but he talks about curry rice: you, the cat, me and everyone loves curry rice. I cut the potatoes and veggies, my tears fall down as I cut the onion. oh stupid me, i accidentally cut my hand. i sit down and play the guitar, the cats chase each other and fight, i watch tv. i accidentally cut my stomach (?) oh im sure it must hurt. oh curry its so good, i woder if i can make it quickly, i like it sweet, i like it spicy, curry rice. something along these lines, sorry my japanese isnt very good

This is my translation (I am a Japanese). You, cat and me, everyone likes curry and rice, right? Tom-tom, you cut the potato, carrot as well as onion with tears in your eyes. Hey goofy, you bungled as to cut yourself in the finger, Meanwhile I am playing the guitar while sitting, huh, curry rice. Now the cat is clinging around you saying 'give me the curry immediately, mew--mew--mew--' Hum, that is smelling so nice, and I am lying (on Tatami) watching the TV. Then the news announced that some guy has done 'hara-kiri' (suicide by his own blade into the abdomen) Imagine how painful it was. Anyway you and cat like a little bit sweeter curry but I like very very hot and spicy one Hum, hum curry and rice Hum, hum I can't wait it cooked Hum, hum smells nice Hum, hum curry and rice. Note: I'm not sure about the relation, but in Japan in 1970, a famous novel writer Yukio Mishima killed himself with harakiri at Ichigaya site of Japan's Self Defense Army (Tokyo). It was a nation wide sensation.

@@jessyoung9320 "i accidentally cut my stomach (?)" is not correct. In fact, it is the most important part of this song. It is sung as "Someone cut his stomach." It implies the Yukio Mishima's ritual suicide, which was done in 1970. You can search Yukio Mishima in Wikipedia for more detail. The guy in this song has watched the news of the incident on TV after he made the curry rice. The contrast between the curry rice and the shocking bloody death, its absurdity is the key of this song. However, the lyric was the original one and he totally replaced that part in this version. He was singing about the peace agreement of Vietnam war instead of the Mishima's suicide.

@opkbgxwawawabdg , リアルで体験してないと時代独特の空気感やこの種の音楽を理解するのは難しいかも。一見なんでもない4畳半フォークソングですが、歌詞の裏には反戦のメッセージが込められています。 数フレーズだけベトナム戦争について触れてますがそれこそがこの歌の核となる部分です。普通の歌詞の中に1箇所だけ本当に伝えたいメッセージや言葉を差し込む事で聞き手により強い印象を残す手法をこの頃のフォークシンガーはよく使っていました。 1960年代の反戦ラブ＆ピースのヒッピーフラワームーブメントは海外では数年で終息しましたが、日本のフォーク・ロックシーンは1970年代もそのまま継続しており、反骨精神を持ち政府に反抗する事が若者の間でカッコいいとされていた風潮があった。この歌にもその影響がみられます。参考になれば幸いです🙂

@user-uf3bb2dk4k ご指摘ありがとうございます。確かにそう取れますね！　このベトナムの歌詞はアドリブだった記憶があります。差し込めるフレーズに限りがあるのでそれでちょっとそっけない感じになったかもですね。 あとあの頃のフォークシンガーって一癖も二癖もあり、偉大なアーティストである事は間違いないんですが、ひねくれてる人(裏を返せば知的)が多かった。歌詞もひねって書いてる事多いので裏側の意味はなんだろうなって考えながら聴いてました。なんかきちんとした返事になってなくてすみません🙇
